We definitely need a winger and a centre or two possibly. Maybe they use guys from within the club but surely we throw cash money at Coates!

"Reportedly" Broncos have offered coates 3 years $1.5m and titans 3 years $1.7m

A bargain for a quality player..

So with Nofoaluma moving across the other side of the field, what are people's thoughts on Ferguson for a wing position
I think he would be a good signing for 2 years

We've had worse.
However, I'm hoping Edene Gebbie comes good.
Had minor surgery on his knee when he got here but should be on the field soon.
A real excitement machine.

Does he play right wing ?

We should come in at 1.85mil, but even that may not be enough. We definitely don't have anyone like him coming through the ranks. Our promising outside backs are mostly Corey Thompson clones. There's no one with size and pace

Too much money for Coates. He’s a good player, but teams have started to figure him out and there are still a few gaps in his game.

At the moment he's just mostly an athlete - once he learns his trade he'll be top quality. Someone like Bellamy would make him a super start

I'm truly shattered for the team...
Can only imagine how heartbroken Madge and the boys would be.

Or they may use it as motivation and a positive that they can compete IF they put in the effort and could come out stronger in the future.

Hope so @mikey.
The team were pretty much relentless in persistence for the whole 80. It's a young playing group in all actuality, so they need to learn how to grow from every defeat.

I think they'll be filthy they lost but filthy in a good way. If nothing else they know they're capable of matching it with any team in the comp if they play to their potential.

Hopefully this might be a turning point for the season.

After seeing Zac Cini play in the NSW cup in the fullback position I’d be more than willing to give him the an opportunity to lock down the wing position for WT, his game stats at fullback show he deserves it.

I wouldn't. He'll be torn apart defensively in FG.

Yeah that's my worry with him. He's playing fullback not doing much tackling in reserves. He's played well but defending against some of those big wingers might be difficult for him. You never know though

Is there a reason we have been so quiet in the player market recently?
I assume there is cap room.
Many other teams are making moves.
Are we targeting specific players or are we being over looked?
It's pretty clear we need some upgrades/depth.

I would assume waiting for the right type of player at the right price. There's definitely a need for outside backs and an edge backrower. We have plenty of depth at Prop, hooker options seem set, full back set and for the most part for now I'd say halves are set.

We will never get the right type of player for the right price when other teams are trumping our offer over or under the table
We must pay overs for one or two players
Players like Brandon Smith and Adam Reynolds
Get those two and others will follow as other players will start to see that we are building a good team
These two players would be draw cards

It didn't work out that way when we signed Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye.

The key is not so much how much you pay but who you pay it to
Now would you rather pay say $500,000 For Hastings or Say $800,000 for Brandon Smith
Brandon Smith I believe would be a far superior player in the Nrl
Hastings could be a flop
$300,000 cheaper but what is the point of saving $300,000 if he is useless
With Brandon, we can all see what we are getting
A player who likes to get his hands dirty down in the trenches

Who's talking $500k for Hastings?

It's a hypothetical?

Oh right. You could have made it realistic then. $800 for the cheese and $250 for Hastings maybe.

You're delusional if you think Hastings would come to us for less than 450k

Really? What would he be on there?

According to reports he’s on $1m per season at Wigan.

Lachlan Ilias' contract is up for renewal from what I read at Souths. Rather than signing Hastings, I'd bring Ilias back to WTs. Last time I watched him he was very good.

is he one of our juniors?
What’s his story?

Yeah Paws mentioned in another thread he was. However the fact his manager is one B. Anasta doesn’t help his chances in coming back to us I would think :|

Walters unlikely to be here so might be worth looking at as a replacement. Anasta could then get him an strapping and Gatorade sponsor ?

Isn't one of the main reasons South's are prepared to lose Reynolds because they have Illias and Blake Taffe coming through and want to retain them

But if he’s coming off contract as someone mentioned he’s a possibility.
I understand your point though. Wouldn’t be surprised if south’s Renolds contract saga will go the same way as Cody walker’s where they can justify a lesser cap price

Story today quoting Thurston selling the Cowboys to entice Reynolds up there, if JT thinks he is a worth signing that is good enough for me, sign him up Wests Tigers

There’s a try scored last week by Mounties close to the line . Watch that and tell me , he’s first grade material defensively. Not saying he will never get there . But he’s not there today .

Contrary to many people’s beliefs , defensive is as important , and IMO way more important , than attack . The last 6 weeks should be exhibit A for this fact .

Will pass my judgment/assessment on Zac’s ability to make it in FG until he gets to make a decent go of it.

At he end of the day, lm just going off the good form his clearly showing in NSW Cup.

After all isn’t that the whole idea of having a reserve grade?, especially when you clearly have underperforming FG on the edges.

Despite putting in their best performance in a year on Thursday night, it seems even the biggest stars at the Broncos are not safe.

The Australian’s Brent Read told Triple M on Saturday that there’s set to be some “big changes” at Red Hill.

“There’s been some whispers around in the last couple of weeks that there’s about to be some big changes at the Broncos. There’s been some agents that have been told ‘just hold fire, we’re going to make a call in the next couple of weeks on what we do and who we move’,” he saud.

“I expect there’ll some guys to be tapped on the shoulder potentially in the next week or two at the Broncos.”

Read believes Brisbane’s starstudded forward pack are in the firing line as the Broncos try to find money to throw at Kotoni Staggs and up their chase for South Sydney’s Adam Reynolds.

“They’re very stacked in the middle of the field. They’ve got about $3 million in Payne Haas, **Tevita Pangai Jnr**, Matt Lodge and Thomas Flegler,” he said.

“They tried to move Lodge in the off-season, they weren’t able to do it but I suspect one of those guys will be on the move because they need to free up cash, not only to keep Kotoni Staggs but I suspect to step up that move for Adam Reynolds in the coming weeks

Tavita would be my pick
Probably good mates with Ofahengaue
Could possibly help us retain Simpkin and Simpkins
We could end up having a Qld and Indigenous flavour to our team

Imagine this

Musgrove
Simpkin
Stefano
TPJ
Garner
Ofahengaue

LJ
Blore
Amone
Simpkins
Tamou
Mikaele
Liddle

It would be the strongest forward rotation in the competition

With Laurie at the back and Doueihi in the halves we are starting to look very strong and I think the game against souths shows what we are capable of if we can play consistently
Add TPJ and a new Centre and Wing with speed and we will have our team

TPJ reminds me too much of Joey Leilua. Can do some brilliance but loses his head way too often and more often than not does more harm than good. Could be good off the bench but he'd be in decent coin.... there's also plenty of off field drama with him too.
