McInnes is better than Liddle and Simpkin, why do people think he would be our backup hooker? He even made the NSW squad this year, he’s no backup.

He is not!

Not as hooker anyway.

I am sick of hearing that Simpkins is going to be a gun player none of us have seen him play yet people on this forum prefer him to McInnes who is proven at both hooker and lock. Is it not possible that Maguire doesn't rate either him or Liddle and is looking for an alternative. He is at training with them every day. The $600 to $700 grand being thrown about is here say from someone who wasn't at the meeting. If the club wants him they will offer what they think he is worth and what they can afford and he will take it or leave it. If he leaves it watch the doomsayers start screaming that we can't attract talent.

Seen him play and he has all the attributes to become a very good player.
Good at reading the game, defence effective, distribution, dummy half play, has speed and toughness.
Has the goods. One to watch people.
In fact I’ll put my balls on the line here and say ..... he will be the one that you’ll be screaming about in couple of years time when he gets on the open market.

But I do rate McInnes as a player, at lock and as a back up hooker and for the energy and on field leadership he brings.

Man this forum complains we don’t sign any good players and any time we are linked to a good player you give them crap and say they’re not that good

McInnes was a top 6 hooker this year. 50 tackles a game, 120 run metres a game and earned a NSW squad spot. Watching him play he lead from the front no matter what position he played.

Then we say kids who haven’t even played NRL or can’t stay on the field are better? I like Liddle but compare his and McInnes best games and Liddle doesn’t compete.

Anyway I’m sure Madge and hartigan know what they’re doing and have a plan. Having chats with players doesn’t hurt at all, if we end up needing a hooker for 2022 he’s a possibility.

Still can’t believe people bring Liddles name up when we’re linked to two players like smith and McInnes. Been stuck with mediocrity so long they seem to think it’s gonna stay that way

Like sure Liddle and Simpkin have the potential to become quality players, but to say that right now McInnes and smith aren’t as good as Liddle is mind boggling. They’re easily upgrades. Fair enough McInnes isn’t worth $700k but he’s still quality

EXACTLY
Leave it to the professionals not the keyboard Warriors

We seem to be making ok recruitment decisions and not paying overs players. Based on that, I would find it highly unlikely we would be offering 700k to McInnes. 700k gets us a game changer and a long way toward buying the game managing half we need. 700 on a slow hooker/small lock would be another contract we spend 3/4 of the contract trying to unload. Strong NO for me at that price.

Unless McInnes comes to WT to specifically play lock it is a tragic waste our two good hookers who have so much potential. It is also a waste of up to $700K.

Thats it
He comes to play Lock but is more than capable to shift to Hooker if required
Playing McInnes at lock allows 4 forwards on the bench

McInness is a good player but he is not worth $700K. If it is to play hooker, id rather wait the extra year and pay another $300k and go hard for Grant.

How many players are on $700k+ at the roosters?

All except 1.
Teddy

Liddles ability and durability is unproven at this stage.Simpkins at 19 aint quite ready in all probablility
But why chase a "top 6"hooker at big $$ without taking a peek under the hood and see what these two can do??
If were gonna spend that sort of $$ ,grab a proven full back or half back..and get someone better than 6th best!!
We need to aim higher

Signing Sergey for 5 years at 777k is the play I reckon.

You could say that about any young player on our books
We cant continually wait and see how our younger players go
We need to act when someone becomes available
Look at Melbourne
Brandon Smith
Cameron Smith
Harry Grant
All hookers and all play for Melbourne
What's wrong with us getting a proven Hooker
If liddle or Simpkin fire then we are in a great position
Liddle can go to Hooker
McInnes can go to lock
We can loan out Simpkin just like Melbourne did with Grant
We will have bargaining power for once
It would be a great position to be in when we hold all the chips
Its not about halting the development of Simpkin as he can still be developed
Liddle can still be 1st choice Hooker
Its his job to keep it
It puts our club in a much stronger position

We can see what they can do. Liddle has all of next season to prove himself. Simpkin is here for another two seasons. If Liddle gets injured again we shouldn’t keep him - if he plays all season then he can show us whether he’s up to that level.

By 2022 we can’t be sitting around and waiting to see if all our guys come good. We need to have a competitive team that’s consistently makin finals
