If Staines didn’t get injured i reckon Mansour would have been sitting on the sidelines ages ago. The fact he got turfed for next year and Staines re-signed probably reinforces that

I feel he would get found out massively if we signed him, playing in a red hot penrith team hid his liabilities

And yet when Penrith was pretty average, Mansour was getting picked for NSW and Australia.

Had 2 acl injuries since I believe and isn’t getting and younger. Def isn’t the same player

I liked what AJ did this year, but he was very prone to mistakes i honestly think he is a year away.

That is normal from a young player. Let him make mistakes and learn in the NRL. What he demonstrated is the pace and finishing power that Nofoaluma, Mansour, and Leilua lack. Leilua was having meltdowns and everyone has him as a starter next year! I wouldn't feed him. Give me Kepaoa any day who will have a good crack.

What did we lack this year? Consistency!!! what does josh bring? Consistency ! I can see what Madge is trying to do

The SMH article about James Roberts also mentioned we're after Penrith's Matt Burton, what do we reckon about him? He did play for the mighty Dubbo CYMS so must be pretty good 🙂

I reckon he's awesome. I'd much rather throw money at him.

I know Geo (or it may have been someone else) mentioned the statistical method Hartigan uses for recruitment targets, but in applying it to Mansour for example how exactly would it measure individual performance rather than due to team effort/momentum etc? He's coming from the Panthers.

I agree Roberts and Mansour would strengthen the team however feel it's Reynolds all over again - signing any player who wants to come here. Filling positions for the sake of it and they don't really increase our chances of a premiership(which is where our goal should be not just the 8th spot) and I'd actually prefer we build and save funds for 2022 anyway. That's obviously my opinion though.
They may very well help our chances of making the 8 but given the injury history of Roberts and Mansour being at the back end of his career, there's an all too familiar feeling as a supporter and I don't want us to not have any cap space when someone significant comes off contract...or even worse be stuck with players constantly injured and causing team reshuffling week in, week out.
Honestly just seems a little desperate to me and we've seemed niftier in our recent approach - Tamou, Kepaoa and JAC.

How many spots do we even have vacant?
Do we need to offload players to get them?
Dependent on the answers of these questions, it could be counterproductive to our short and mid-term plans. I don't want us to go through the next year working on combos when every team is getting better each week - that's dumb.

I think the difference is Reynolds was paraded as a marquee signing. These wouldn't be marquee signings, just signing reasonable talent on reasonable money (hopefully).

On the left wing we had a 20 yr old who dropped the ball 8 times in 3 games

The kid has size and pace. He made a lot of mistakes but also improved a lot over a couple of games. I'm sort of okay with Mansour and Roberts if we get them on good contracts for us but Kepoa may be a good one.

Nah, having roots down the Newell at Peak Hill, I cannot agree, but may have to suck it up for WT sake if we nabbed Burton.

He really had a shocker his 1st game but has improved since then and in the side for the last 4 games of the season.
Think more game time will become a regular 1st grader.
This is what we need to encourage kids like this looking for an opportunity and getting better with game time. (Keeper)

I have kept an eye on this kid as a child prodigy and when I mentioned he would play for Australia within 5 years 18 months ago I got laughed at on this forum. He really is that good.

Imagine having Burton, Kei, Talau, Kepau in our backline next year. OK maybe not premiers 2021 but 2022 & 2023 we'd be looking pretty strong and with an increase space in our cap from 2022.

Mansour and Tamou could be the key to getting a hold of some of the good Penrith players, Crighton, Burton etc. They are both well respected in the playing group, and their word would hold plenty of sway, there might be a method to the madness if true

Mate I know what your saying but it will not happen, Crichton will have all the destination clubs after him and most will probably stay at the foot of the mountains

Just checking, are you saying AJ is a better finisher than Nofa?

So, maybe the JAC result will end up having a silver lining? Melbourne was mentioned as a rival to us for Burton's signature, so if the Storm are now upping JAC's money, that's a bit less they have to offer Burton.

Think you’ve missed all the blowups mate. That won’t be anything close to our backline if we bring in mansour and Roberts

I wrote that Kepaoa finished tries that Nofoaluma and Mansour couldn't due to lack of pace.

Mansour on the cheap for a year or two would be fine. He and Tamou would certainly be a great example for our younger blokes and will help to set standards. ***I doubt Mansour would be starting every week***, rather creating competition for spots and if that was so, good. It won't block players at all, just make them earn their position.

Why the hell would we entertain a player that isnt good enough to get selected?

hahaha I think I've got a fan. What is it about my posts that works you up? Let it out.

To answer your question: depth. Do you think the Storm signed Brenko Lee and said "he'll definitely be our starter in the centres in a finals game"? They also had Seve and Momo so you'd doubt it but I'm sure they thought, in a pinch, he could fill in admirably for them. That's what I meant about the signing of Mansour. Solid pro who can be relied upon to put in no matter his circumstance in the team.

I look to you, P's and C's and a few other guys to give me a heads up on who is coming through and judging those we are linked to, as I haven't been involved in the junoir game for decades, with the last direct early tip I got on a youngster being Craig Gower in the early nineties. Not much use signing quality youngsters then not giving them an opportunity when there is otherwise reasonable experience within the side around them, with Burton seemingly going to fit that bill if he comes over.

Burton is the one to chase.
A young lad I work with has been in the Panthers system for a while.
Even spent mad Monday with em.took three days off lol
He said Daine Laurie is a gun fullback panthers don’t want to lose him but are going to struggle to keep them all.
He had even bigger wraps on Burton, said he could be anything.he said he had serious wheels, one of the fastest in the squad.full package.ball playing, goal kicking and still hasn’t finished growing.
