So Staines, Burton and Bunty seem to be within our budget and realistic gets. Now awaiting Marshall to announce retirement.

2 weeks time would be a good time for his announcement to retire. The longer it drags on the more uncertainty it creates which would not be a good thing for the club.

I said this 2 months ago, it all about Benji, not the club, I said it would drag on and be a distraction, the club should just come out and say we have no roster spot for Benji next year, because waiting for him to realise it's time is not working

Why are we after Burton all of a sudden?

We haven’t been linked to him at all but people want him. We could use an upgrade to our halves but it seems like we won’t do that unless we can move on Reynolds

to be honest I think its a little wishful thinking as there may be no actual contact from us. Looking at halves available he would make a decent option. Showed alot of promise and heart in the games his played. Will be cheap and Madge clearly knows our future isnt with Marshall/Reynolds.

Exactly. We’ll be treading water with the halves till 2022. Burton will be gone by then.

On JAC as a Fullback...he might have played there in his junior years, but does anyone think with that much pace, he would be wasted at fullback?

If used right his pace could be even more of a weapon, supporting forwards up the middle, getting the ball more often in more dangerous areas much like Melbourne use Paps, not as a ball player that often but as a running fullback

The big question is whether his positional play and defence as a fullback is up to NRL level

Agree.. Attack will be great i think its just positional play and defence.. He would also need a full off season under Madge to get him fit and ready for FB,

Maybe see if that little jockey sized looking bloke who used to play fullback for the Storm wants to come and help a few days a week at the WT's to help JAC

This has been done a few times but....

https://www.weststigers.com.au/news/2019/11/01/wests-tigers-2020-nrl-squad/

- Roster has 11 gaps (including development players being upgraded and Stefano signing)
- Benji goes around again - 10
- Squad to 28 - 8

It may be cause its early for me (or because I'm slightly dusty) but, I don't get the lack of room for players.

Who are the 8 (10)?

sorry mate but if you do a count of who has a contract on the squad list it's at 24. if you add Momirovski and assume we re-sign McIntyre that's 26. if in fact squad numbers are reduced to 28 that leaves two spots, one you'd think to be filled by Marshall unless we can move M'Bye or Reynolds on, and that last one would be filled by one of Addo-Carr, Staines, Afoa, Proctor or Jason Saab. situation is very difficult so you can see why they're trying to move players on.

I can't imagine the club being dumb enough to play Marshall one more year. Such a waste of a spot.

Nothing would surprise when you hear the young guys being interviewed they all see to mention what a buzz it is to have Benji in the teamthey grew up idolising him and hear they are in the same team wouldn't take much of the cap up so if there's room nothing better available I'dsay Benji could still be around

One of the issues this year has been no harmony in the halves. Chopping and changing hasn't done us any favours. If we're moving AD to 5/8 that's fine, but we need to stick to it. Marshall is the kind of player that gets heaps of media attention and will be expect to be picked if he's on the roster. Better for the club for him to retire and take up a role in the club where he can still be involved. It's a distraction we don't need.

Bang on, Benji is never the back up, never played reserve grade here, and I reckon he wouldn't have been dropped if we had CC Cup this year, Benji thinks he is still a starter every week regardless of what he says publicly.
Madge seems to be star struck with Benji, he should have been dropped after the Knights game, Rowdy was, so were a few others, there is no benefit to having Benji play next year, unless we are aiming for another bottom 8 finish, and to stall Madden's progress for another year, total waste of a much needed roster spot

I can see the attraction to playing him there, but it depends on the money we pay him. If it doesn't work out at FB, we've got a pretty expensive winger on the books.

I like JAC and would happily trial him at FB, but a little concerned about "Fullback Money" if it doesn't work out...You'd think he would command more than Doueihi and ultimately, this is a work in progress at best.

You wouldn’t be giving him anything over $600k and that’s the max. At around $500k he can play fullback, if he’s good enough he earns himself an upgrade if not then $500k for one of the best wingers isn’t that bad.

Doueihi is on more money...see the problem?

I don't. I think Doueihi is worth that money.

Souths are paying part of that contract and he’s shown to be good at 21 years old, still needs a full pre season with us. At fullback or half he’s probably worth it, at centre would be over priced

STORM AND TIGERS DISCUSS SECOND SWAP OVER THE FOX

THE Melbourne Storm attempted to manoeuvre a swap deal with the Wests Tigers in relation to NSW and Kangaroos winger Josh Addo-Carr.

The only trouble was they asked for the Tigers best emerging player in Tommy Talau.

The Tigers are looking at Addo-Carr as an option to play fullback but weren’t keen on the Talau swap. The other swap deal between the Storm and the Tigers centres around young gun hooker Harry Grant.

Sadly for Tigers fans, the chances of Grant remaining at Concord appear between slim and bugger all. Grant will be back at the Melbourne Storm next season.

I would not be trading Tommy T.

Not a chance. Storm are a sneaky bunch. Cut the Tigers a break they already fleeced us for Korobiete, Fox, Papynhuyzen.

So let me get this right .. for 2021 we are after the following:
Proctor, Bunty Afoa, Staines, JAC, Hastings and Burton .. ??

We're not chasing Proctor.

Agreed multiplied by infinity

JAC for Talau is a no. I'd be inclined to let them keep Momirovski in exchange for JAC. He's good but don't think he has a spot in the team if Talau and Leilua are gonna be the centres.

I don't think Bellamy would accept Momo for an international. I'd take JAC for Talau in a heartbeat.
