Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Also 700k is not top dollar anymore

Do you know the salary cap. Anything over 500k is marquee player level. If there were 17 players in a squad the average salary would be 467k. The average salary in the 30 man squad is 330k.

I like McInness but at 700k I'm not sure I want him here.

McInness on which position he prefers: "I guess it's good that I can do both so if the team need me to play hooker I will do that but I think that before I viewed myself as a hooker who could play lock whereas now, to be honest, I don't really have a preference for either," McInnes said.

"I view myself as a footy player more than a positional player so hooker, lock or wherever, I don’t mind. As long as I am playing footy I am happy. I really enjoy both, which is pretty pleasing to come out of this season for me."

Yeah but how many players do we have on less than 200k? Averaging the cap per player makes no sense because there are all kinds of abilities, ages, positions etc. The fact that we got Roberts on 130k gives us room to sign another player of similar prowess at their market price. If someone told me we would get McInness and Roberts for 830k combined I'd take it every single day of the week

Liddles ability and durability is unproven at this stage.Simpkins at 19 aint quite ready in all probablility
But why chase a "top 6"hooker at big $$ without **taking a peek under the hood and see what these two can do?**?
If were gonna spend that sort of $$ ,grab a proven full back or half back..and get someone better than 6th best!!
We need to aim higher

You could say that about any young player on our books
We cant continually wait and see how our younger players go
We need to act when someone becomes available
Look at Melbourne
Brandon Smith
Cameron Smith
Harry Grant
All hookers and all play for Melbourne
What's wrong with us getting a proven Hooker
If liddle or Simpkin fire then we are in a great position
Liddle can go to Hooker
McInnes can go to lock
We can loan out Simpkin just like Melbourne did with Grant
We will have bargaining power for once
It would be a great position to be in when we hold all the chips
Its not about halting the development of Simpkin as he can still be developed
Liddle can still be 1st choice Hooker
Its his job to keep it
It puts our club in a much stronger position

Thats exactly my point..Im unconvinced that McGuiness offers significant upside to what weve already got and have invested heaviliy in.If you said Harry Grant ,particularly at $700k,Id jump at that opportunity because hes a class above McGuiness and in all probability what we already have.
I guess I just dont rate Mcguiness any higher than the 6th best hooker in the comp as someone suggested, and Id like to think one of our incumbents will get at least to that point quickly.Weve got a season to find out

Its McInnes not Mcguiness
I wouldn't want Ken or Kevin Mcguiness either

We wait a season to find out and McInnes will no longer be available
We could very well end up with what we have now with no improvement
I hope I am wrong like some hope they are right
Every club should look at upgrading every position if capable
Roosters signed Flanagan and let him go 12 months later because he wasn't good enough
They let Mitchell go for Cronk but Mitchell was already a very good half
We, like every other club needs to put the best possible side on the field week in week out
Depth and competition for spots is one of the keys to success
Liddle and Simpkin should be pushed real hard to succeed and to win a starting spot
We as supporters should not be afraid of that
It is a ? of $ really
At a guess I would say McInnes has a very high % of games played against those he has missed
We need good players available and on the park as often as possible

Happy and safe Christmas CT :christmas_tree: :mother_christmas: .

Doesnt matter how he spells it...for mine as a no 9(and thats his main role) hes behind Smith/Smith/Harry/Hodgson/korosau/Friend/Cook and Radke..which makes him a mid ranked hooker.
Were not going to improve paying big $$ for honest toilers
Mybe 2.0
Really hope one of Liddle or Simpkins becomes ABOVE average in 2021,plus weve got Walters floating around from May
Weve got no back up in the halves, and a makeshift fullback

How many top 10 players do we have in our team right now? He’s a top 10 hooker. I’d argue he’s better than Friend and Hodgson too. Maybe not worth $700k, but he’s better than average that’s for sure.

On a completely unrelated note > Merry christmas to every single one of you <3, I've only been around here for a couple months and this forum has its ugly moments. But it's all good, its all derived from a love of the WT team!!

Hope you're all enjoying your breaks much love

I don't think he's telling the truth here, I'm sure he's burning after giving everything to the club to only have Ben Hunt at more money and less talent take his position off him. It's a smart response to the question though as he can command more money and have a better shot at playing Origin as a dual player, plus not rub his coach the wrong way by complaining.

He’s one of the better hookers in the game, and currently way better than what we’ve got. If only state of origin players are better than him then he’s still pretty good.

He’s exactly the kind of player we need at the club, ideally we don’t need to sign a hooker at all but if the young fellas aren’t kicking on in 2022 then he’s a very good option

I wonder what the story is to Nofa; yes, I realise that he is contracted for 2021 but his contract extension should be all done if the latest Wests Tigers video marketing is up for scrutiny - where Nofa has a prominent spot as the face of the club etc.
Still, why the delay?

Most clubs have a good hooker ...one has 3 currently

Even if Mcinnes was rated the 6th best ..he is still worth the money

The questions for me are these ...do we have time to see if Liddle is completely 100 % fit with no issues with both shoulders and his knee , will he be right come Round 1 2021 ?? I'm not 100% sure

Is Simpkin going to be ready Rd 1 2021 to play a complete role in 2021 ??Rd 1 2022 yes Rd 1 2021 no

Do we want a ready to go Tier 1 hooker who frees up another bench spot for a forward Yes and Yes

It isn't as easy as many think ...but if we lose McInnes and Liddle can't get 80 for 20 plus rounds and Simpkin isn't ready Rd 1 2021 we are at a huge disadvantage come Rd 1 2021

If you have the answer to all these question can you please ring Madge asap ......

If your Liddle or Simpkin you would have to be doubting the confidence the coach has in you. Last year he played an unproven 9 on a swap deal and now they are throwing the sink at a 9 who isn’t his teams top choice.
I know Liddle was injured last year and Simpkin is young... but still

I prefer one hooker who gets 80 and an extra battering ram forward ...just my opinion Avo
