Manly are close to signing Wests Tigers utility Luke Garner to replace departing forwards Joel Thompson and Addin Fonua-Blake for next season.

Garner, aged 25, has been a consistent performer for the Tigers this season, playing 16 top grade games.

The Dubbo-born second-rower or centre has another two years on his deal at Concord but coach Michael Maguire is believed to be prepared to release him as he sets about rebuilding the Tigers' roster.

Here is our chance to leverage Melbourne into releasing JAC to us. Do Manly have a suitable replacement who can be shifted to Melbourne?

I know Garners release will free up cash but if we can manage some smart business we could kill 2 birds with one stone. It's what the smart clubs would do.

I wouldn’t be in a rush to sign him. Not just cos his old man is a goose, but if he was worth anything, why would Griffin not want him. The guy who a lot of you like to credit with the success of the Panthers juniors. He obviously can spot a young player.

I wouldnt either we have more pressing concerns across our squad atm that need to be addressed.

How is sailors defence. Don’t recall seeing him play

About as good as any other rookie half, not very good ?

Then Reynolds/Walters are better, at least they can tackle. We need players who can tackle.

Until we stop leaking 30 points a game, we’ll never go anywhere.

He is better than Reynolds and Walters.
Walters will miss a chunk of the season recovering from his ACL at best he is a reserve anyway.

That’s a ridiculous statement. He’s played 3 games off the interchange bench at an ordinary team and missed about half the tackles he’s attempted.

There is potential sure, but he ain’t better than what we have.

So many fans seem to only look at the attack.

How is it ridiculous so many fans have blinkers on.

I analyze players on and off the ball, for defense & attack structures outside of the play efforts - always have.

Walters misses and falls off a heap of tackles its why he didn’t last at hooker. Because he couldn’t hold his man. The only thing he offers was spark in attack

Reynolds hits players high as part of his aggressive defense style and gets brushed off with ease, he also rushes up and gets beat every game. Again everyone talks about his energy but that also is in attack.

Sailor hits around the waste, he does arm grab but most kids do these days. His attack is better than the other 1.

Defense is at a similar level for all 3. Sailor age, lack of experience, body growth and skill level is however better value. His defense in juniors was fine. He needs time to adapt to the nrl.

I’m comparing apples with apples, thats not ridiculous because Reynolds, Walters and Sailor are all reggie players. Sailor is already a more value add offering than the other 2.

No to Sailor from me. Prefer Burton, Clifford or Drinkwater.

I wouldn’t sign him either unless we wanted a utility back which isn’t a need atm we have plenty of those. We need specialist players in key positions over someone like Sailor.

By the looks of it we're after Hetherington. Seabirds are in the mix, but if they sign Garner then Hetho is a no.
