Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Reynolds is a must..... can’t see how anyone can even try to justify that we don’t need him

His best attributes and skillset is exactly what our weakness is, an organising 7 who can steer his team around the park and an excellent goal kicker too.

I love Brooks and don’t wanna see him go, been saying it for years that he’s a running 6. Allow him to take some of the pressure off him that he’s been dealing with since his very first game and just tell him to take the line on and maybe take a few kicks here and there when needed and playing with a halfback like Reynolds if our pack does the job he can defs thrive in that role, especially with Laurie lurking around too

Yes Doueihi is a good 6, however I’d much prefer play him centre and give him early ball with his quick hands and tackle breaking abilities where he’ll equally thrive

I love the Reynolds talk, we would be 100 to 1 even if our offer was double the next best offer. At thirty odd you don’t go to a club who is on struggle street unless it’s for lifestyle reason...and I can’t see what lifestyle incentives we can offer

Maybe he doesn’t wanna move his family to QLD, where both the Broncos and Cowboys are located

I know Adam’s family, and something I can tell you is that they’re very tight knit and he also has a young family

Being located in Sydney, cashed up and also might enjoy the challenge of trying to get this team in the 8 would be attractive and we also do have a good young core coming up so I can see it being appealing.... also has history with Madge winning his first and only premiership with him, there’s a bond that doesn’t go away quickly

He might also help attract a few other quality players as well.

Here's what I don't get.
I'm not a coach but even I can see that other teams are all able to manoeuvre situations against us that create a one on one with our outside backs with a heap of space and then exploit it with pace or a kick.
Have they not worked on preventing this at training?
Our kick defence in particular is diabolically bad.
Should I send Madge a video of Penrith's defence so he can work out why that doesn't happen to them, and why on the rare occasion that it does there's always 2 or 3 other players there to cover?

All valid.

Nofa was grounded multiple times all season on kicks and did not jump...Payten saw it and they scored. Nofa has been coming in randomly / not in synch with his center, Payten saw it and scored.

What we 'don't know' though is whether Madge addressed this. If he hammered Nofa for weeks about how to defend / jump properly...then it is all on Nofa.

If Madge never said a thing, then he is the one to blame as it is his job to fix / improve them.

We don't know.

Payten knew the deficiencies in Nofa defence and came out with a game plan on how to attack the Tigers down Nofa's wing .. !! They stuck to the game plan in the 1st half .. and it worked , well done Mr Payten .. !!

It was fixed in the second half , which is to say then that , it wasn’t a coaching issue , but rather a “make a big play for the highlight reel “issue ie. going for the intercept .

Mate I hope your right, but we have a very poor conversion rate in the recruitment stakes, a few recent knock backs come to mind...JAC, Trell, Lomax,Elliott . Anyway I doubt he will leave Souths, probably agree to a one year deal for the books and something else unofficially.....maybe some acting gigs with the gladiator

Blog with Hoops: Insipid, soulless Tigers must cut Brooks loose and target Reynolds
By James Hooper

"Is the club devoid of soul? It looked like it on Sunday."

Hate to ever agree with Hoops, but, just sayin'............

Yep me too.
For anyone dare saying that Reynolds isn’t worth it, just watch him this year. It’s chalk and cheese.

He wouldn’t play like that at the tigers

I don't think his organising skills would suddenly disappear, same goes for his kicking. Sure he'll be under a little more pressure but he's shown he can handle it in his career.

Yeah but going from Latrell, Walker, Cook, Gagai, Su’A

To...Nofaluama, Talau, BJ, Laurie, Roberts. What a downgrade

Of course it's a downgrade but we've got players who can score points too, if Reynolds can get them organised and help us build pressure with footy IQ there's no reason they can't do alright. We will probably have new centres anyway

End of the day it's pointless worrying about that stuff because our defence sucks and it's the #1 issue right now. Signing Reynolds is an upgrade but he ain't fixing that

To get them organised you need players with footy smarts. Nofa for years has proven he can not defend and he rarely competes for the ball in the air. Another 4 years...yikes. James Roberts looks a foot off the pace and BJ is dumb. I actually think Talau is better as a winger and was OK yesterday.

Agree on the 2nd part 100%

In lost as to how yesterday was Brooks fault and how Reynolds will fix it. Our defence on the right let in lots of tries so the half on the left is the problem despite setting up multiple tries

We have alot bigger issues than Reynolds/Brooks/Hastings.

Our whole backline needs an overhaul.

We need some recruits in the backs before any decent half will even look at us.

Next year:
BJ will be gone.
JTJ will struggle to get the option taken up
We are a winger short at least (they won’t cut Nofa)
AD defence is terrible
Liddle at hooker isn’t working
We are a backrower short
We lack a lock
We also lack another 13 players on top of this capable of playing NRL in the squad.

Reynolds is a great halfback and the best available but we need the cash to fix some major systemic shortfalls before cutting Brooks free and replacing him with a more expensive half option.

Just commenting on the Reynolds for WT speculation, I don't pretend to know the intricacies of judging the merit (or otherwise) of a player. But, when Greg Alexander and Cooper Cronk (as I watched on Fox last week) suggest he is better off to stay at Souths as they doubt his ability at 7 in another club and structure, that's enough for me to hope it never happens.

Reynolds seems to have a sense of entitlement at Souths. It's up to him to change their minds on what contract he is worth. A big, "No thank you", from me as a WT member.

I am not convinced. Another player at the back end of his career whose heart lies elsewhere. Goes from playing for something close to his heart to playing for a paycheck. When you come to the Tigers it is unlikely that you will playing for the premiership any time soon.

We need

- Hard running dynamic 13 with a good pass (no twals)
- The best pair of defensive centres the game has seen
- second rower that defends well and makes meters
- organising 7

True but think the team and AD would prefer an organising half that is not brooks.

And a partridge in a pear tree

With Packer being off contract for 2022, there's somewhere around $700k/$800k we can spend on a second rower/prop (for 2022) right now.

Replacing brooks for Reynolds is an option sure, but why aren't we using that money mentioned above and negotiating with a new player right now? We could have signed that contract anytime in the last five months, since November last year! (Or maybe December after covid.)

BJ's likely on near half a million, maybe a little more, and he's got buckley's of being extended next year. We could sign a decent centre right now for next year, and say to BJ and Jet to battle out and we may offer a contract to the one who plays better. Let's see if that puts a rocket up them.

I know there's a dozen issues with our side, and Madge needs time because our focus is on youth and they need time to grow and develop together, but we also need positive structures around them whilst they're developing. Isn't that probably the biggest reason Brooks has had trouble, because he's practically never had a half decent ream around him (in the halves, in the forwards...)?

We should be signing players now, players like Seb Kris, Sam Williams (maybe?), Christian Crichton, William Kennedy, Tyrone Peachey (for lock), Dale Finucane, Nicho Hynes, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Nathan Brown (not as a marque, but if we signed a better player he'd be a good second player to buy), Jaydn Su'a, Egan Butcher... - they are only players Zero Tackle had as off contract next year (though I think some have already signed).

If there's any quality at the Sharks or Broncos, or Cows or Dogs, now's the time to make them an offer and their clubs may let them out.

Bottom line - we need some first grade standard centres/wingers now. Go get em WT.
