Ben Hunt out for a month....

That Mbye deal looking half decent them now?

Oh when the saints... go marching in....

Wasn't the deadline today ??
They have most likely upgraded internally and forgot to update Members and fans as thats how they do business now.. The communication to us fans is just not acceptable anymore and I personally don't see things changing unless changes are done from the top down.

You're a fan mate (customer) - Not the major sponsor...
Seriously...

Fans keep this business alive and not saying I am but if you think the communication has not dropped off this last year you are kidding yourself. SERIOUSLY ... I am entitled to my thoughts

The good thing for Laurie is he is not a big unit so fingers crossed he can come back early next year.. He was having a outstanding year for a rookie and he will only get better. Excellent pick up for the club.

What a stupid thing to say ? sport is nothing without fans. Fan revolts literally changed a billon dollar expansion league for the soccer earlier this year.

So who is the player to be upgraded to our squad?

With so many games on that there won't be any announcements today. Would always be tomorrow, after the round is over, so we won't know even if we signed someone from outside yet

Not likely to be tomorrow either with the two evening games as well.

Depending on the teams involved. If we signed someone from a club not playing tomorrow we could announce it.

If we were just promoting someone why not announce it today?

I don't think there will be much fanfare for this announcement.

You’ve got the inside word?

There hasn’t been any noise other than Panthers signing TPJ and Melbourne signing Tepai Morora in regards to the rest of the league finalising their squads.

I am expecting it to be an internal upgrade, I would expect Tuilagi

That would be a disaster and massive insult to everyone at the club (other than Kelma).

It says there's not a single player of any age that wants to join us.

There is not a lot around atm.

That's just not true and a massive copout. There's hundreds of players potentially available. We'd be far better off promoting Etu Lui, Israel Ogden or evn Logen Dillion given Laurie is out. Get them in the bubble asap!

Or target a star from another clubs Flegg squad. They're not playing for them, so being released to an NRL deal would be highly probable. We've got to be exploring all avenues. If they wont do it give me a job! Sure the kids aren't match fit but there's more long term value getting them training with the nrl squad now and this will help us next season, if not sooner. Promoting Tuilagi, Cooper etc achieves absolutley nothing and is completely pointless.

Such a good suggestion. We have talent that we can bring through from Flegg who actually have shown they want to win and do anything to be part of the club. All this rubbish that we'd be throwing them to the wolves etc. You either step up and learn or maybe you can't cut it - only one way to find out.

In reality, yes they will have had only half a season in 2 years (some of them 1.5 seasons from 2019) but they will be 22 next year - get them in the squad and get them training early if not for 2021 but for 2022.

Bulldogs and Broncos (Cowboys and Warriors also to a degree) are the template of what a team lacking necessary leadership looks like - and we're in the same boat. Atleast there are some world class players currently in or being added to their squads. We don't have this and depending on youth only decreases our ability to build a competitive enough team for the NRL.

It's why it's so easy for those teams to collectively collapse as they ultimately can't handle the demands of it and there's not enough experience to lead them out of trouble or model the correct behaviour.
There's also not enough composure, confidence and belief within the team.
Like others have pointed out, it helps form a unhealthy performance culture - with not many capable of distributing accountability in the side - and a losing culture. Can you imagine the Storm without the Bromwich brothers, Welch, Finucane, Kaufusi and NAS? It'd basically be sunshine Coast falcons. Or Roosters without JWH, Taukeiaho, Crichton or Tedesco.

Edit:Shouldn't be just saying them, as we have the exact same problem.

Yes ok - take your point but I would prefer not to give up. History shows that comps can be won from building from within and not just recruiting superstars. Some team called Manchester United was heavily criticised when they were told they would never win a comp with their juniors and without recruiting superstars from outside the club. They went onto to win many championships - average age 21 & 22 and built a dynasty!

Whilst I acknowledge this is very different, we shouldn't be waiting around hoping we can attract big name players before we promote or provide some opportunity to some of the most promising juniors around their early 20s. If anything they might inspire the older ones we have and gel into a finals if not winning combination.

It's not like we have much choice at the moment. A losing culture should never be an excuse for any promising youngsters.

If they have that attitude, they're not going to make it anyway.

Cheers for the response @Thaiger.
My main concern is how the comp has evolved over the past two seasons and knowing replacing low level/quality players with mid level isn't going to bring us any closer to success.
The only current team solely dependent on their juniors is the Broncos with the last being the Knights, and we all witnessed what this did for the club/team through their 2015-2017 results.
Can the supporters handle this? Or could the club withstand this?
We're already aware of the NRLs current expansion plans and the conversations surrounding axing a Sydney team.

