Not me. If the club sinks that low I could never follow Rugby League again. IMO an absolute low life of a human being for a number of reasons not the least the behaviour towards McKinnon.

He is though ! If Alex twists in another direction , or doesn’t brace for impact the paralysis never happens . I’m not saying that the storm players don’t have a huge role to play , but how many tackles like that , don’t have that final twisting motion . It’s play on without that.
When you watch it , it doesn’t even look bad from afar, it’s not until you actually watch the slow motion that you see what’s happened .
Like I said , if he wasn’t paralysed , not a single person ever would remember that tackle .
To hold someone to thier initial reaction to a pretty innocuous looking penalty , because the outcome of that is tragic , is not really fair man.

People will try and tell you he argued with the ref while McKinnon was on the ground. He actually stood back for the whole 10 or so minutes it took to get Alex off the field. Then he approached the ref. And he raised the fact there were several tackles earlier in the game that were not penalised. The McKinnon tackle by comparison was pretty innocuous.

Guy is a freak, skilled and extremely smart footballer. Wouldn't happen, but would absolutely take him for a year.

Don't understand the hate at all either, there was a beautiful moment the other week when Momo made his debut where Smith wondered up to him after the game and asked to point out his family and gave them a big wave and smile.

I guess when you say strengthen, you are talking about a veteran in Soliola who I doubt will leave Canberra. Molo could be good from the bench. The rest are rookies and I haven't even heard of Vudogo and Ferris (maybe my ignorance). We already blooding our own rookies and if we are looking to strengthen some positions, it needs to be with players in their prime who will take us to the next level.

I dont recall Storm being big on marquee signing, i think Madge is aligning us to a similar system whereby we get the most from our squad when they are still on the up just retaining a core perhaps the spine on big $ and the rest is like a revolving door with good hungry youngsters waiting on the wings

For next year if Reynolds goes, how about Mbye to 5/8 Momo to centre then see who is in the market

We have lots of five eighth options, MBye, Doueihi, Talau, Momo and that's apart from Reynolds and Benji, so yes what you propose could be how it turns out.

I'm actually pleased we have lots of options, see what works in the core, upgrade where we can.
A good strategy

I havent seen anything in Doueihi that indicates a great 5/8. Momo as 5/8? Seriously? He would be lucky to get a starting spot in the centres.

IMO the only current player with potential at 5/8 would be Mbye, he has a great passing game, but he has been tried here and at the Dogs there and for some reason hasnt kicked on.

IMO next year we need a new signing for 6.

Smith is certainly a polarising character. In all his interviews he comes across as a genuine bloke, imo and I know he does a lot to help out players and others behind the scenes.

On the field though he can seem very arrogant and belligerent at times. People have criticised some of his tactics and those of the Storm, in general, over the years and perhaps rightly so. He goes to great lengths to get his way with refs, and it will usually work in his, and his team's, favour - if only we had such a captain!

He has also used some pretty dodgy tactics in the ruck, Melbourne have become famous for chicken wings and holding players in tackles to slow play down yet somehow still getting away with it. As captain, Smith has played a big part in creating and implementing all this and I think these are the main reasons people dislike the guy.

Can't deny his incredible talent and football brain though. At 37 he is still out there controlling games and playing as well as he did when he was 27! He has the physical presence of a nerd and plays each week against hulking behemoths yet is rarely injured. Maybe one day after he retires (if I'm still alive lol) we might all find out that he wasn't actually a human being after all, but rather some genetically engineered prototype of a rugby league playing robot ?

I agree with all this. If he was our captain we wouldn't be saying boo about him....but he isn't and as such we look at him with different glasses. He has been instrumental in redefining the game through the wrestling era with the crusher, chicken wing, grapple tackle etc, and the storm pioneered them all because at the time they were legal. Storm were so good at pushing the limits of the rules that they had to change the rules to stop the injuries and I believe that Smith was an enormous part of that. People also see him as a main focus of the salary cap scandal.....throughout his time he has been a part of some unsavoury NRL moments to say the least.

But he has all the records, caps, etc because he has deserved them. I despise the guy for his play, but probably because he doesn't play for us.
