Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

CLUB’S SUSPECT OFFERS

Which high-profile club official has set tongues wagging around the great game of rugba league by offering up some “extras” when it comes to player contract negotiations?

What’s equally as dangerous is the club in question has form in the department of being previously pinched for salary cap rorting.

Brett Read on Triple M this afternoon and backing up @THE_POM confirming Mbye to Dragons is a done deal.

Did we get Lomax in the deal?

I think the deal is we get rid of Mbye and get 400k back.

Dogs, Eels, Sharks and Melb have all been done for cap rorts in the last 10yrs so my guess is it's one of them.

Harley Smith-Shields is playing tonight - Does anyone know if we should be watching him closely tonight or not?

Looked hungry, fast and dangerous - we need all attributes

Yeah he is a gun. Will be good for us if we get him over the line

Nuffie can play reserve grade next season …

Can he? Let’s see how that works out.

If he was playing at another club with this years form that’s exactly where he would be playing !

His usual anti-Tigers spray prior to that is just clutching at straws. He has a dig at the club for letting Brett Hodgson go, as if we should have blocked him from getting a first grade coaching job in Super League. It would be a mean-spirited club that does that.

It has to be the Sharks or Dogs.

Eels haven’t snagged anyone of note last 2yrs & aren’t active on big names.

Storm have been losing players that under the dodge ways would’ve kept.

How many?

Reminds me of the old Hale and Pace routine.

Well, we have wondered how the Dogs have landed so many high profile signings recently.

Still could be the eels as they currently have a few coming off contract and most likely can’t fit them in moving forward

Moses Mbye gone for 2022.
Agreement between Tigers & Dragons has been reached. The club will paying 390k for next season.

390k a good deal from wests tigers end well done club

How can you congratulate the club for wasting $400k from its 2022 cap…if I wasted $400,000😱f my company’s money I wouldn’t be getting pats on the back, I’d be in the Centrelink line

$390K wasted is better than wasting $850K next year on a bench player.

I don’t disagree…..I’m glad Mbye, our highest paid dud is outta here….Pascoe should be accountable for our cap mess since the Cleary days….

To be fair, Pascoe did put measures in place to remedy the coach having lock and stock say over recruitment by appointing Hartigan. Cleary prompted the club to change their approach on recruitment.

Does anyone know much about a guy called Tony Sukkar from our 2021 Balmain Tigers Harold Matthews squad.
Souths forum are talking him up and wondering if he is under contract or not and if he goes ok.

Front rower and captain of the Balmain Harold Matts this year, so only very young still. Souths juniors are middle of the road, kind of like Balmain this year so it wouldn't surprise me if they made a play for him.

Looks like a different middle forward of our Balmain team is lost to South’s for next year.

https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2021/08/12/rabbitohs-sign-five-young-prospects-on-extended-contracts/

Jaxson Rahme, 17, is a middle forward that has committed to the Rabbitohs for the next two seasons. Rahme won the most valuable player award for NSW Combined Catholic Colleges this year and is in line for selection in the Australian Schoolboys squad to be announced later this year. He joins the Rabbitohs from the Balmain Tigers junior representative system, also having captained his school side, Holy Cross Ryde, in the 2021 GIO Schoolboys Cup.

Sad to lose him but you can't keep them all. Hopefully serve chosen the right props and losing Rahme and Tuifua won't come back to bite us. Lots of good prospects to choose from.

Sukkar is a backrower, seemed to be determined and work hard at that age group but nothing mind blowing

I was impressed with the amount of emphasis the Bunnies put in their pathways programs, players obtained from a satellite program in south East Queensland and others nurtured through their local programs. Hopefully this is what is being created recently for the Wests Tigers.
Wonder how much influence Madge had of Souths development programs when he was there 10 years ago.

The rest of Reynolds', Packer's and some of Mbye's (if he goes to the Dragons) money will come off the books. Joey Leilua off the books too.

The money is most definitely there for Manu on a long-term deal.

You know what, I'd rather overpay for a superstar than overpay for mediocre players. It's all well and good to snap up young talents like the Stefanos, Blores, Lauries etc. Shrewed pick ups like Maumalo below value are good too. But at some point you need a marquee and our strategy in recruit otherwise is what lets us go over the top for elite talent.

This is a genuine question. Is Manu a genuine marquee? I watch a lot of league and he’s never stood out to me from a commentators bias point of view if that makes sense. I can’t remember a time where they sit and rant for 5 minutes about him like other players like cleary, tedesco ado carr, cronk etc.

To me a million gets you teddy, turbo or Mitchell. Hunt and Taylor level doesn’t interest me for a million stuffing your cap for 4 years.

Would love him in tigers colours obviously.

Manu is absolutely genuine marquee.
His game the other week was sublime - not sure if you saw it. He was everywhere.
He oozes class.