Not sure of what's going wrong but the whole recruitment discussions about lost lines of communications from all involved, tells me the team aren't the only ones who aren't on the same page.
I think we change tact with our recruitment process as it's not sustainable and more harmful, with what our current course of action entails. Every team in the comp has its own constraints but the strength of their succession plans ensure they're not limited by them. Well the better club's anyway.
I honestly do not wish to see a repeat of this year but it looks like there's some refusal(from management) to directly acknowledge mistakes. We look unable to resolve or cumbersome to avert any crisis and confront performance problems.
But the annoying thing for me is noticing that the advancement of the team, and our players, is totally symptomatic of our management systems. So until we make changes it's never going to change direction.

Can we afford B Smith and Manu?
Say we pay 900k a year each for both. Do we think it can be done? If so honestly what are they waiting for!!

Not a problem we’ll have to worry about unfortunately.

reported on Triple M that Dylan Brown, Clint Gutherson, Reed Mahoney, Ryan Matterson, Isaiah Papali’i and Junior Paulo are all free to talk with NRL rivals as of November 1 as they head into the final years of their deals in 2022.

“I think they have some rocky waters ahead and some turbulent times because they have a really tough draw coming up,” Read said on Triple M.

“They have got Souths this week and are in real danger of slipping out of the top four. Brad Arthur is under pressure. They desperately need Mitchell Moses back and I’m not sure he is back any time soon.

“Beyond that they have the November 1 deadline looming, which is when players enter the final year of their deals and can begin talking to other clubs formally about contracts.

“Look at this list of Parramatta players who are available to talk to other clubs from November 1, Dylan Brown, Clint Gutherson, Reed Mahoney, Ryan Matterson, Isaiah Papali’i and Junior Paulo.

“You are talking there I would say conservatively about $4 million worth of talent, that if Parramatta cannot lock them down in the next 10 or 11 weeks will suddenly be on the radar of a whole lot of other clubs.

“This next two or three months for Parramatta is huge for the coach and a lot of the players and huge for the club.”

Read pointed out that Brown has a player option in his favour for 2022, but the other stars will be hot commodities and will be in line for pay rises making it hard for the Eels to keep them all.

“Dylan Brown has an option in his contract so it will be up to Dylan Brown whether he takes it up for 2023,” Read said.

“But his manager has already sent his name around on a list to see whether he can generate some interest in Dylan Brown.

“Gutherson is an interesting one. Last time Gutherson did his deal with Parramatta it was played out quite publicly in the media.

“Things got a bit tense between Parramatta and Gutherson’s agent Sam Ayoub and in the end I think he took a little less to stay.

“I’m not sure he will do that again this time or at least I am not sure Sam will want him to.

“That is one that I think could become quite protracted and get quite messy.

“Read Mahoney just did a new deal through to the end of next year and his value has gone up.

“Papali’i they got for an absolute bargain. He is on nothing this year and nothing next year. Beyond that he is now a premier back-rower in the competition.

“It is going to be a struggle and they are going to have a battle on their hands to keep them all.”

Need to go all out for Manu.
Give him fb, Laurie to half, Adam 6, Brooks 9.

Gould was saying that Laurie's best position is 6. So this sounds good but I'll have Adam at centre brooks at 7. Also putting Hastings at 13 will give you a ball playing lock.

I agree with Gould assessment on Laurie.

I don't think he is ready for 6 yet.

How does he get ready for six if all that he has been playing for Wests Tigers is 1?

There is this new innovation called training, though I'm not sure if our team does that yet. He will also get time in the 6 during trials like he did this year, to show if he is ready.

Cochise, do they actually train together? I have my doubts

Fibia? Is that the liar bone?
:grinning: :grinning: :grinning:
Its either the Tibia or Fibula he has fractured.
They're both parallel to each other from the knee down to the top of the ancle with the Fibula being
much thinner than the Tibia.

How is it...
Start a revolt - Because you weren't informed of the 30th player to be added to the Tigers roster by the deadline (That we don't actually know if is still the deadline)
We fans - We don't need to be overly informed of such menial decisions...

How did the club ever let Corey Thompson go?
His enthusiasm has been sadly missed and every time I watch the Gold Coast play I shake my head in disbelief
