Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The fact that WT hired Hastings AND Peachey blocks his pathway somewhat.Plus Douhi wants to play 6.
Club has showed its hand
Madden has had very limited opportunities in NRL and did OK....but hasnt been a standout in KOE cup either

Simpkin’s just turned 20 and had 2 years of development disrupted by covid. He was doing well in reserves last year. Struggled in first grade sure, but wasn’t ridiculously out of his depth

Good Post

I see some great potential in Simpkin and also Madden.

Both have tons of upside and are very young and in Key positions.

Agree on Simpkin.

Strongly disagree on Madden. Yes young, hasn't had a real go etc - but I see zero potential in him.

Again, Madden's 'talent' is made up/exaggerated because everyone wants Brooks gone - at any cost.

Joey Johns was fuming at Newcastle for letting him go. I'll trust his judgement

Madden imo is going to be a very good organising half. I don't believe it is as clear cut as some believe that Hastings will partner Brooks in the halves. Madden has a lot to offer and it wouldn't surprise me if Brooks and Madden were the halves with Hastings on the interchange.

Agreed.
We need an organising half to partner Brooks and move him to 5/8, Adam D to center.

Hastings, man he has some talent but i wish people would Curb their expectations!

Hastings could be great or the next Todd Carney/Ben Barba or a Fizzer. Many skilled people have sucked the next season like Tim Moltzen who IMHO in his prime was a bigger gun. Switch rules or teams and hey the suck.

Doueihi can’t play centre. His defence is suspect and his speed, which was already low grade, will be further hampered by his injury.

He has a lot to work on as a 6 and really needed this off season.

He was rated in the top 5 5/8ths in the NRL

Hang on, are we including ratings such as Dally M's these days or not. I lose track....

Even without a preseason and the weaknesses in his game Doueihi should be our first half picked. Without him in the halves we just can't score points. We saw the Madden/Brooks combo vs the Dogs and it was a horror show.

Doueihi being out for the start of the season means his role will be determined by whoever is underperforming when he comes back. If the 6 and 7 are going well they stay and he plays centre if not one of them goes.

One thing we desperately need is a centre regardless of where Adam ends up.

Desperately need a good centre is a big understatement.

But we had a SOO centre ......and BJ ...before that Jamal Idris ...all of who had 5 minutes of fame

Rumours floating around up here that Ponga is the Dolphins No 1 hope ...not Munster or Brandon Smith

Wonder if their mad Monday celebrations / dance party changed that ......

For sure, i'm saying if he's healthy enough to play he should be at 6. We don't have much strike power as it is and Madden/Brooks aren't going to deliver us many points. Interested to see how Hastings goes too.

I can see that happening. Can’t see him playing the rest of his career at Newcastle.

Im just worried he will lack a little confidence and drive off that knee next season and for a powerful runner that is a concern.

He will. It’s a natural side affect of coming back from an ACL. Don’t expect much from him next year, it’s pretty much a write off. Best we can hope for is he comes back, gets a few games under his belt and is ready to go for pre-season.

But thats the norm mate .....in can take months to get confidence it your knee ...and stop thinking about it at every moment ...even just landing on it .....and this is his 2nd as well remember ......makes it even worse mentally .....not too many make it back after a 3rd ACL ...try getting that out of your head

That is my take as well. I would be planning the entire season without him in the halves

LOL I can still remember Forum members criticizing me when I had a shot at the club for letting/ making him walk from one end of the Stadium to the other to do an interview and then all the way back to the dressing rooms without crutches or the medicab .....

WESTS TIGERS

Off-contract 2022: Luke Garner, Luciano Leilua, Jock Madden, Thomas Mikaele, Joe Ofahengaue (MO 2023), James Roberts, Tommy Talau, James Tamou, Kelma Tuilagi, Alex Twal

Analysis:Luciano Leilua is coming off his best NRL season and is in line for a pay rise. The only problem is that the club and Leilua’s management can’t seem to agree on a price. The 25-year-old is currently on a deal worth around $450,000 per season but is reportedly seeking an upgrade to $700,000 for next season and if that is met he will then begin negotiations for a four-year extension. Leilua’s contract talks started in August but have been delayed due to uncertainty around Michael Maguire’s future and the departure of football boss Adam Hartigan. Given there’s been no deal made, Leilua and the Tigers likely haven’t reached an agreement yet, which leaves him open to rivals. Tigers skipper James Tamou will be 33-years old before next season even kicks off and may opt to retire after a quiet first year for the club. The Tigers have reportedly chosen not to activate the option in James Roberts’ contract and instead had offered him a $1,000-a-week train and trial contract. Luke Garner had been linked to a move to Manly, but the whispers around that switch have died down.

That would be a massive win for us, I hope it's true.
