Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Christian Welch last 2 games against Roosters and Parramatta combined:
37 runs for 356m, 63 tackles

Russell Packer last 2 games against Bulldogs & Roosters combined:
40 tackles, 12 runs for 93m

Christian Welch needs to be a priority BUY imo! Tough as old boots, great offload and takes anyone on without fear! Arguably the best fwd in QLD.Then get Staines and Burton as value buys instead of JAC.

Welch would be great but a pipe dream. I expect with Smith's contract money they can re sign Welch, Grantvand B Smith

If the likes of Staines and Burton did get a release, I would be very surprised to see them head our way. You would think there would be plenty of clubs offering good deals. Also the Barrett connection would have some sway

Before anybody is signed we need to announce an extension for Maguire as players who we want need to know who they are being coached by and stability. The signing of JAC will not solve all our problems but the message it would send to potential players that we can attract a current SOO and Australian test player still in his prime. These two things along with some offloads and Marshalls retirement will go a long way to put us in the right direction and give us creditability. Staines would be another target.Given lack of choices Hastings could be a consideration.

I don’t think an extension is necessarily wanted. I could be wrong but I haven’t seen the positive changes many others have. Looked to be going well mid season but since then it’s all fallen apart. I know we don’t have the cattle but the attitude has changed, which is a worry.

Additionally, even if offered an extension who’s to say he’d go for it? I’m not sure he would.

What message would it then send if Maguire leaves and we are onto another coach. Sick of hearing rebuild to be honest No surprise that Easts, Melbourne and Broncos Bennett era had long term coaches and sustained success. Players are attracted to these clubs.

Doesn’t Maguire’s contract ends next year?
Come November we are chasing players for when his contract runs out (yes and some for next year)
How can we get out of a rebuild cycle if we keep changing coaches the year we want players to start? Surely they want to know the coach?
Sign him up for 2 years, announce next years players. Sign up the following years players.

Apparently Saints are offering him less than 400k. He's easily worth that! You'd think 500k would be his range. Swap him for McQueen and our squad looks a lot better!!

hopefully we exact revenge by poaching a few of their classy juniors that can't get a consistent crack in grade.

We need a beast like Taniela Tupou (Union).

I know it all seems like Doom at the moment but I think we need to appreciate what the club is doing considering what salary cap problems we have. In the past we have been focusing on trying to buy old players on big money E.g. Reynolds, Packer, etc .
Now we are investing into youth and not just our youth , we are getting them from all over the place E,g, Blore, Simpkins, Hoffman, Anu, Stefo, etc.. Also looks like the club is putting a lot of focus on our juniors in the local area and locking them up before other clubs poach.
Its very smart as they are not big money investments straight away and if they turn out well, we will have the money to keep them.
Once we finally get JR, Moses, Packer of the books we can start putting that kind of money on real top line players that will build nicely with the juniors we have.

I truly believe Madge is the right coach for us moving forward and we should only be judging him once we turn over these high priced duds that he DIDN"T buy..

The forward pack looks good for 2021 with the addition of the Parramatta Bopper and a fit Musgrove. Packer is just taking the piss out of WT. Major disappointment. Happy to sign the Warriors prop we have been linked to as he is young and NRL experience.

Backs need some fresh talent with some speed. Hopefully JAC, Staines, etc are the answer.

Number one priority is a Half Back. Who I don't know as not much available. I would love a Cooper Cronk clone.
(yes huge fan and one of the best organising half back I have ever seen. 9 Grand Finals)
I like Brooks and appreciate what he has done for WT but he is not the answer.

Sorry Magpies but our issues start and end with the forwards. That's where it was lost. Whether it is an attitude or talent problem, I do not know. I suggested Jack Hetherington. To me he looks fearless and we could do with some controlled aggression.

I believe Madge quoted defence in the middle and edges. Not just the forwards

Hetherington played 22 games and reported 9 times. (Maybe 23/10) sight him up and let’s see how he goes for us....

Hetherington reminds me of JWH when he was at Manly and moved to the Roosters.

Did JWH get suspended every second game at Manly?

One issue is that we don’t have anyone backing up. When Talau got tackled after his line break we have about three guys there with him. Roosters had their whole team back

JAC at fullback should be following the ball constantly looking for opportunities

That was another thing that annoyed me, if you watch brooks who was probably the closest player to Talau when he intercepted, he sort of just follows with a slow jog assuming he was gonna go all the way

What did the other 11 do?

Obviously not much. Just used brooks as an example as he would have been the closest in proximity

Realistically I think he'll cost $700k. If Cotric is 650k, JAC is more than him, plus he's going to play the fullback card.

It helps if we have no competition though

Disagree. Cotric can and has covered fullback, wing & centre. JAC is a good winger. He is quick, but I think Ferguson offers more.

I would offer 500k take it or leave it
