Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tariq Sims ,Adam Elliott would both be huge additions for our mediocre pack of forwards .We may have trouble signing quality players , so if we got the opportunity to grab players of that caliber then we should .

Amazes me how some of these reporters say -” Cam Ciraldo would not be interested in coaching WT the basket case!”
Well I was reading this old article from back in April this year.
About how Ciraldo was trying to get out of his Penrith contract to be an assistant to Craig Fitzgibbon at the Sharks. He would be closer to home and believes a change might be good, as he has been at Penrith for almost 10 years.
He said sometimes I feel the players may be sick of hearing the same voice. But then changed his mind, because he probably thought, what's the point of moving from one club as an assistant to another to be an assistant.
Now , as if he wouldn't be interested in being closer to home with a brand new centre of excellence, becoming a first grade coach with Tim Sheens holding his hand.

Ma va fungoolo !

My take on who we should sign/release for next season ...

From those still uncontracted, release Cini & Amone (and no upgrade for Kei although I thought he was an auto upgrade into top 30 squad like Hoffman). I'm also now in the camp that if we can find a mutually beneficial transfer for Brooks, we take it.

OUT: Walters, Packer, Mbye, Cini, Amone, Brooks, Leulia, Chee Kam
IN: Hoffman (from Dev Squad), Hastings, Gildart

That leaves 5 spots open which I would target:
- Tariq Sims (backrow) - leadership, intensity, aggression, experience
- Tyrone Peachey (5/8, utility) - experience, leadership in indigenous pathways, slots in at 5/8 while Doeuhi is out with Hastings as our directional half
- Israel Ogden (centre, wing, fullback) - reward youth, x-factor, wing/FB backup
- Blake Ferguson (wing) - experience, x-factor, he & Nofa to fight out wing spot so Nofa out of comfort zone, 1 year deal only so youth can replace in 2023 ie Scolari
- Joseph Tapine (middle) - experience, xfactor, leadership, ball skills (transfer with Brooks ideally).

Big focus on experience, intensity, leadership to complement Hastings which the team desparately needs plus Sims, Peachey & Ferguson are only for 2 seasons (1 for Blake) so there is a pathway for our youth (the likes of Tumeth, Sykes, Mansfield, Dillon, Scolari, Pole etc).

And the maximum number we can put on development contracts in 2022.

I'd be very happy with the above.

Given what is left in the player market this concept is about the best we can hope for. Upgrade some youth to top 30 and try to grab the best couple of available players that suit our gaps at the right price (who that may be us up for debate). Possibly keep a spot unfilled for any good player that potentially becomes gettable mid year.

Realistic goal should be an improvement on last year’s ladder position with the key young core to continue to show development. If Stef, Laurie, Doueihi, etc can stay on their current trajectory then some momentum may be built and we will take small strides to being a more desirable destination club and maybe better attract key recruits for 2023. Goals as we stand need to be realistic and fit to the medium-long term plan. Moneyball recruits for depth/leadership while we wait to jag a marquee signing are fine.

Would kill for another 2 young recruits like Stef and Laurie over this off-season though. Not sure if any of the internal youth players could take similar strides over the next 12 months? Penrith have shown that if you can hold the course with a young team you can climb the table pretty quickly over a couple of years.

If Madge stays I think we also have to make changes with the defence and attack assistant coaches. I don’t think we are as far away from getting onto a better path as the media likes to make out, though.

I can see why people are suggesting Tariq but can’t see him doing much at the tigers, Ogden, peachey yes

We do need a utility 14 in the squad. Peachey not a bad option on a 2 year deal on pretty low money. If we are serious about the indigenous pathways then we need to honour this strategy and have some senior indigenous players on the books to mentor the younger guys and help with recruitment of other elite indigenous talent.

No way Peachey joins us as a bench warmer if at all.

Marty & Simms would be a big squad upgrade for us especially if we can get them on decent costed 2yr-3yr deals.

Marty would be a huge lift for Stefano and give us a true 1-2 punch up the middle.

I thought long n hard about Ferguson but for a 1 year deal in a spot we need depth. He can finish, is reportedly a great team man & elite trainer who can set an example & adds intensity, talk & spirit. We need these types to pump up others. How frustrating is it seeing no talk, heads down, no one firing eachother up when down … the likes of Ferguson, Sims & Hastings will help.

Not sure man. Not saying no but I think there is a reason he is going OS the money and I don’t think 1 more less than deal he would be willing to accept if he can get a decent contract OS.

Where is all this Fergo talk coming from.....Im scared...

I would rather put that money towards another position of need and happy with KM and Nofo at this stage. I don't blame Nofo as much as others because if he has some good defenders inside him he would not come in as much. Nofo would kill it at a top line club IMO.

I would sign Ikuvalu, DYlan WAlker,Peachey, Ferguson and Marty tomorrow

Hard to argue but not a Fergo fan.
But if we had them this year we make the finals.. We have some excellent youth and just need 4-5 solid experienced players to guide us along.

Its a no from me for Ikuvalu, Wlaker and Fergo but I acknowledge we would be a much better team with Walker. It would be Walker OR Peachey, not both.

Obvioulsy a bit of a scumbag of a bloke but a good footballer, has played well under Madge before, only 27 and would walk into our centres. If we are considering Curtis Scott then we clesrly dont care about off field stuff
