No coach works alone with cap management someone has to give the green light.

Sheens is the green light.

I have zero confidence with Sheens managing our cap. We've seen what he has done in the past.

So, professionals don’t learn from past mistakes?

Ivan screwed our cap, but seems to be managing it okay at Penrith. Des is similar story.

I don't know about professionals. I figure they are just people. Sometimes people learn from their mistakes. Sometimes they don't. Do you think Sheens thinks he made a mistake ? I don't know him personally but he sued us after we sacked him.

I don't know what Sheens will be like. As a coach he was great at times but he also stuffed our cap up.

I doubt anything from any club will happen until at least December.

Does pre-season start today? If not, when does that start?

Starts Wednesday 3 November for most of the squad including some of our juniors who were identified coming through to train with the NRL squad.

You know which juniors will be training with the top squad ?

Dillon, Stevanovic, Scolari, Rua Ngati, Perry are the names I’ve been told.

have you heard anything about whether Israel Ogden is staying around?

I haven't heard his name mentioned but that might not mean anything. Would be a damn shame as probably the most likely pressing for first grade in 2022 from the young guys. Nothing against Kevin but at 33, we would seem to be going back to the future. I get the current Jersey Flegg group from 2019 - 2021 (1.5 seasons in 3) have missed out on much-needed football experience but the quicker we expose them a bit, the better we have a chance to break the cycle.

Most of these weren't signed on development contracts when they started - whoever uses this technique to guarantee Top 30 spots needs horsewhipping. Yes rep players from school can be good but what we have seen is that many who didn't play rep and come into the comps after school have still been maturing and can still be excellent prospects.

Unfortunately, the rest were left languishing and then Covid hit with very little exposure if any to NRL training and squads. These players are going to have to do it the hard way but the good news is they can certainly shine although the big caveat would be patience will be required due to lack of football.

From my knowledge by attendance at games and training for the past 5 or so years, we have managed to retain some very good talent as the results of 2021 showed.

As they say, sometimes we can't keep them all but let's hope of the ones we have, a few will come through and bring the club back to its glory days.

Where was he supposed to learn Cap Management?
Certainly wasn't in Canberra in the late 80's early 90's

He was a magician at Coaching...
Re-Invented the game (For 12 months)
He'd also carry 3 Reserve Grade backs on the Bench against some
of the Best packs in the Comp..
They all get lost in themselves at some point

except those 2 really good ones in the last 20 years

Hartigan wouldn’t spend. Think Sheens will operate differently. He will spend on the right player

That's what I'm afraid of?

Unfortunately to get a player like Brandon Smith, we need to overpay regardless.

Yes, i think he knows he made a mistake as we all do. But neither of us know for sure do we?
I think that he should be given the benefit of the doubt and hindsight instead of automatically rounding off on him for something he did an age ago - and suing someone for what you think is wrongful dismissal has no correlation with what he may likely do now and moving forward.
Some people just always look at the 1/2 empty glass.

Says a lot about this club and what it has done to its fans that people are talking up the idea of signing a 33 year old Naiqama as an upgrade/positive.
A total embarrassment, confirming our staus as the real donkeys of the NRL

Sorry...but we supporters just deserve better...and smarter...recruitment decisions than Kevvie at 33
Shocker!
