Seems like a money grab.

A quiet, hard working, professional player who's seemed very happy and has actively encouraged others to stay. Seems more like his agent is pissed that matto is earning less than a bunch of rejects despite being twice the player.

Extend his contract, increase his salary for the 2021 season to 500k, and make him club captain. That's what we need to do over the next couple of months.

Just because it's on the NRL website doesn't mean it's true - they're no different to any other website or newspaper

@happy_tiger Packer $675k and McQueen $300k. Total say $975k. Getting $400-450k back would mean us paying 55-60% of their freight. I don't think even the Tigers would pay that much....but could be wrong.

If Packer and McQueen can't contribute why keep them. Getting $400-$450K would be a bonus and 100% better then keeping these two. Economics sometimes works in wondrous ways.

With the clubs going into recess it will get much worse. Poor Lurker, Moley and Weidler have to make up a lot of stories to earn their pay.

Agreed. IMO it would be smart of the club to extend his deal by 2-3 years, keep his pay the same for 2020, then make his pay go up for 2021 onwards.

I would guess he is an option to start at hooker and to provide depth in the halves. He seemed OK in the game I saw him play for the Storm this year, good in defence.

So, very likely the Matto story is on the money. One or two posters on Tigers facebook sites said this was coming (named Matto specifically) a few days back also.

I think Marshall will be the starting 5/8 and they will move Reynolds on if possible, he just costs too much. Walters to start at Hooker and he can cover for Brooks/Marshall/Liddle when Liddle gets back.

Walters does not look like the next superstar, but he solves a few problems cheaply and you never know how players will develop until the are tried.
