Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I would honestly think if we can at least snag just Burton + JAC the rest can be for depth. A possible (realistic) squad selection of:
1 Adam Doueihi
2 Josh Addo Carr
3 Moses Mybe
4 BJ Leilua
5 David Nofoluma
6 Matt Burton
7 Luke Brooks
8 Josh Aloiai
9 Grant/Liddle
10 Russel Packer
11 Luciano Leilua
12 Luke Garner
13 Alex Twal
14 Thomas Mikaela
15 Shawn Blore
16 Zane Musgrove
17 Michael Chee Kam/Stefano Utoikamano

Do I dare say...that finally looks like a genuine top 8 team

William Kei, Asu Kepaoa and Josh Rizk are all outside back options in addition to Tommy Talau. We have the makings of a very good backline all well recruitrd by WTs. It is what we do best.

Why do we need to trade him for JAC?

Because JAC is still contracted for next year and the Storm aren't idiots like us who release players for no benefit.

Let them keep him then. He can do a Matterson with them. It's not our problem.

Tommy's a potential franchise player and we haven't had a world class centre since Rowdy had his horror run with injuries. I want JAC of course but we could easily go after Saab or Johnston and not have to worry about giving away one of the players that we've earmarked as the future.

I'd love to see Talau become a franchise player which I assume means he is one of the top players in the game but based on what he has delivered so far there is no way he will ever get close to that level.

On JAC as a Fullback...he might have played there in his junior years, but does anyone think with that much pace, he would be wasted at fullback?

If used right his pace could be even more of a weapon, supporting forwards up the middle, getting the ball more often in more dangerous areas much like Melbourne use Paps, not as a ball player that often but as a running fullback

The big question is whether his positional play and defence as a fullback is up to NRL level

I can see the attraction to playing him there, but it depends on the money we pay him. If it doesn't work out at FB, we've got a pretty expensive winger on the books.

I like JAC and would happily trial him at FB, but a little concerned about "Fullback Money" if it doesn't work out...You'd think he would command more than Doueihi and ultimately, this is a work in progress at best.

You wouldn’t be giving him anything over $600k and that’s the max. At around $500k he can play fullback, if he’s good enough he earns himself an upgrade if not then $500k for one of the best wingers isn’t that bad.

Doueihi is on more money...see the problem?

Maybe, but we are not paying ALL that money, Souffs are paying some.

For this year...not his whole contract. It's besides the point...we WILL be paying JAC's contract and he is going to want more than Doueihi.

If the Storm have already agreed to release JAC for the 2021 season then why offer a player for a swap deal given that JAC will be released regardless. We have to tempt JAC with an attractive offer not appease the Storm given they have agreed to release him to be closer to his family.

They haven't agreed to anything.

According to the following article Storm have reluctantly agreed to release JAC for next year:

https://www.sportingnews.com/au/league/news/josh-addo-carr-and-michael-maguire-hold-talks-as-storm-speedster-eyes-fullback-switch-in-tigers-return/1u28ucyezj3591gk1q3vxl42yx.

All the reports are that they will release him but require something in return. They haven't agreed to release him for nothing (and nor should they).

WTs should consider a one way swap for a year ie Storm release JAC, we provide one of our up and coming backs for a year. It could be a rolling programme.

The Storm may want something in return but this does not equate to a player swap with the Wests Tigers as outlined in my original post. The extract below from the article I quoted infers just that:

"Melbourne remain determined to ensure they're not left in the lurch with Addo-Carr's premature departure and are seeking players in return."

Reports over the weekend suggested the club could be offered former NRL star Curtis Rona, who is currently playing rugby in England but is understood to share the same manager with Addo-Carr, Mario Tartak."

Well he could count as a WT'S player the Forum had him signed to play with us 12 months ago

I like Twal as prop not lock. If McIntyre can add some bulk I like him at lock. Good defensive technique and some ball skills. Hope MCK is moved on.

The best thing about Madge talking to and trying to recruit Addo Carr is it implies he’s here for the long term. He’s not calling rep players if he’s leaving. We don’t have to and should not offer a young up and comer is a trade.Sign Fox for 2022 season onwards and then worry about it.

Storm are acting like they have leverage. Tigers shouldn’t be that short sighted. I hope we have learned lessons of the past.

Also now with Pamfers giving Charlie Stains permission to speak with other clubs how does that effect our thinking also having promising Charlie Lennard from St Gregs who also hails from Forbes hopefully they are mates

We can’t afford to wait. The only reason we are a chance of signing him is because the big clubs can’t afford him and we are one of the few clubs who can offer Storm compensation. We wait until 2022 and he’ll go elsewhere, Storm could easily refuse a release until they get compensation

KEary with roosters until 2024

3 Year extension and according to the Salary Cap will be on 150k Per year.. :grinning: :grinning: :grinning:
It's amazing what players will do to play for a big club

Ill be filthy if Talau is let go. First year of 1st grade and has handled it pretty bloody well. Has the world at his feet and is someone we need to hang onto.

Totally agree. He needs time to develop and as I have said on countless occasions not a winger but will be extremely handy at right edge centre.

Josh Riszk https://www.playrugbyleague.com/Competitions/Match/ryde-eastwood-hawks-ss-v-wentworthville-united-ss-374515

has been in brilliant form in Sydney Shield and it's players like him who will suffer if the squad numbers have to be wound back next year. What makes it interesting is that it is my understanding that the NRL has worked out there needs to be a reserve grade fixture before first grade as since Covid many players can't get game time - apologies if this has been explained elsewhere but just in case does anyone know about this yet?

What has happened to Mavoni also? Huge talent and a handful from JF last year?

Why would we let Talau potentially go forever when we only need to wait 1 more year for JAC? Melbourne are only releasing the bloke from a final year and he is determined to move.

We can't be that dumb.

I wouldn’t panic. It doesn’t sound like we were interested in a player swap involving Talau. At least how I read it.

Off contract in 2022 we’d have zero chance of signing him.
