Why hasn’t anyone mentioned the following 2 Words…… Matt Ballin


More than a few have mentioned Ballin and the obvious paralels (Over 30 ACLs Hooker nobody else wants).Some just dont see any problem

Not only don’t see they see the problem, they are cheering it on. It’s bizarre.

Just goes to show how desperate we are for some on field leadership.

Could say there hasn't been once since Farah retired.

I honestly hope AD becomes the leader we need but yeah, you're right... we're excited about Hodgson because its quite clear it's something we've lacked for some time.

Agree. Nobody that plays at NRL level is a coward. That’s a ridiculous notion.

That’s just the thing but good players don’t often come off contract it’s quit rare that a player at the peak of his powers comes of contract and then the chances of him comming to the tigers is even more un likely

On what basis do you say that nobody else wants him? If he were off contract I think there is a good chance that a number of clubs would look at him. Do you genuinely think clubs like the Titans, Bulldogs and Broncos wouldn't have a look at him?

There are also differences with Ballin's injury situation:
- Ballin had done the same knee twice, not different knees; and
- Ballin was still coming off his 2nd ACL which he'd done in the August before he signed with us whereas Hodgson has come back and played a full season after his 2nd ACL, so it has at least shown it can hold up in play post-recovery.

They should definitely look at the % likelihoods of injury recurrence before they think about signing him (especially to an expensive contract), but they should use proper data not just go "oh well we once signed a hooker who had done 2 ACL's and that didn't work out so never again". That is a hokey way of doing business.

Asked him straight out if Hodgson is coming and he basically said we are waiting for Canberra to come to the party salary wise.
I said “but they don’t want him hey and he doesn’t wanna be there. So we have the upper hand”. He replied “yeah”.
BTW I didn’t realise he is quite tall

Was he shopping or working the checkout?

I'd assume he was in the shampoo section, copping some bargains.

Big W clothes are pretty poor from what I've seen.

Although I saw a Rambo singlet there once and regretted not buying it ever since -its gone now.

If this is true it actually shows what a poor position we are in as a club when the CEO is talking to supporters at the shopping centre about the details of contract negotiations.

You’re kidding ….. right?

Personally, and clearly I’m in the minority, I don’t feel the CEO or anyone for that matter should be taking details of contracts with supporters/strangers in shopping centres. Yes it’s great he had a chat to a fan but a simple yes he’s a player we are looking at would have been enough. Outlining that we want more money from the raiders and agreeing with an explicit comment about our ‘upper head’ in the negotiations I feel are inappropriate. People complain about leaks and poor negotiations with players and these actions are part of that in my opinion.

Im all for professionalism but in this case it’s not in the same stratosphere as managers or clubs going to the media (projecting it to 10s of 1000s) leaking really detailed info to suit their agenda. Pascoe could have said bugger off but he chose to interact with someone at the most important level of the game. A fan.

Fair enough. Thompson was actually very good. The club tried to retain him, but he got a better offer from the Warriors.
