I find it amusing that some posters would prefer to keep Talau and risk losing JAC over it.

Even Momo has shown more ability then Talau has shown so far.
Who cares about potential when you have proven success knocking at the door.

If Talau was a Knights junior, I doubt people would have the same opinion if the same scenario was offered.

Talau is cheap with two years to go on a contract.
The fact the Storm have asked for him should tell you all you need to know. We are not in a position to be releasing quality rookies for big priced wingers. Love the Fox but I sign him for 2022 and remove Storm leverage.

Exactly. Storm already have Momo who i'm sure would stay there but instead they allegedly want Talau. There's a reason for that. A 20 year old kid who has done a great job playing out of position week in and week out in the toughest competition in the world. Bellamy is no fool.

We can’t just wait for JAC to come off contract in 2022. By then all the big clubs will chase him and we won’t stand a chance, this is one of the few times we are actually a shot at signing an origin level player we have to at least try

I agree but we can’t give up a talented kid on a cheap contract who in my view will become a 10 year starting player. We have mismanaged the cap it will come back to bite us. How many times do Melbourne get recruitment wrong. Past history we sign Adam Blair they end up with Korobiete, JAC and Papynhuyzen.

We desperately need an origin level player in our team. We need pace and a match winner, in a perfect world I would want to keep Talau but if that’s the only way to get JAC you have to do it. It’s not like JAC is a risk to sign

Will they take Joey Leilua, Reynolds as a sidedish?

I just don’t think Melbourne have the leverage they think they do. Any player swapped has to be one we can do without but Melbourne need.
Momirovski is probably a wiser move.

All bets are off for Harry Grant I’d move anyone in the roster for this kid.

He’s a huge risk to play and get paid like a fullback. Back in Sydney the off field risk is much higher. I don’t do that trade if I’m the Tigers.

In all honesty I don’t think Talau will be heading to Melbourne. Sounds like Melbourne mentioned it but doesn’t mean Madge wants to do it or that we have to do it, it’s just part of the negotiations while they’re still trying to figure out what to do

We have no reason to offer him top tier fullback money. Give him $500k so if fullback doesn’t work it’s not crazy overs for a winger

I like Talau and prefer we keep him but any club in the comp would swap Tommy for JAC.

If we gained JAC for Tommy we have - JAC, Nofa, Momorovski, Douehi, Joey, Mbye, Kepoaoa, Cini, Bradley all in the outside bscks still. 2 origin players, 2x Dally M centre of tje year, etc

He’s on 450k now. It won’t happen unless we are paying 600k per season. If you can offload a player to make it happen that frees up room it’s a no brainer but not Talau. MCK, Mikalele or a subsidised Packer or Mbye I’d do it yesterday.

He might not get fullback at another club is the difference especially if he wants a move now. Sounds like the club is trying to free up space

teams dont want to swap
Mikaele
Packer
Mmbye
Reynolds
etc
To do a trade you actually need to offer a player that may be of interest to the other club not a player you think is crap or overpaid and you want to let go

Consider Nofa is apparently on $450k. $550k or $600k seems fair (but no higher).

According to the DT we were considering Edene Gebbie from Souths but he was released and returned to PNG. Souths kept the whole thing quiet probably so no one else would sign him.

Will probably free up enough space to sign JAC

Well IMO Talau at this stage is ok , I am not really seeing what many others are ! Some of the talk here is a bit over hyped in that regard .. So to that I would not hesitate with a swap deal with Melbourne for JAC .. is Talau a good prospect yes but that’s the problem in Tiger town all potential , signing up a couple of experienced and proven players is critical at this stage if some potential needs to be sacrificed so be it !

Good to see players investing their $s wisely.

For me he certainly has potential but this is his breakout year so it’s a long way before we really see what he’s got.
I’ll say that I would agree to a one year release from his current Storm Deal but on similar conditions as we have with Momo.
I would however wait and see how the question Smith’s retirement or relocation pans out as then Grant’s situation will
also be to be considered.
