Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So if Paul Crawley is on the money and we don’t sign AD, understanding that we are most likely to start with Corey at the back for 2020, does anybody know of a quality fullback that is either in reserves or whose contract is due? And who would you buy?

I know of Sean Meaney and Bubba Kennedy

Fullbacks or players that can at a stretch play full back that are off contract at the end of this year:

Boyd, Kahu, Milford, Wighton, Edwards and Johnston are the only tried NRL players available.

Apart from Boyd, who is too old, no matter what you think of him - the others are very ordinary Full Backs.

Now, tell me Adam Doueihi is not worth the money or not good enough or that we are also happy to have Thommo or Mbye as the FB for 2021.

Cause I AM NOT!!!!!

Sign AD and be done with it for God's sake.

Here's one from league unlimited souths forum... take it with a grain of salt...

Titans playing hardball as you know. They want Murray AND Tom. Gags and Johnston staying. The only one leaving is Douhie to perhaps Tigers old news I know but souths will release for Packer AND Mcqueen.

Now that would be a deal worthy of running up the pole to see if it flies in the wind?

Has to be a gee up - Packer and McQueen are on approx 1mill a year - Douehi is on 500k - so Souths would be out of pocket a further 500k this year. And we think our recruitment dept is bad.

I think the first step in the process would be convincing the players it’s a good idea. Then after all the pieces of the jigsaw fall into place , and only then, the books can be balanced to reflect a fair deal where everybody wins.

I know when McQueen left Souths he was the most popular man at the club and the players to a man were disappointed with his punting. I think he's one of those guys other players like being around.

They would like him around nowadays especially because they know he's no threat to take their spot in 1st grade.

With all our high priced valuable stars playing cc, you would think a top 8 spot guaranteed?

Nick Cotric

Not a crazy idea. I heard somewhere recently that B. Simonsson is training at fullback & they've got CNZ whose the incumbent -
I'd be looking at JAC and Cotric right now.
Got good forwards, good edges, powerful outside backs, we just need a speedster

Wests have moved their focus onto BJ Leilua and Adam Doueihi and gaining scrutiny for not looking to be more flexible during negotiations.

When asked about spending on the open market, Maguire was adamant the Tigers will stand strong.

Good.

The club has copped a hiding over signing players for overs, and now they're copping the toe again for not wanting to pay overs.

No more wage thieves.

I think this is why Madge is being so adamant with his negotiations...he definitely is well informed of previous purchases and value for money received..
**by that I mean we have had players who play well one week and don't the next** and this is where our blowout scores against us happen which affects the for and against..in my opinion he is putting a squad together that will deliver week to week, not only giving consistency but stability to the team each week..
Im happy to wait and see what Madge produces team wise by kickoff 2020...

BJ?

we don’t want to let souths off the hook for backending his contract and then moving him on, he wants 4 years and probably at an increase on his 600k he is reported to be on in 2021.

When I read those DT articles posted on the forum, all I hear is a Souths mouthpiece. Douiehi is great, Tigers shouldn't play hardball too much lest Doueihi go elsewhere, Souths are not under cap pressure.

In fact Souths are denying so often that they need to move Douiehi on... the lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Douiehi is not a game breaker, he is a development opportunity, and Souths have him on big money. Tigers should not feel any pressure at all to take that pressure on ourselves; let Souths sweat.

Compare this to BJ, Raiders look very willing and, dare I say, transparent to move him on, if they are indeed offering up more than half his last year salary in a bit to get the move done within a week of the player meeting.

I agree - my comments were more about my take on the situation. My personal opinion is that JL is a steal if the figures are correct and Canberra are putting up more than half his salary for this year. I'd take Douehi on a 2 year deal if Souths offered at least 100k on his 2021 contract plus a 1 year option for 2022 in the clubs favour for 500k. If Souths or Douehi don't want to come to the party then walk away. Clubs have to be held accountable for bad roster management. I'm really hoping they can't offload anyone this year. They would have to have a fire sale for 2021 or poor LM may have to take another paycut.

Instead - on November 1st 2020 offer Tedesco $1.4M per season for 4 years, 2022 onwards, then pressure Roosters to release him early.

He's just turned 27, that would be close to his last deal at the age of 29, he'll want to make it a big one, and by then Roosters will probably be bored with him, they way they often get with their top players. Bring Tedesco home, Benji-style.

And before you say "it cannot be done" - RTS.

Kennedy is a hard runner....dont know if he has a passing game tho

I smell a rat with Crawley trying to apply pressure on Tigers admin to get a deal done. 4yrs is too long and Souths obviously suspects it has an expensive contract. We are in a position of power here for a change....we should hold our position and drive a hard bargain. If they want, they can take one of our (packer) poor contracts on. Let's face it....AD is no game changer (he might help us sneak into the 8) and only a moderate improvement on what we have already.

JL sounds cheap this year but could become very expensive, very quickly, especially if his injuries are longer term. Mcqueen, Packer, Mats and Reynolds very similar buys...older players coming off injury interrupted years at top $$$. If he wants the big $$$ tie it into incentives such as playing a certain amount of NRL games.

I could take or leave both as they don't solve our number 1 problem (lack of pace).....there will be plenty of opportunities to get similar talent before 30 June if we stay patient.

Don't get me wrong they would help but are risky investments at the mooted $$$$

Madge looks to be breaking a cycle of over paying for talent due to the poor reputation of the club.Building a squad with the right cap allocations is more important than
Losing or signing any one player. If Madge gets it right when star players come off contract they will be adding to a finals team not taking on all the pressure to get us there.

We are dealing with the snowflake generation they don’t want challenge they want a career which is paid well and playing on a winning team. The CAP is unfairly distorted with rep payments which are at risk playing for a club perennially underachieving.

Players have left and whatever way it’s spun they are a strong group. The list is long Tedesco, Woods, Moses, Fifita, Teo, Matterson, Taupau, Marsters, JAC, Koribete, Nathan Brown. Look at the quality of replacements vs who we lose and it’s some bad reading. The issue is this is a 10 year trend.

I know that this is quite soon

But if/when we make finals this year

And go preety well

Do we look to extend madge....

I love him as a coach and as a person

I especially enjoyed his cheekam reactions and that 1 raiders press conference
