On the topic of our young forward pack. Does anyone know if Christian Welsh is being locked at as a possible replacement for Packer or ET?

Personally I think he would be a smart acquisition and seems to of recovered well from his knee injury.

And he's a real goer too.
Like his attitude.

I’m pretty sure we looked at him prior to his injury and him taking up his option at the storm.

He’d be off contract end of this year?

The thing is I wasn’t even sure we were in the race at all as the only confirmed contract offer was Parramatta.

Well obviously Parramatta wouldn’t be able to sign him now as they have since purchased 2 other senior props so you would think if his interested in leaving Melbourne we’d be a destination. There probably would be interest from the Bunnies, Broncos, Titans as well though I’d say as he would complement their packs also.

Simpkin for one of their young props could be good too they’re probably better than our old plodders

Why do you want another middle ? We’ve got like 10 in the 30 . Packer , Twal, Blore,McIntyre , Eisenhuth, Clarke , Taylor , Mikalele , Musgrove , Seyfarth. We should be able to cop a few injuries for a few weeks. We really lack outside back depth.

Good player.

Frank Molo from the Cowboys is a very under rated prop he’s tough as nails. Fits Madgeball better.

Corey Harawira Naera is another that would make a big impact for us on an edge. If let back in.

Jack De Belin if innocent would also be a strong player to add to the team.

Molo plays well, CHN and JDB are different roles.
My thoughts with welsh was that he really could be that elder statesmen for us, that just hits it up makes the hard meters and does the clean up work. Kick pressure etc, all those things he does for the storm. And he would be a starter in our side each week. Molo in my opinion would be offering a similar impact to JA or TM which we kind of don’t need more of however if Packer was to finish up a year early Molo would be a good replacement for him. Welsh would replace Clark in my reasoning.

Eisenhuth, Clarke, Seyfarth, Taylor are not first graders for serious teams and all 4 may be let go. Packer is done. When you look at the roster for next year we have Aloai, Twal, Mikalele, Musgrove as the only real starter potential players. Blore and Stefano could be very good. We need another strong middle forward for sure if not 2-3.

I’d take him but Twal is developing into that works horse for us.

Possibly,

Do you like Twal at Lock or would he be a prop again in your team if we were successful in signing an more ball playing prop/lock I.e Arrow?

Although the current starting pack may all be “keepers” and the likes of Packer, ET, Huth, Seyfarth, McQueen, Clark, may all be let go, our guys are all still very inexperienced and none are dominant leaders. None have diverse skills or ball playing ability, not even decent offloads. As much as i like them, realistically they are not at the level of some of the quality middles and edge players in the top sides. Our pack ate pretty one dimensional which makes the easy to read and puts more pressure on the few who can make something happen.
We need a couple of experienced forwards to lead our willing youngsters.

No he was talking about a swap for this year dude .
Also , what self respecting first grader is gonna sit 8-10 in a pecking order . At that level you have to have guys who can do a job for a few weeks . Guys like eisenhuth and Taylor. It’s unrealistic to talk about real quality first graders that low On the list .
Next year we have , Mikalele , Uto Blore , Twal , Musgrove . Aloai . Packer
So yea we need another 4 -5 for depth , by my count. McIntyre could be one , and it doesn’t look like seyfarth is going anywhere . Also I’m pretty sure we have a development forward who moves into the 30 next year.
I understand you might not like the quality , but you can’t keep allocating top 30 spots to 3-5 positions of a 17. If you have 12 middles ,14 backs (2 whole backlines) , 3 hookers/utility , that’s already up to 29 players. And the backrower haven’t been counted yet.
The maths doesn’t add up to me . I’m not debating whether we need more talent by the way . The

The Broncos wanting Simpkin on a loan deal story seems like something old mate made up to me. There are 9s out of work sitting at home in QLD they could tap to do a job that wouldn't require them bringing a completely unproven 19 year old up from Sydney for some reason. Sounds like some dumb fantasy to me. Kurt Baptiste (Easts), Kierran Moseley (Norths), Pat Politoni (Burleigh) and Manaia Cherrington (Souths Logan) are doing nothing right now here in SE QLD and any of them could be added with a single phone call and probably do a better job than Simpkin for far less trouble.

Simpkin isn't going anywhere.

From the mouth of someone from the Broncos who also coached Simpkin at State level, has heard nothing of the rumour. He does believe that Simpkins is a better prospect than Grant especially in the kicking game. Also Molo has had minor talks with Cows & Titans. The demons he has battled are huge & are something he is going to battle for the rest of his life, personally I don’t think he would be able to handle living in Sydney.

Ive said it before and will again. If Cam Smith plays another year, there is no reason Grants loan couldn't be extended another season. I know Simpkin is unproven at this stage, but when we signed him, there was a lot of noise about the potential and how good he could be. Personally i'd like to find out.

Agreed. We need fast outside backs.

Because besides our starters the rest are rubbish really. As soon as there’s injuries our bench is super weak
