On the topic of our young forward pack. Does anyone know if Christian Welsh is being locked at as a possible replacement for Packer or ET?

Personally I think he would be a smart acquisition and seems to of recovered well from his knee injury.

Good player.

Frank Molo from the Cowboys is a very under rated prop he’s tough as nails. Fits Madgeball better.

Corey Harawira Naera is another that would make a big impact for us on an edge. If let back in.

Jack De Belin if innocent would also be a strong player to add to the team.

Molo plays well, CHN and JDB are different roles.
My thoughts with welsh was that he really could be that elder statesmen for us, that just hits it up makes the hard meters and does the clean up work. Kick pressure etc, all those things he does for the storm. And he would be a starter in our side each week. Molo in my opinion would be offering a similar impact to JA or TM which we kind of don’t need more of however if Packer was to finish up a year early Molo would be a good replacement for him. Welsh would replace Clark in my reasoning.

I’d take him but Twal is developing into that works horse for us.

Possibly,

Do you like Twal at Lock or would he be a prop again in your team if we were successful in signing an more ball playing prop/lock I.e Arrow?

Wouldn't even mention that mongrels name.

Said he would rather go to Syria than play for us.

A few of our players are better than him anyway - he isn't as good as he thinks he is. Will fit in well at Souffs.

Arrow is one of the most overrated players going around.

He has not been missed by the Broncos. He wasn't even in Bennett's starting team if I recall.

I think Souths have made a big error signing him, especially for the type of money that's been thrown around.

I like him at lock allows more venom in attack and defence for our props as he makes a mountain of tackles .

I think we have opened a can of worms with this loan. Im wrapt to have Grant but then you have someone like Simpkins (or any young player) rotting on the training paddock, no real chance of playing firsts, no reggies to play in. Brisbane come knocking for a "loan", Tigers say know whilst Grant stars week in week out....Simpkins thinks..."hang on...its ok for him.."

Simpkin is only 18 though isn't he?

No idea, Im just floating the concept...you know,, the vibe.

The irony when we’re encouraging our club to try and keep Grant.

Some of you just don't get it. No one's trying to convince the guy to stay and screw the storm over. All people are saying is to impress the guy should Cameron go around again. He has a "legal clause" in his contract thats states he can leave and go anywhere should smith play on and do you honestly think it's fair for him to held back in reserve grade again for another year.

Where does it state that he has a 'legal clause'? I haven't seen that confirmed by him, the Storm, or us. Also, IF there was a clause in his old contract, is it in his new one too?

Grant is a fantastic player and we got the better part of the deal. We got one of the best young players in the game and Storm got someone who can't get a run even when they have a number of players out. We should be grateful for getting him for a year.

It seems like quite common knowledge that he has an out clause and if I'm wrong I'll retract my statement. It would be a terrible business decision if Smith played on and we didnt make an attempt to at least make an offer. We definitely have got the better end of the deal too. I don't want to break any rules by the way, just operate within the legal terms of a contract.

I think it's one of those things that have floated around everywhere but I don't think it's been confirmed by anyone. I could be wrong.

True, hard to know what is actually is rumour or not and I'm not meaning to have a go at anyone. If theres no clause then it's end of story, if there is, then play ball.

Thank you for answering the actual question.

Too many people with agendas on here make it so difficult to continue the thread in the right direction.
I didn’t mention Arrow specifically. I said an type of lock like Arrow. There wasn’t any mention in wanting to sign Arrow more so he was a player I was identifying as a different player to Twal. How bout I make it easier and ask if we were to sign a Jake Trobvioevic type lock would you move Twal back to lock.
Gese some of you guys need to calm your farm, stop making everything so personal. Football is a business nothing is personal.

If I were to sign a Jake T type lock I would play him at lock. Imho Jake T is the best lock in the comp at the moment.

i fear these loan deals, Grant could easily be pursuaded to not go to melbourne next year chuck a hissy fit andnwhat is melbourne really going to do, make him leave and go back ?
Simpkin could do the same thing he goes to brisbane they get in his ear and in 2 years he signs with them.
We could potentially have the two QLD SOO players for the next 10 years on our books and one starting andnone off the bench.
If Liddle is fit loan him out maybe

I don't think that Harry is the type of person to "chuck a hissy fit", that category belongs to the Moses and Matterson's of this word.

