It's becoming more and more clear we need another winger in our squad. Problem is if we sign someone up for this year they'll probably have to stick around next year as well - Corey Oates or Edrick Lee fall into that category, would be good for a season but next year would be excess.

Maybe there's a young winger somewhere we can grab? If Talau is at centre we only have Nofa, AJ and Cini to play wing.

Problem is we knew this last year. Kepaoa should never have been a first choice winger.

I hope those who rubbished the club for attempting to sign Mansour now understand.

We can’t drop AJ, because we have no one else. I’m interested to see how Kei goes on the wing in state cup this week, maybe he’s an option?

I understand that the club was very lucky that we didn't get Mansour - over the hill.

Absolutely and with $ available, we are well placed to pick up a good young outside back if one becomes available.

With our strike rate we’ll likely just sign another Kepaoa so the big teams can make space in their roster.

Laurie, Stefano, Simpkin, Blore, Simpkins suggest out scouting is pretty good. Kepaoa is inexperienced and I feel sorry for him having Leilua inside of him.

AJ has played 7 games... scored 4 tries. He's got plenty to work on but it's ridiculous that people are calling him a dud signing or a waste of a spot.

-facepalm- a winger is not a loss reversing signing.

Yes we need another one, but that is not where we should throw our cash. It's a Facebook signing. Reactionary at best, doesn't address our real problems. Hell we even have Gebbie in the "wings" (another Facebook pleaser I'm sure)

So yes I read the conversation. I disagreed.

60-80 min lock to put JOffa/Twal in front row rotation is where I'd spend my magic money if they were available. Then a half that could buy a repeat set (or forward pay a contract or 2).

They were planned out signings, not players that a club suddenly released mid season.

No excuses this week for AJ, Leilua is in reserve grade.

I agree. He looks like a centre that’s playing wing as a way of easing him into first grade.

We have a good link to the Roosters and that is why we are fortunate to have him. Remember Joey Manu had a rough start to his career but has been an outstanding NRL and NZ centre.

I’m not sure why he’s a protected species while the knives are out for others.

I’ll forgive his defense because of BJ, but the fact is last year he was averaging 3 errors a game and this year we’ve already seen him drop bombs and drop simple passes in 2 games. We need better.

What we need is pretty obvious. The good sides all have a massive barnstorming weapon (Tino, Fifita, papalii, Touponua, Kikau, Brown, Nelson). Gives the halfback a simple outlet when attacks are breaking down or you need yards. Who’s ours?

He is new, learning and nervous. That mix of size, step, power and the left to right pass excites me. I believe he is a right centre but an NRL player should be able to play either side and more than one position. We've made a lot of improvements to coaching so I anticipate that he will improve significantly. We need to stick by our youngsters, each will have a different rate of progression.

And what players are available that could single handedly improve our team? There hasn't been a top player on the market for months. I'm not saying we need to throw top dollar at a winger that would be dumb but we CLEARLY need another winger and being realistic I don't see us signing some top quality lock or half for this season - we have plenty of time to wait though.

On a similar note, are there actually any decent halves out there that we could realistically target?

Jock Madden is not ready from what I can see.
Dearden is super young. Volkman even younger and totally inexperienced. Do not know why Schuster would come anywhere near us if he was on the market.

Cust from Manly?
Would Trindall from Sharks be worth a shot?
Reynolds or is he too pricey?
Is Nikorima able to be pryed from the Warriors?
Wait for it... could a Brooks for Hastings swap solve anything?

That's the extent of my knowledge. Anyone got some insight into the available halves and up and comers?

This is a sick world, no wonder there's so much violence and sexual assault .

Is that THE Ryan O'Hara? Would have thought a former footy player would be the last to take a swipe at a current player.

Yeah, he’s a mate of a mate. The first thing I said when my mate sent it to me is that’s a bit rich for a bloke who did sweet FA when he was with us.

Wasn't sweet ...that is for sure

Re comments on Reynolds and others. The reason us and other clubs are in the mess we are in, is because of overpaid , under performing players signed on long contracts. Because of this we had little money to buy top class players, and some of our buys were ordinary. Good clubs don't release players for no reason, so buy with care. Remember these signings we make are normally 3 yrs or more, and if we choose wrong it will come back to bite us again. We all know we won't be top 4 this year, so it's important for the club not to panic, and use our money wisely in our rebuild, it's a long process.

I'm convinced Reynolds carries injury every week and it shows more when they are losing - fortunately at the moment they are travelling well. South's would not be offering one year only otherwise when 7's are not easily replaced.

Re comments on Reynolds and others. The reason us and other clubs are in the mess we are in, is because of overpaid , under performing players signed on long contracts. We had bad/ long contracts when Pascoe turned up and he said it would never happen again. In 2015.

The rebuild isn't coming.
