I don’t see how people see James as a plodder he is captain of the team winning the comp haha how people don’t see this as a good thing for the tigers is beyond me

The age was the concern for me. If it's 2 years then that mitigates the risk to an extent. At least he produces good metres, is a good defender and will be a good leader for our otherwise very inexperienced pack. Something Packer should have been but he's too much of a drongo.

I wasn't for the signing when it was first mentioned. Have come round to this thinking the last few days too. Hopefully the $$$ aren't stupid.

If we manage to keep Harry and snag all these players our offseason will be fantastic and I may cry a lot
1.Tamou
2.Jac
3.Hetherington
4.Stefano
5.Staines

Add Kepaoa. whom seems likely to be an outstanding back and we have done extremely well. If this outcome eventuates, perhaps IC still has a soft spot for WTs.

And at least we have a captain now

If Tamou signing is true it may well be a move in the right direction. Two year deal sounds sensible, and let's just hope the guy doesn't come to us and settle into mediocrity. If he continues to play as he has this season then it will be a good signing for us.
I am not convinced that considering our roster space and available funds, we can possibly sign JAC, Staines and Hetherington as well. I mean I have my fingers and toes crossed that it happens but I can't imagine how.
As for JAC the latest word is that Madge isn't willing to pay him fullback money until he proves himself so that should satisfy concerns from many forumers. Getting them both across the line and re-signing Madge, would be something of a coup for the club.

If Storm lost Jessie Bromich or Roosters lost JWH they would both be excited to sign Tamou. The Tigers have identified a lack of on field leadership and are trying to fix it.

Tamou may also be able to mentor some of our current forwards to become forward leaders over the next 2 years.

Any singing is a risk but Tamou looks like having a very good chance of improving our pack.

I'm pleased we haven't gone out of our way to offer 'overs' to players to come here. You could argue Doueihi and Joey may be on overs, but Joey on his day can terrorise teams and on the few occasions we have put him into space this season, he's a handful with a headfull of steam up. Doueihi is still improving and looks to be a prospect at centre, possibly at 6 and can play 1, although I think he lacks the outright urgency to be a top 1. He is our best player under the high ball though.

I like the prospect of signing the other 3 players (Staines, Hetherington and Gigantor) who would strengthen our pack and backline noticeably. With the roster staying at 30, it means Eisenhuth could stay, although I suspect on a reduced contract. I don't have an issue with that as the stronger clubs have good depth and we know Eiso can do a job in FG - he just wouldn't make our top 17 but if we're going to be competitive, you need depth when injuries strike.

Signings like Josh Addo-Carr and James Tamou on sensible $ based deals are such big improvements and upgrades from a recruitment perspective than big money signings such as Mbye, Reynolds and Packer

Definitely a step in the right direction from the club, now if we can get Staines on a low $ deal and play him at fullback I’ll be extremely happy!

I think our backline makeup next year will change depending on who partners brooks in the halves...if madden comes through I can’t see room for either AJ or talau...however if Mbye or doueihi play 6 then one of them can shift into a backline spot...exciting times...for me I see talau as our future right centre and AJ as our fullback

Why would Staines come here? Surely Penrith have room for him?

All that was said is that these players are on our radar ..... no guarantees in recruitment land.
Landscape is changing significantly if cap numbers stay the same and players have to take a cut to satisfy next years dollar reduction imposed by the NRL.

Yeah didn't consider salary cap. Thanks.

Staines is about 4th in Penrith pecking order , if we can offer him 1st team footy and a up grade on his contract , Iam sure he would jump at it .

Wow can’t believe the arm chair critics and the comments on Tamou.
I actually think if true it’s an astute pickup.
He instantly becomes our best prop & our best senior leader both of which we lack big time right now.

I get we want a barn stormer, but seriously getting the captain & prop from the premiers and one who also lead the pack to the GF for the Cowboys, is in form, will do alot of dirty work we need & one who isn’t busted with major injury concerns is something any tiger fan should be very happy about.

100% Agree mate... Madge has already proven we wont be paying overs for guys especially if they are over 30. Some people are putting the bad recruitment of Packer & Reynolds on Madge and all his recruitment so far has been young up and comers except Joey. We have one of the youngest packs in the NRL next year (excluding Packer as he is useless) and they need to be guided and learn what it takes to win. Tamou is perfect for us for 2 years and a no brainer decision. . I Personally think Madge and his team as doing an outstanding job with the limited funds available until we lose Packer & Reynolds.

The idea is Tamou isn't going to be a player to get us a premiership but a player who's value is more in the process of winning a premiership.

Our forwards are all very young, he will provide leadership for 2 years, after those 2 years the likes of Twal and Aloiai will be heading into their peak seasons. The young forwards of Blore and Utoikamanu will have also progressed (hopefully) to where Aloiai and Twal are currently at now. Once Tamou retires we then use his money to sign the next up and coming young forward. What this means is we now have a blend of seasoned forwards + experienced youth + young upcommers

So yes he is no superstar signing and won't be a revelation but its all part of a process to get the right balance in a successful team.

Twal needs to smash someone. Makes 40 tackles a game and no one remebers any of them. Only needs to do it a couple of times. Never saw Fonzie hit anyone but he had the rep.

Remember that Ben Kennedy was 31 when he signed a 2 year deal to play for Manly in 2005 & 2006. They had a lot of young forwards coming through who needed to be shown the way. Guys like Glenn Stewart and Anthony Watmough had barely played any NRL. They didn't do anything as a team in those two years, but it set them for the next 5 or so years when they were extremely successful. Both of those players, among others, ended up playing for their countries.

We have a similar group of forwards who could all end up being just as good under the tutelage of Tamou.

Correction: Think you meant to say Minor Premiers.
