Nobody is mounting that argument. The argument is pleasing player managers should not be a high concern.

Wow flash Flanagan. The world's smallest second rower.

Yeah he was certainly dwarfed by Pauli Pauli

He learned of the best hooker in the world for the last few years. Cam doesn’t have the physical attributes anymore but he’s the smartest footy player in the league. Harry has the smarts and the physicality, it’s a great mix

Has he just learnt of Smith ? I have my doubts. Brandan Smith would have had more opportunities to learn from Smith but to me he appears a very different player.

I reckon Grant is an awesome player but he made some mistakes last season when he was probably tired. He has great footy smarts but those mistakes can be killers. He threw some bad forward passes when we were right on the attack.

Liddle to me currently is nowhere near Grant but Liddles speed and passing game are really good.

I'd prefer Grant on the same money but I think we need other areas fixed prior to hooker. I'm hopeful that Liddle comes on next year but he will need back-up. I'd play Mbye off the bench to give Liddle support and have Walters and Simpkin as back-ups as well. Hooker is such a tough and critical position.

I really don't see how much of an opportunity Harry would have had to learn too much off Cameron Smith, what with Cam training and being down in Melbourne and Harry playing in the Queensland cup.
I suppose anyone could watch video to study various aspects of Cameron Smith's game, but I think Harry is just a natural talent and that's all there is to it.
I agree that Liddle's passing game is crisper than Harry's and that Harry's passing game started to go off noticeably deep into a game when fatigue started to set in.
Other people have commented on how good we looked when Liddle came on at dummy half and Harry went to lock and I tend to agree, but the one that I would really love to see would be Liddle at dummy half and the block of cheese at lock.
I reckon that would really be something else.

What people notice when Liddle came on was a ball player getting involved nearly every play when chasing points. Brooks role imo.
A ball playing lock is what the team needs

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. Aren’t the managers making recommendations to their players? I think they should be treated just like everyone else. As a high priority.

I believe Tigers use a defensive lock because that is our biggest weakness. If we struggled to score points or wanted the halves to stay on their side and have the lock distribute the ball like Radley, Jurbo, Liu then you need a ball playing lock.

Someone like Brandon Smith who is good in defence and attack would be a big upgrade.

Tigers perhaps need to be cumbersome for a few years after several years of not being cumbersome enough.

Managers only get the irrits because clubs don't flash the cash or take due diligence. Managers are like real estate agents, they want the deal done yesterday with buckets of cash.

Sure, I can understand your point about being cautious, but..
I doubt anyone could mount a credible argument in favour of inefficient and unnecessary delays in administrative dealings? This sort of behaviour can develop distrust.

“While Arthur is criticised for being too old-school and not taking on new ideas, O’Neill and the Eels football department are castigated throughout the NRL for being “too bureaucratic”. Their slow decision making and negotiating frustrates many. Managers say, along with Wests Tigers, they are the most cumbersome club to deal with.

Last year’s negotiations with club captain Clint Gutherson were a case in point. Rightfully, Gutherson felt disrespected and he has proved himself to be their best player. It was not how their leader deserved to be treated and every signing the club makes is like pulling teeth.”

Thanks for sharing.

All I'll say is ego, ego, ego. They gave him the opportunity that Manly wouldn't and *he's* disrespected? If you don't want to be somewhere, then go elsewhere and if the other person in the relationship (ie. the Eels) don't pay you the attention you feel you deserve, find someone who will.

But don't go to the papers or the internet and have a whine about it.

There’s nothing wrong with ego look at any sport world wide
all the top players have egos

I agree that there's nothing wrong with ego. It's essential as a competitor. Spot on.

But having dealt with many contracts, generally I find people tend to overplay their hand and certainly let emotions overrule their commonsense. Not getting what you want hurts but it isn't remedied by complaining to the greater public about it nor does it make you the bigger person.

I don’t know that it was Gutherson complaining to the Sun Herald? More likely frustration surfacing from his manager to illustrate a point. I understand clubs often need to hold off while the dominoes fall, but a little transparency wouldn’t hurt during those times.

Yeah, I may have jumped the gun. It doesn't say that Gutherson said that, just Weedler speaking on his behalf.

He covers the halves too. Versatile player.

Just updating this, I missed Tamou :face_with_rolling_eyes:
We closed the year with 29 after CMQ left shortly before the end
We said farewell to 8 including Harry so that’s 21
Momorovski rejoins in theory and Tamou and Uto joins us so that’s 24
We had x5 2020 development players, Simpkin, Madden, Bradley, Cini & Hoffman. Am I correct that the first 4 get promoted into the top 30 while Hoffman is scheduled for 2022? Those 4 would likely be on the base of $115k, maybe Simpkins is a bit higher
If so that’s 28 leaving 2 spots to fill assuming no further movement
That assumes re-singning McIntyre and Seyfarth
By my reckoning I’d say we have in the vicinity of $0.8 million for those two spots so feels tough to squeeze JAC and Harry in without other movement in our roster

From my understanding, it is:
Not sure if Garner is still with us?
