Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just what the doctor ordered from https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/wigan-warriors-player-ratings-catalans-21606041:

Oliver Gildart - 7: His best performance of the year, looked like a genuine threat every time he got the ball.
Jackson Hastings - 9: Thrilling performance, creating chances, kicking well, nailing a 40/20 and assisting the first try. A constant threat. Kicking game awesome.

I’d take fergon in a heart beat experienced winger great finisher and hates loosing and is currently playing in a top 8 team.
People need to remember we are not a destination club we need to build slowly by getting experienced competitors in to help our young guys learn how to Play nrl week in week out because at the moment our senior group is terrible

We are where we are because we have bought players like Fergo in the past (thanks Ivan)A big NO from me

Amuses me when someone cites player x hates losing. How do you know, have you asked them? How do they hate losing any more than any other player? And why is that such a pre-requisite? I hate losing, does that mean I could get a run?

Sorry GNR, couldn’t resist

Well there already are one or two flogs in the team according to some, so clearly that isn’t a deterrent to player signings. So give me my contract.

I think this comment is based on how they react (from what we see on camera) after a loss or try against. We want to see the type of emotion that shows buy in. There is too little 'eye of the tiger' amongst our group these days & too much 'moping'. I know it's a different generation of teens, 20-something these days but, by gee, nothing beat a team mate/s firing you up after a loss - was inspiring & lifted me.

Maybe we’ve finally found our identity. Wests Tigers are all Flogs! We tackle and attack like flogs

When could do worse then Marty Tapau and Dylan Walker. An impact forward and a 6/centre coming from a winning team. I’d give manly Garner and take sims. You strengthen all the areas we are weak and add experience in the forwards and the backs.

Give Manly Garner. Pushing that trade rage button.

That was against the minor premier too.

Info & content on club youth is an area that AFL has it all over the NRL. It is easy to find contract info, profiles & player performance reviews (every match) by coaches of club-listed players in lower grades (i.e. VFL). Unfortunately in NRL we have to rely mostly on fans posting info. HUUUGGGGGEEEEE opportunity for a club to take the bull by the horns & revolutionise club content in NRL.

Unfortunately it’s not the NRL. It’s the NSW / QLD rugby league.
20s is no longer national and this is where it has fallen apart.

I’ve discussed a similar avenue with my mates in terms of streaming the games of the lower grades. It is all managed by NSW rugby league and therefore they have the rights to the content they produce.
My suggestion was for the NRL club to approach a multimedia group with a marketing deal where they use their company to film and stream content for at least the Jersey Flegg and KOE Cup games and allow the fans more access to the younger brigades.
But as I mentioned this is all NSWRL managed and I don’t think those guys have the foresight to see the opportunities available if they didn’t manage everything themselves.

There are players on the market or could be prized away with one year remaining on there contracts that would turn around the team into a top 8 side , so the question remains the coaching issue ! The spots are available and the money is available ..

If you want to know why players don’t want to come here it’s because they want to play finals. Look at the players who left us last year and I think they are all playing finals

We will only attract players when we have success. Players want to have succes, play finals, win premierships. Whoever is selling the dream to potential recruits isn’t convincing them that things are going to change. When they see us getting smashed 38-0 by the wooden spooners then they put a big x on our name. We are in a long term play and the onli way out is to recruit young guns like Laurie and Stefano and hope they develop and want to continue what they started here.

That’s hilarious. Players have been liking up to play for the Tigers for many years. Our biggest recruit was Adam Blair ffs.

Or... pull off a signing coup and bring big names to come over together from another team. That would expedite the process!
Yeah, I'm dreaming, I know.

Great idea re the streaming. Most sports that don’t have FTA or Pay TV coverage are doing this now. But still the club can provide more engagement & content on the Jersey Flegg team asvthey are Wests Tigers. How good would a summary of each player after each game be from the coach! I’m a Hawthorn fan in AFL & they do this for their reserves players each week. Not hard & even a ‘player in focus’ profile interview each week so us as fans can build a greater connection with the player. That zoom interview with Stevanovic & Rua was a good start.

Sad thing is, I’m not confident with those four above we would of been any closer to making the eight.
I don’t believe that last game has any bearing on our future. Had it of been the result a couple of rounds earlier when we played them and were still in a shot for the 8 I’d say there was an issue. That last game just seemed to all come to a head for the players. First couple of try’s you’d try and stay in the contest. Next couple you start asking yourself if the result of this game makes any difference and it just looked as though they were exhausted from a draining season.

I’m not a fan of any of the above 4. My point is players won’t come here because they want to play finals. And even mediocre players leave and end up playing finals.

It would be great and that’s why it’s so frustrating.
Your right a start would be to capture everything outside of the game day rights. Still I can’t see how hard it is for the NSWRL to change it up and open their eyes to the new digital generation and go to tender with multimedia groups instead of relying on Fox to broadcast the occasional game.

Who does the streaming for the Combined High Schools games that are often spoken about here?

Mate, most of these players were let go as they were not in Madge's long term plans. With these four players we are not a spot higher on the ladder. The thing about these guys mostly, they are stop gap players who can 'hold down a position', while the other players excel around them. Similar to George Jennings at Melbourne, or even Adam Keighran helping out the Roosters in the centres the last few months. If you put these guys above in teams 9th-10th they still don't make the finals. These guys have benefited from being on the back of some pretty good teams.

The key to most good NRL Teams is having your core of 6-10 really good NRL Players, and then the rest are just doing their jobs. Same in 05, we have Elford and Fitzhenry in the backline. They may not of even started in plenty of NRL Teams that year, but they held their spots and allowed us to pay bigger money for others etc. Our problem is we seem to have about 12 stop gap players and our other 5 are just "ok".
