Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

2 focus areas for me

1. A backrower - priority order - Angus Crichton, Jayden Sua and Kurt Capewell.

2. Centres and Wingers - ditch Joey and JTJ next year and look for Corey Oates or Daniel Tupou on the wing and centres Kotoni Staggs, Brent Naden, sebastian Kris abd mayby Will hopoate abd pick 2 of those in that order. My other option for centre is to keep Moses Mbye - i think he is doing a fine job when playing centre and also a great back up. If we keep him on 4-500k

Then we make a decision on halves one way or another. Id keep Brooks but if not then bring in Shaun Johnson

The best thing the Tigers could do is bring in Reynolds, move Brooks to a running 6 and move Douhiei to the centres. Recruit Dane Gagai and Corey Oates. It would solve our play making issues and strengthen our outside backs. It’s a simple fix but no one will sign here.

If that’s the case year it down and start again via junior development and young players looking to make a name for themselves.

I’m not sure Jayden Sua and even Kurt Capewel would survive as senior players in our team, certainly not for the contract we’d have to pay them.
I’d look at signing Tom Eisenhuth from the Storm. He is someone who will complement the side, tough and talented. Sua is an all or nothing player and Capewell is most likely not interested.
Angus Critchton about to resign with Roosters.

Him playing backrow was on Madge, not Joe.
When he has been playing middle he has been good, his effort running all over the park in defence alot of the others could learn from. He is one of the few really trying to have a dig.

His defence led to 3 tries, Condon ran straight over the top of him, he is not worth the money he is being paid, hopefully Blore is back this week or next week or Tuillagi or Simpkins get a crack this week, I guess team selections this week may define the Tigers season especially if there are mass changes (whether players dig in or start walking on eggshells). It is beginning to feel like Groundhog Day.

1. Reynolds is a no go. Chronic injury, getting old (i.e. retirement contract) and isn't a stand out at a great team. Red flags everywhere. Did we learn nothing from McQueen?
2. Oates can't even get a run in Brisbane and you think he'll be good for us? Very lazy winger who's often out of position - just what we don't need.

We should go after some hard working, solid players. Jeez Corey Thompson and Paul Momorovski would be nice to have right now. So glad we got rid of two hard working, high effort players for what we have now

He let one try in, besides that he was our best forward. He's been good last few weeks and there's no chance he deserves to be dropped. Plenty of others should go before him

I love the Reynolds talk, we would be 100 to 1 even if our offer was double the next best offer. At thirty odd you don’t go to a club who is on struggle street unless it’s for lifestyle reason...and I can’t see what lifestyle incentives we can offer

Paycheck every fortnight, play limited minutes or games over a season, permission to go home if it's cold at Brookie, criticise the club when you don't get your own way or become an ex-Tiger - oh, and offer to mow the lawn if you don't want to play but still want money. 🙂
Where do I sign up?

We need

- Hard running dynamic 13 with a good pass (no twals)
- The best pair of defensive centres the game has seen
- second rower that defends well and makes meters
- organising 7

2005 anyone?

Would love it. We’d need a super classy goal kicking fullback, a game-breaking 5/8, emerging rep hooker, some big hombres, impactful bench, an attack-minded coach and players with genuine desire and enthusiasm.

I agree pick Adam Reynolds at 7 move Brooks to running 6
Move Douhie to centre with Mmbye and buy a Naden or Coates or even both for wing and look hard at what we do with Tommy and Nofo

fullback Laurie
Wing Naden
Centre Douhie
Centre Mmbye
Wing Oates
five eight Brooks
halfback Adam Reynolds

Canterbury Cup
Nofo
Talau

Not signed
Joey L
James Roberts
Jacob Liddle
Russell Packer

That’s great and all, but you haven’t offered any real solutions. Corey Thompson and Momirovski aren’t coming back.

By your logic, Corey Thompson is on a retirement contract right now.

I've seen multiple people bring this up now, but I just happened to respond to your post, so this isn't a personal shot at you:

In the last five seasons, this is how many games Adam Reynolds has played (not including all five rounds he's played this year🙂

2020 - 23 out of the 23 games that Souths played last year (less games due to COVID)
2019 - 25 out of 27 games
2018 - 24 out of 27 games
2017 - 21 out of 24 games

So not counting this year, in the last four years he's played 93 out of a possible 101 games. He's turning up 92% of the time. He also played all finals games in 2018-2020 that Souths featured in (they missed the finals in 2017,) so he's also there when it matters.

Brooks has played the following in the same period:

2020 - 17 out of 20
2019 - 24 out of 24
2018 - 24 out of 24
2017 - 17 out of 24

Brooks has appeared in 82 out of 92 games - 89% appearance rate

Should we dump Brooks for being injury prone?

EDIT: Sorry I had to update figures as I didn't remove Bye rounds!

Spot on. It’s the narrative South’s are putting out to diminish his worth to other clubs and many have taken the bait, hook line and sinker.

I don't think the other clubs would fall for it. Fans on the other hand.

I didn't say I had solutions but I sure as hell know Reynolds and Oates aren't the answer.
And no I mean I wish we kept him, he was a great clubman

Reynolds doesn't do contact at Souths training and they refuse to offer him more than a year because of it. Bringing up how many games he played in 2017 is frankly irrelevant.

He's not good enough to warrant the risk and even if he was we never get the good outcome of the risk

Apparently that rumour isn’t true and has been confirmed to be a lie.

Doesn’t make sense too, if his injury is so bad they avoid contact at training how does he play so many games without missing any or being rested at the very least.

Defs a south’s ploy to try scare off other clubs from offering longer deals

Joe O .... Did you write the wrong name down ???

He has been great for us this year and yesterday he had 148m , 56 post meters, 4 tackle breaks and 32 tackles with 1 miss... He should be starting every week as he is putting in the effort required for me. Agree with the rest though and would like Simpkin in 14 with game time to keep LIddle on his toes.

He was disgraceful, a miss must only be counted if you touch them, he is not a backrower, madge needs to stop playing props at lock.

Well he's not a backrower, and should never play there again in his life. But as a prioy he's very good

His place is on the interchange bench.

Xavier Coates should be thrown big coin, a baby Folau in terms of skillset..... a big fast athletic winger who can find the line is something we’ve lacked for a while now can’t remember the last winger we had like that

Nathan Brown should be targeted, hard running dynamic forward who’ll give us some grit and go forward and will help create momentum for our younger forwards

Adam Reynolds and it’s a no brainer for me, looking for a club and is exactly the type of player we need who’s also a reliable 90% plus goal kicker too
