CLUB’S SUSPECT OFFERS

Which high-profile club official has set tongues wagging around the great game of rugba league by offering up some “extras” when it comes to player contract negotiations?

What’s equally as dangerous is the club in question has form in the department of being previously pinched for salary cap rorting.

Dogs, Eels, Sharks and Melb have all been done for cap rorts in the last 10yrs so my guess is it's one of them.

It has to be the Sharks or Dogs.

Eels haven’t snagged anyone of note last 2yrs & aren’t active on big names.

Storm have been losing players that under the dodge ways would’ve kept.

Yeah they were my two guesses as well. I'll laugh so hard if it's the Dogs.

Sharks is an interesting one though, they've been active in the player market however they've also cut loose a lot of big salaries for next season as well such as Woods, Dugan, SJ and likely Fafita etc.

The rest of Reynolds', Packer's and some of Mbye's (if he goes to the Dragons) money will come off the books. Joey Leilua off the books too.

The money is most definitely there for Manu on a long-term deal.

You know what, I'd rather overpay for a superstar than overpay for mediocre players. It's all well and good to snap up young talents like the Stefanos, Blores, Lauries etc. Shrewed pick ups like Maumalo below value are good too. But at some point you need a marquee and our strategy in recruit otherwise is what lets us go over the top for elite talent.

This is a genuine question. Is Manu a genuine marquee? I watch a lot of league and he’s never stood out to me from a commentators bias point of view if that makes sense. I can’t remember a time where they sit and rant for 5 minutes about him like other players like cleary, tedesco ado carr, cronk etc.

To me a million gets you teddy, turbo or Mitchell. Hunt and Taylor level doesn’t interest me for a million stuffing your cap for 4 years.

Would love him in tigers colours obviously.

Manu is absolutely genuine marquee.
His game the other week was sublime - not sure if you saw it. He was everywhere.
He oozes class.

I’ll have a bit of time as we are now in lockdown. I’ll see if I can track some highlights down. Sounds like he’s playing for a contract now.

Broncs will get him with paper bags ??

Does anyone know much about a guy called Tony Sukkar from our 2021 Balmain Tigers Harold Matthews squad.
Souths forum are talking him up and wondering if he is under contract or not and if he goes ok.

Front rower and captain of the Balmain Harold Matts this year, so only very young still. Souths juniors are middle of the road, kind of like Balmain this year so it wouldn't surprise me if they made a play for him.

Looks like a different middle forward of our Balmain team is lost to South’s for next year.

https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2021/08/12/rabbitohs-sign-five-young-prospects-on-extended-contracts/

Jaxson Rahme, 17, is a middle forward that has committed to the Rabbitohs for the next two seasons. Rahme won the most valuable player award for NSW Combined Catholic Colleges this year and is in line for selection in the Australian Schoolboys squad to be announced later this year. He joins the Rabbitohs from the Balmain Tigers junior representative system, also having captained his school side, Holy Cross Ryde, in the 2021 GIO Schoolboys Cup.

The way I see it is that he is only 17.

Build him up at the Rabbits, when the Wests Tigers are a force in say 4-5 years, sign him back up to play constant finals footy 😛

It's hard to imagine the Dogs could be foolish enough to do it again. The whole Woods saga replayed.

Mind you, I'd be happy to take JAC or Burton off them (at discounted money) if they need to suddenly offload someone.

Definitely not us, we can't sign anyone.

Obvious thought is the Dogs. They have made some huge splashes in the market.

Manu was incredible against Panthers last week, turboesque. I have been very impressed with the way the Roosters have found a way to push through successfully and still challenge for the top 4 with the injury toll they have had this year. Manu has been a big part of that, playing three positions.

Gould was banging on about the Bunnies players and salary cap issues a few days ago in Fox NRL?

Though I don’t recall previous cap problems?

A big yes to Mo the guy is a beast. Was easily the best prop for qld during the series.

I agree but I wonder if the tragic memories of what occurred with his brother, while a Wests Tigers player, might mean it would be too hard for Mo to think of coming here. I'm not suggesting the club failed in its duty of care, (I don't know the circumstances at all) but like Stefano's decision was partly influenced by his brother's experience at Parra, perhaps just the memory of WTS - might take us out of his calcultions. And let's face it, he could pick the club he joins he is that good.

Manu has been exceptional this year, but he does suffer from inconsistency occasionally, which you'd imagine would only be exasperated in our team.
He'd be a great get at $1m but I'm not sure you could justify more than that. You could easily plug him in at centre but let him play all over the park.

Harley Smith-Shields is playing tonight - Does anyone know if we should be watching him closely tonight or not?

He is too short for a winger

6 foot and 94 kg isn't too small imo.

I've probably missed it being discussed however is the interest in him just fan forum chatter or has the club legit been linked to him, as in offer presented? From games I've seen him play he seems to more than hold his own.

Was chatting with a mate last night who's a massive Raiders fan and there's pretty big wraps on him there however he's stuck behind a host of other talent when it comes to a regular starting gig.

I didn't understand this comment either...

Is it racism?
I don't think Hudson is indigenous.

There was an allegation this year from peachey young racially abused him on field.

You sure?
That was Mitch Barnett. Last year

pretty sure he's a centre.

JAC certainly looks to have slowed down this year
