Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I disagree, but it clearly happened over the board BS. I do want to move forward though, it's the off season and as long as we hit hard from February onwards it won't matter.

Thinking about it, it isn't.

Why?
We work for say 40-60 years. Some retire at 67, others are working in their 80's.
A footy player has done their best football work by 35, They may not get a contract after 30.

If you signed for any team with the expectation that you will be working with X coach and X team for 3 years... That matters. That's almost 1/3rd of your NRL football working life. You want to know who the coach is and be sure they are a good coach.

Huge difference between working for 3 years, building fitness to get a 600k contract and licking stamps at the bottom of the ladder for 150k. Huge difference.
For starters he is not a good coach and it’s more likely that he allows certain players to rule the roost and that’s why they want him as the boss.
They absolutely were talking like this before the board drama. If we are not careful we will have another boys club operating…

If they keep improving who cares if it's a boys club, bet you'd change your thoughts then.

I am going to disagree here.

Look every coach can coach something. The coach that will fall away this season is IMHO Anthony Siebold.

Ricky in 2009 got a Cronulla side that lost a bunch of players post finals, then had to deal with Ben Ross on 400k and a spinal injury. He stuffed the Eels, sure.

Whatever you say about Ricky, he can coach defensive structures. He got Canberra flowing, but was useless for the Eels. I actually reckon Ricky would go good here if he had 3 stable years. At least we would have our defensive structures worked out.

I assume you mean 2008 where the Sharks finished 3rd. The following year they finished 15th. Which highlights the point im making. Stuart cant get a team to be consistently competitive. Its one really good year followed by 3 or 4 crap years. He has had the Canberra club and public fooled for years by his crocodile tears and fake emotion.

A bit harsh i think mate ,I feel Benji is improving as a coach as i think our team will improve, let’s mark him on this year’s results

I think that would have happened to some level irrespective of the board stuff.
The players have been holding the club to ransom to various degrees over Benji for a while now, culminating in stories that a heap would walk if he was sacked….its outrageous when you think about it.
There is evidence that the tigers lose good coaches.

There's no evidence to suggest that any players have held the club to ransom. They have contracts they need to adhere to, you can't just walk.

It's also more than fair that players who bought into the coaches vision wanted him to stay there. There are players who signed just to play under him - can't blame them for that?

Whilst players get paid to play footy, they also play to win. It's naive to think that these guys just want power. They want to win. They want success. And for whatever reason - they believe that can happen with Benji.

Simply what would you prefer a team that likes their coach and wants to play for him or they just tolerate him.

Apart from Galvin, the contrarian who was no great loss, I think Doueihi will have a better season in the halves this season anyway.

I think there's very little chance that more than one non fta platform gets the rights. The last thing the nrl wants to do is weaken its brand by diluting the access over half a dozen networks, live has happened for some American sports. The nrl cannot compete like that, Aussies won't sign up to a platform for one match a week.
It's all or nothing.
That’s not true. PVL has come out and all but said he will diversify the product and look to maximise profit . You’re not going to alienate the fanbase if it’s simulcast across a couple of platforms . For me , I can see Paramount (who owns 10) going in hard for the Thursday game and playing it across both paramount , which can also be accessed via Prime if you have the subscription , and channel 10. It means they can drive content after the game as well with a post match rap like the Matth John’s show .. and get some actual eye balls on the channel . I can’t see them bidding for the whole rights , they don’t have the money .
Really it will come down to 9 IMHO. If they want most of the games they can go in hard knowing those who won’t watch FTA , like myself , will go to STAN , plus it means they will get a huge uptick in their subscriber base .
The issue will really be how DZN views Aus sport and Foxtel . Or do they look to close up the cable tv product and bring it all under an app themselves . Kayo is exorbitant . That can’t be sustainable as a consumer product . It’s gone up again .

Bellamy has managed to strike a balance . He’s pretty much the only one . The Bennett style of man management combined with pure hardass drive to perfection training regimes .
There’s a huge difference between being yelled at whilst you’re getting hammered and yelling whilst you’re getting hammered . The first is demoralising , the second is about communication and maintaining intensity .
I think even Benji was too soft year one , and seemed to drive much higher standards year 2 and hopefully that’s continued in year 3 .
Most of the old school yeller types are now out to pasture . Outside of Madge and obviously Bellamy (who like I said through witch craft has managed to convey the message I yell at you because I care lol) .
You want a leader who you’ll run through a brick wall for . I think that idea is transcendent across all fields of work . You want a guy who you know gives a shit about you , has your back , wants to be the best both as a team and individually . If Benji is one of those guys , and really that remains to be seen , then he is literally a one in a million leader and that type of dude should always be trusted with the keys to the joint .

No.
Even if HB dont utter a peep all year theres still the issue of their lack of sufficient funding* we require to compete with the top teams

Many claim the players dont even know the board members, probably true....but it* affects them
Yea, so Donkeys, Chooks and Storm seem to have a never ending chequebook.

But Canberra and the Sharks don't. Not saying those clubs don't set up TPA's, I am saying both of those clubs would have more difficulty and fewer opportunities then us.

Yes, fair point TPA and getting some funding matters. Canberra and Sharks were playing finals footy without (or at least similar to us) this funding.

The board is not the cake, at best it's the icing. Our club needs to be about football and get our onfield performance right.

I think there will be tougher love from Benji now to strike the right balance.

From a training intensity he actually told Terrell in his vlog, prepared to be flogged over the summer.