Anyone heard of this dude called Mahe Fonua?

seems to be quite a good prospect
does have the unfortunate habbit of Rushing out of the line with 2 minutes to go against the storm, to miss a tackle and cost us a game tho

but its worth it for the Mullet

thoughts?

I do miss having a mullet in the team. So many other teams have one why don’t we? Can we convince someone in the team to grow one, who would look funniest. Maybe brooksy

What about signing a past great to help develop our young players even further

Slimers got Johns....

why dont we go for Laurie Daley

We did remember, but the NRL wouldn’t sanction the deal using the lame reason of Daley’s ties with a different betting agency.

A lot of people have way too much faith in Liddle for a guy that's not shown an ability to stay healthy and really anything more than being a replacement level hooker. I don't think we can count on him going forward at all.

Simpkin might be a great prospect but Grant in just 5 games is already looking like one of the league's best hookers. Unethical sure, but we should be doing all we can to try and convince him to stay on past this season regardless of what happens in Melbourne with Smith.

I feel uncomfortable with that as it has the stigma of a Ryan Matterson move. We don't need to join those involved in that in the sewer.

Four NRL clubs are circling reigning John Eales medallist Marika Koroibete in anticipation Rugby Australia will not be able to guarantee his $600,000 contract next year.

However, RA is already working on a counterpunch to retain their best Wallabies stars by emulating Cricket Australia’s central contracting system with an elite pool of their top 30 players taking the bulk of money available and the mid-tier forced to take huge wage cuts.

Koroibete, a former NRL star, won Australia’s player of the year in 2019 after starring during their World Cup campaign.

He is signed until the end of 2021, however like other Wallabies on long term deals, is exploring his options given RA have yet to secure a broadcast deal for next year and therefore doesn’t know how much cash will be at their disposal.

Koroibete’s former league clubs Melbourne Storm and Wests Tigers, as well as St George Illawarra Dragons and the Bulldogs, are in now play for the powerful winger.

Ironically, the Storm is set to lose winger Suliasi Vunivalu to rugby after this season.

Vunivalu has signed a two-year deal with RA and Queensland Reds to begin in 2021, but again due to the uncertainty surrounding rugby’s finances, is keeping his options open and could stay in Melbourne or defect to the Dragons.

Melbourne has also agreed to release State of Origin centre Josh Addo-Carr so he can be closer to family in Sydney – the Dragons and Bulldogs are keen to sign the speedster.

Those two clubs are also keen on Koroibete at the right price.

However, none of the NRL sides will be able to meet Koroibete’s rugby salary.

If RA can guarantee his full salary, Koroibete won’t be released and will remain in the XV man code

Koroibete’s manager Sam Ayoub did not return calls.

RA is giving serious consideration to a plan to cull expenses from their mid-tier players.

That would involve pooling the bulk of money to secure their top 30 stars, as CA does each year with its top 20 male players annually.

At present, RA has a pool of 40 players given national top-ups over and above their Super Rugby deals.

RA has 192 professional players, so many of the remaining athletes would be forced to accept pay cuts of more than half what they earn now.

Many believe the mid-tier of Australian rugby players is paid too much, but this is sure to irk players union RUPA.

RA would also focus significant funds into a lower tier, to keep their most talented Junior Wallabies and emerging schoolboys.

Given the worrying economic situation rugby is in, there will inevitably be severe player wage cuts, but RA is determined to hold onto their biggest names in order to sell whatever domestic competition they’ll offer to the broadcast market from 2021.

A trans-Tasman tournament with New Zealand is RA’s preference, and part of the proposed contracting plan would be to allow Australian players to play for Kiwi teams and vice-versa under an open market system.

That would give the unions more freedom to structure deals in the best interests of their national teams without losing stars to foreign raiders from Europe and Japan.

Yep- we needed someone with kahunas to take NRL HQ to court citing inconsistency using some of the known cases of betting paid former players advising other clubs.
