Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The cupboard is looking extremely bare for 2021.

Apart from Tamou, all we've signed rookies that other clubs obviously didn't see as priorities.

Unless there are a few decent signings on the way, we're going to be battling for the spoon.

Perhaps they've given up on 2021 and are putting all their resources into 2022. I agree with you though, if Tamou is our only signing then we've gone backwards considering Grant was our best player in 2020. We would be one of the favourites for the spoon, no doubt.

Stefano is one of the highest rated rookies around to be fair eels were filthy he left but besides that yeah not many gains for next season, guess you can count AJ too he’s not been here long

The hope will be that we can get JAC and that our young guys will develop nicely

Josh I just wrote a post in the"Rabs ace forced out"thread they have farewelled 7 players before the 2021 season, this made me think that they are trying to fit JAC into the club...only speculating but we know what he thinks of the brothers..

Would Souths have an interest in Angus Crichton?

Besides Robert’s $550k and Lowe $300k?, the rest are on bugger all, minimum wage, Arrow coming on $800k, they have to replace the other players remember

Well i think the policy is that if players are not worth signing from other clubs apart from JAC that's been tabled there is not much room within our cap to go on a spending spree like the bulldogs have done.

I have nil expectations making the 8 next year and do think we will finish somewhere where we did the this year.

The following year we will have some room and a new Centre of Excellence with facilities to attract some talent.

Suppose we just have to be patient until the following year.

We have done well so far with our signings, Avo. Remembering that we have very limited finances for 2021, If we don't get JAC, which I don't think we will, by the way, then we have 4 spots to fill, with not a lot of dough. If they went for Sam Mac and Seyfarth (which is the word so far) that is two on say 350-400k then we still have 2 more to sign and pay - we will not be getting anyone sensational for what we have left to stop going backwards (your words), so we are just going to have to take it on the chin and put up with the best we can manage on the field next year. With I might add another team that Madge and us think is not the team we want.

However now that November 1 has passed, I would hope that they are out there, doing the very best they can, to get Madge the team he wants for 2022. The players are there off contract (or not) and we will have a lot more dough - it is not as if we need a new team just 2-3 strategic signings to go into 2022 with a more than competitive team every week against whatever team we are facing.

Until then, we are going to have to put up with what the team can achieve - whether that is going backwards or just going ahead with a small step.

Forgot about Arrow, but I still think Bennett is shifty in the way he does things, but lets wait and see if JAC sticks with us ...

We've had this discussion many times in many forms but ultimately we don't agree. I think waiting for him to have his entire team is a cop out, especially considering the vast majority of the much maligned current squad were either signed or re-signed by Madge.

I think AD and LL have been fantastic signings. I think Joey L, to date, has been a complete waste of money, as was Robert Jennings. The jury is out on whether Stefano, Tamou and AJ will be good signings.

Pretty sure they only have one or two spots in their roster and a lot of guys on good money. If they were to get JAC it would be for 2022.

He may be shifty or he may be very smart.
His record speaks for itself........look what happened in origin.

Souffs lose Roberts and Lowe .. but upgraded Mitchell, Johnston, Paulo, Marsters and Siro .. but then purchased Arrow, Host and Milne on upgraded contracts as well. So they'll have heaps left in their cap for JAC especially if he signs up on a decreased contract, like all players do .. right .. !!

2021 Gains
William Kei (2021), James Tamou (Penrith Panthers, 2022), Kelma Tuilagi (2021), Stefano Utoikamanu (Parramatta Eels, 2023)

These are our gains for 2021, think we also keep forgetting we signed Stefano from Parramatta another quality pick up.

Off Contract 2021
Josh Aloiai, Shawn Blore, Kane Bradley, Michael Chee-Kam, Zac Cini, William Kei, Jacob Liddle, Jock Madden, Thomas Mikaele, Zane Musgrove, David Nofoaluma, Russell Packer, Josh Reynolds, Kelma Tuilagi, Billy Walters.

Also can't see us keeping the following in 2022.
Chee-Kam, Cini, Packer, Reynolds, Walters.

Retention
Aloiai, Blore, Liddle, Nofoaluma.

Sitting on the fence with the others see how they perform next season.
Madden, Mikaele, Musgrove, Others don't know if they make starting team to judge but Kei looks good in clips.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the last 4 spots in our roster. Even if we keep McIntyre and Seyfarth there’s still two spots open, JAC obviously is best case scenario but I wonder what position or what kind of player they’ll target to fill the other spot/spots.

Wonder if it’ll be more young guys looking to prove themselves or maybe we have the cap to sign a decent established first grader to make our 17 even if we get JAC. They like to keep that last spot open for a while in case anyone decent leaves their club before June 30 most of the time

I thought weeks ago maybe recruitment puts the que in the rack if we miss out on JAC for 2021 and look towards 2022
not much left for us 2021 if we miss JAC

Ky Rodwell and Tom Amone both released by Souths. would happily take either of them to bolster our pack.

We've hardly any pace except for Brooks and Kepaoa but all acquisitions are forwards?

Desperately need to uncover a few gems with the amount of youth we have signed for next year, penrith tried it years ago and seems like they are reaping the rewards now

I do miss the times we had an extremely talented juniors coming through the ranks though
