Like I said too often we are still in our 20 or 30m line giving the opp a huge field position advantage every single set .

As the great man Jack Gibson said many moons ago, you only need to kick it as far as you can chase. This, along with his general kicking philosophies still ring true today. The big differnece from when Jack was coaching is that the good kickers now have greater height (hang time) and greater control than the superstars of the 70s an 80s.

Jock, and AD for that matter, would be wise to go back to improve their games. If I recall correctly it was Peter Sterling that was going through a slump in his kicking game when Gibson cryptically told him to "kick it to the seagulls." then walked away leaving Sterling to figure out the lesson: at the SCG seagulls only congregated on empty spaces of the field.

If you look at the core logic of Gibson's kicking and chasing philosophy it was based on three main rules:
  • The Chase Dictates The Distance: A long kick is completely useless if your defenders can't get downfield fast enough to pressure the catcher. You only kick the ball as far as your team's line can realistically sprint to pin the opposition down and this is where hang time (height) is more important than distance.
  • Find the Open Space: Kicking directly to an opposing fullback or winger allows them to catch it cleanly and build up momentum for the kick return.
  • Force Mistakes: Kicking into the "seagulls" where the bounce forces the opposition to turn around, run backward, and gather the ball under pressure from a well-timed defensive chase.
It is a simple game and if we stuck to a simple kicking philosophy we would do much better than trying belt the ball out of sight with no control or kick too long for the chase. Jock and Latu need to be one on one with a kicking coach that understand old Jack's philosophy. It is not until you understand the basics that the Cleary and Johns skills need to be practiced.

I'm not making this shit up .....Bulas not Top 10 , our wingers are bottom 4 , Taylan May is Top half , Toa, Makasini are bottom 8 centres of the 34 across the board , Luai was bottom 6 and that's being extremely nice , Doueihi based on all form is bottom half of all 7s , Twal is around the middle , KPP and Samuela is Top half of the 34 second rowers in the comp ,Api is Top 6 as far as hookers go , Fonua Pole probably around the middle and Terrell May in the top half

How do you rate them , Brailey I don't think played NRL and Averillo played maybe 5 games at most

I want to be positive Ink .....I really do ....but when you look at the facts and break it down man on man ....it ain't pretty

Then let's start on the coaching staff ....where does Benji rate as a head coach ....up head to head against the other 16 coaches ......bottom 4

Assistant coaches .... this is very arguable I know , but our best assistant left in my opinion We are definitely bottom 4

Our leagues club , HBG , our juniors and their development

I basically stopped posting on here because I hated being so negative , but the cons outweigh the pros so significantly you just can't ignore it if you are going to be fair and honest with yourself

Yeah what you say is true and agree wtih most of it however we do have some hope.

We have have a number of players and coaches who have a very good opportunity to improve greatly, Bula, Maka, Halves, Fainus, Pole, KPP, Taylan May and others can hopefully go to the next level, then we will have a good chance of making the eight.

Also, surely Benji & the support staff which have had a massive learning curve, can only be better for the run.

Anyway just trying to see some positives

Have we ever actually had a halves coach or goal kicking coach of the sort

I go to all home and many away games and the GA Membership to sit behind the goal posts is poor given you guaranteed money to the club, not saying it needs to be half way but at least some from the side like from the 10m to try line could be set aside

I spent more on Bronze this last season just so I could be on the side to watch the games.

Agreed the Barnes stand view is poor at LO but the atmosphere is great.

It all behind the posts was GA once, they got greedy and I really find the whole game day experience pretty poor for what we pay nowadys

LO and CSS both have a lot of faults and I doubt $40m or $50m will improve much for the fans

Not that I recall and most probably not given the sum provided by HBG to get us off the bottom of the ladder. Yes it was great to see the Borncos tipping in ten times the amount and finishing down with us, but I bet they wont be there for 15 years. You don't have to be a genius to figure out that you need to invest in the the joint to win a premiership.

If I had to guess the powerbrokers at the Broncos would have no regrets about the amount of investment after their 2025 premiership win

Agree. In many ways 27 should / must / will see improvements in many of the existing squad. In fact, In some ways, either the potential we have paid and hoped for in the last couple of seasons has to pay off in 27 or their future here has to be questioned- both players and coaching & support staff. Hopefully, new additions will add experience to the depth. Can't do anything about the management structure but surely the players and coaching will improve- atleast i hope so. Let's see how we are situated halfway through 27. Go WT.😀

Firstly his the rating of 10th for kicking meters is incorrect as this stat according to your graph was for kicks per game. He had 180 kicks over 18 games which represents 10 per game, not how effective they were.
His defence of 295 takles made, would only represent about 15 per game (this only relates to takles he was involved in, not one on one tackles). Jock's problem is his decision making within the defencive structure, often he is in no-mans land and doen't get involved so these are not counted as missed takles.

@KevB and @bptiger 0 Whilst I understand your points, what other option did we have?

If Latu plays in the halves next year we are screwed. Across his 35 games he has not kicked once.
