Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Looking at 2022...one big issue we will have is there are not a lot of elite players have left.

Big Angus would have been a perfect 13 for us and has the Madge connection, but he has just signed on again at Easts.

Unless we can pry someone out of a contract, there really is not much available that we can realistically target. (Katoni Staggs etc are not coming to us)

I don’t see the point in trying to attract players? We can’t seem to make good use of the players we have?

We need better, proven, consistent players. Gambles like BJ and JTJ just aren't paying off. In hindsight, letting Momo go was diabolical but if we didn't, Laurie wouldn't be at the back right now.

It will be another cleanout this year but WT (with a fistful of money) needs to continue upgrading playing stocks and bringing through youngsters with upside ie. Simpkin.

You're right - they aren't working but what else was available that was realistically getteable. We'd all like Sorbent but sometimes there's only Black n Gold on the shelf (Dad joke intended - old crusty wests fans don't be offended I couldn't think of a brand with white).

Problem is until we consistently attract the Sorbent, we are stuck with Black & Gold at the wrong end of the ladder.

That's right and we need to stick to the Sorbent so it hangs around.

if the naysayers are watching this WE NEED REYNOLDS

Naysayers ? That’s an interesting way to look at it . I saw a guy get to his kicks , and shift early to benji and Lattrell .
I didn’t see anything worth 1 mil a year . Which is what it would cost .

Would it? $1.4 mill over 2 years is the current offer.

He'd be worth that.

What do we do with brooks ? Offload to the boys ? Also what do we do in 2024 ? Is madden gonna wait ? Is there a junior coming through ? Not saying I hate it . Just there’s a lot to sort out , the future 3 years from now the most important . Plus you all know I’m pro brooks .

The question is not what do we do with Brooks but what does Brooks do for us
Likely answer : More of the same
We need to be looking for better
Wether that's 2,3 years or 4 years it doesn't matter
I like Brooks loyalty but it has not helped us
2 years from a quality player like Reynolds is better than 4 more years of Brooks
Aren't we all sick of waiting
I'll be in a retirement home soon
Brooks really needs to show more over the next 6 weeks
If he can't then we must go hard for Reynolds

Unfortunately after last night's performance I think souths will have to re sign Reynolds or the supporters will march just like they did to get back in to the league

Did I just see Reynolds going down to Rusty's farm

Look at the players we have lost and their calibre to understand the issue. But it is easier to blame Brooks.

It's hard to blame anyone else for Brooks performances except himself?

Exactly, we hear this all the time, MBye over paid and useless, Packer lazy reserve grader, AJ dud signing, BJ fat and lazy, Tommy Talau disappointing send him packing, MCK nuffie, Twal, Plodder, Tamau retiring on us, Joffa not we need, but Brooks, it’s not his fault, give me a break. Why does he get a free pass when everyone else needs to be moved or held to account

I get why people want him to do well, but come on enough already. It was Farahs fault, no it was be benjis fault , its the coach, it’s the forwards, now it’s the backs. He has come out and said it’s his team. He’s the main man. If he can’t deliver time to cut our losses.

You are ranting and not making any valid arguments.

I thought I made heaps of valid points. Brooks didn’t do well because

1. Farah stifled him and service was too slow
2. Benji was the dominant half and Brooks was too shy

He’s been through 3 coaches and no finals with any.
Best forward pack we have had in years.

My main point is no more excuses. He is our guy. , he is the man in control. Step up Brooks and seize your opportunity or it’s time to move on. I watched the game with 10 blokes who go for 3 different teams and not one of them would have Brooks in their team.

Mitchell Pearce played 10 years at the Roosters and most of that time was NSW's half. Roosters punted him for Cronk and won two GF's in a row. That's the difference a champion half makes. Reynolds is next level to Brooks.

This x 100

If that argument is supposed to support Reynolds it's an odd analogy considering that after 10 years at South's they are prepared to let Reynolds go - like the Roosters did with Pearce! Just sayin.

You don't get it, do you?

Yeah I get it you have Brooks at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to half backs.
I guess we will never know what impact Cronk would have had in a team with no rep players like Brooks has, because he never played in one
As for the other two both served their clubs well and played a role in securing premierships with great players around
them.

You saw how well Benji played last night outside Reynolds. He looked like a rep player. We haven’t seen that since 2011. Go back through, let’s say, the last ten premiers. The common thread is Cronk, Maloney, Munster, Thurston, Keary, dominant halves who know how to play football. You can interchange players around them but as long as one of those players is in the team you’re going to win more than you lose.

See I think Benji played just as well with us on numerous occasions last year too, along with the errors he has in his game that are still there, but were intolerable for some. Our problem wasn't scoring last year it was defending and playing for 80mins.
I agree with you that a great half back is an assest to any team who wants success,il especially the ones you have named, but can't think of one successful team that didn't have a whole lot of quality players around their halfback to make that success possible. At the same time I'm not making excuses for Brooks deficiencies as a player - just don't think he is soley responsible for the position we are in - ( and or our recruitment choices ) - and we will need more players to significantly improve, and add a few to break the cycle of underachieving - with or without Brooks.
A big day for him tomorrow...and no doubt the the focus will be well and truly on him.

Yep, fingers crossed for tomorrow. Let's hope with a few "easier" games the next few rounds we get a chance to gel and get some combinations going.

I don't reckon souths next week is gonna be too easy. I'm expecting a knock down, drag out fight. Team will be fired up to go toe to toe with benji.

we will get flogged by souths by 30 at least I reckon

South will put 50 on us.

100

in the first half

Hahahahaha. The Wests Tigers are just as likely to come out and have a blinder this week.

Funniest post this year

I tend to agree. Our roster this year is better than last years, and last years was better than the one before that. Yet our performances have declined. Our roster isn't anywhere near top 4 obviously, but it shouldn't be playing like it is. As I and so many others have said, something is very very wrong and changing the cattle won't work. It hasn't this year.

You really think JL, TT, Nofa, Kepoa, and Jtj are good enough to compete against the top 8 sides ? And in CC Hoffman and Cini ? The forwards and halves are ok, so is Laurie, but until we get decent backs don't expect anything more then whats been dished up.

I think Cini has something. He's been hard to tackle, has enough speed and plays with a natural aggression that would make him a solid first grader.

If they're no good, why did we sign them? It's not a coincidence that JL and JTJ are playing their worst football under the same coach. I am absolutely convinced our primary issue is coaching. We've conceded on average 32 points per game over the past 15 rounds.

The people that will have coin next year are:

Us, Bulldogs and Sharks that I can think of on top of my head..

so each one of these teams have 1-2M to spend on players, which brings me to the question... who do you target and who wants to live in Western Sydney when you have the opportunity to live in the Shire?

Bearing in mind to the people that reply - I live in Darwin , NT, so I would prefer to live in the Shire with them beautiful beaches!

I think if he has to keep telling the players to tackle, pass and run, then it’s the players who are disconnected.
That first half of last game was atrocious and riddled with errors from some senior players to boot.
It’s not good enough and far too easy to lay the lack of effort on the coach.
