He played mostly fullback in 2019 in Queensland cup. He can definitely play there although he can play wing too.

One thing I find interesting is that Trent Merrin retired yesterday and what a nice gesture of forfeiting 350k just for the love of the club.......

Please, No way a player that is finishing up just walks past 350k without some kind of future job / payment coming.. That's a lot of money in anyone's terms..

Re Trent Merrin... I agree, but I can also see it the other way.

When you see Simon O'dwyer, Alex Mckinnon, Jarred McCracken and Taniela Tuiaki. You get a physical sense of how limited league players can be. If you have a mortgage to pay and other obligations well I can see you playing on. If you don't and you start thinking "well I might be fired" or worse "I could be in a wheelchair", I get why you might pull out. I recently knocked back about +40K because I needed to spend time with the family, while I miss that income, no regrets and I am not facing a wheelchair like Trent may be.

I suspect Trent is now in the category of Arron Woods, Tau Pau and a few other big forwards. The games fast pace is too fast for their size. I am kind of surprised he did not see the year out, I believe the St George coaching staff would have wanted him there for the year. But in this ruleset he has gone from an A list to a C list forward.

Ofcourse it could be shenanigans. With the Saints explaining that they need the extra cap space and they will have a coaching job ready if he quits now. I don't begrudge them this, heck with how Easts/Storm/etc are roarting the cap I am glad to see the Saints as underdog do well (and I hate their guts).

Money is probably not a huge issue for Trent, his mrs. would have earnt a bit over the years as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he moved over to broadcasting, he is very well liked in the league community and has always been a bit of an entertainer.

That is all true and what is also true is Flanagan,Allan and Hetherington are 3 players that some of our supporters on here were insisting are guns and we should get them to our club.Like everybody else i have my preferences and dislikes but i am quite happy to leave it up our current recruitment team,in the long run they will do a better job than the rest of us combined

But yeah they had an opportunity to clear the deck and start from scratch, but just put themselves back in the same position they were in before.
Burton is going to be an out and out superstar, but I think the Fox's best games are now behind him, can't see those two solving the issues they have at the moment.

Burton and JAC are great signings to be fair but there were never gonna do good this year. Terrible squad and terrible coach.

much prefer our approach. picking out elite talent that is stuck behind system players and relying on our systems to get them to fill out their potential. Stefano, Laurie and Simpkin have already proven their pedigree, players like Kei, Simpkins, Amone, Hoffman and Tuilagi will do similar in future.

There is a thread on each of those players in the kennel lol and they are going ballistic. They want Flanagan dropped, they think Cotric has been a dud and Waddell and Hetherington shouldn’t be playing first grade. Allan definitely isn’t a fullback. These are traditional tiger signings and I’m so glad we didn’t take any of them.
