Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sorted realised William Kei has been promoted to the top 30 for 22

I think he has an additional year on his development contract until he moves into the top 30. could be wrong though.

William Kei has been promoted to the top 30 for 2022 alongside Ryan Hoffman this was confirmed by email to me by Pascoe. With the Peachey signing there are 3 spots left. We need a centre, second rower & hooker. I would sign Curtis Scott, Tariq Sims free time negotiate & Josh Hodgson seems unhappy at Canberra.

"William Kei's promotion to Wests Tigers 2022 NRL squad comes after he featured in the club’s Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup squads from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, the Bankstown Sports junior had featured in Parramatta’s junior representative sides — earning selection and starring for New South Wales. Kei is signed through at Wests Tigers until the end of the 2022 season."" from his profile on the tigers website

And those two promotions are huge indictments on our recruitment and retention. Neither are remotely close to first grade standard and are blocking the paths of players who might be.

We're still paying for the mistakes in the past. If we can manage to swap Hoffman, Kei, Garner, and potentially a few others we have the room to revamp the squad with a higher calibre of player.

Kei is a funny one. While some players on top 30 or dev contracts were playing up a grade he was playing down a grade in Flegg. And he didn't stand out in Flegg and didn't make the trip to Queensland despite not being listed as injured. Effectively he's a young Nof. If we let Nof go there could be room for him if he can lift his game.

I don’t understand, wasn’t kei highly touted last season and before ? Now he’s no good ?

I highly doubt we’re in the market for a hooker when we have 2 in Liddle and Simpkin and will have Peachey coming off the bench.

Think Kei has gone backwards for whatever reason.
Maybe injuries?

Hoffman is an interesting one for me. Read that he’s put on a good bit of muscle in the off season and is more of a defensive centre, I think that’s the path we should be going Down. Look at manly, 2 centres that just do their job in defence and move the ball well when needed. Strike centres are for the top of the heap teams, we should have ones that just do the job for now

Hoffman didn’t look too bad this year. Still young with plenty of potential. Won’t be a star but will be a solid first grader

He was a highly rated junior but so far hasn't kicked on. Was average in NSW cup and Flegg. Slow, poor hands, running in off his wing. A young Nof... Scolari and Hill and Ogden should all be ahead of him on merit

They can be cut throughout the year though can’t they ? Much like how the roosters let go of AJ kepeoa ?

I think they can be picked up by another club, but they have an option in their favour that promotes them to the top 30. I can try and find out exactly how they work as I am unsure about the mechanism but have been told they guarantee top 30.

Is that across the board? Or just something that west's tigers have been doing?

Across the board. It makes building your squad hard as for the players you have of contract there is often a development player that needs to be added to fill that spot in the top 30.

Odds obviously not in his favour but you never know, could have a blinder of a pre season and regain old form and fight his way into some selection. What’s the worse that could happen ? We lose some games ?
