Sydney Roosters strike centre Joseph Manu is set to receive some big contract offers with his current deal expiring at the end of 2022.
Having been linked to a move with the All Blacks, Manu could make the switch to rugby union or demand near $1 million per season from rival clubs in the NRL.
As he’s able to start negotiating with rival clubs come November 1 this year, SEN host Joel Caine believes the Wests Tigers should make him an offer he can’t refuse.
He discussed Manu’s market value with Bryan Fletcher on SEN 1170 Drive.
Caine: “What’s Joey Manu going to get in the open market? Is it $1 million bucks?”
Fletcher: “It’s $1 million dollars”
Caine: “If I’m the Wests Tigers, they need a star, you can’t just plod away, you need a star.”
“I would say, ‘Listen Joey, here’s $1.3 (million)’, it’s ridiculous money and it doesn’t add up in any world.
“However, how easily can you waste that extra $300k on a bit-part player anyway?”
Fletcher: “They tried that with Latrell, they offered him $1.2 (million) and he knocked them back.”
Caine: “We’ve seen it with Turbo (Tom Trbojevic) with Manly, they can shift the fortune.”
“You can have all these workers and players but you need to have the star.”
While the Roosters want to hold on to the 25-year-old, he will reportedly receive bids from the Warriors, Broncos and Titans who want to make him the competition’s next million-dollar player.
I agree. Manu's a player you sign and work out what position he plays later. I'd personally have him at 6. the amount of space he'd open up for Laurie out the back would be sensational.
1 Laurie
3 Doueihi
6 Manu
7 Brooks/Hastings
9 Simpkin
He would have to play 6
