Even without a preseason and the weaknesses in his game Doueihi should be our first half picked. Without him in the halves we just can't score points. We saw the Madden/Brooks combo vs the Dogs and it was a horror show.

I need to see how his knee is.

For sure, i'm saying if he's healthy enough to play he should be at 6. We don't have much strike power as it is and Madden/Brooks aren't going to deliver us many points. Interested to see how Hastings goes too.

Im just worried he will lack a little confidence and drive off that knee next season and for a powerful runner that is a concern.

He will. It’s a natural side affect of coming back from an ACL. Don’t expect much from him next year, it’s pretty much a write off. Best we can hope for is he comes back, gets a few games under his belt and is ready to go for pre-season.

That is my take as well. I would be planning the entire season without him in the halves

We could potentially have Peachey and AD in the centres, would be the most creative centres in the comp.

Even brooks bag of kicking tricks proved ineffective 😂

The fact that WT hired Hastings AND Peachey blocks his pathway somewhat.Plus Douhi wants to play 6.
Club has showed its hand
Madden has had very limited opportunities in NRL and did OK....**but hasnt been a standout in KOE cup either**
Next...

he was voted Wests player of the year in a very strong side. Don't know what more he could have done.

WESTS TIGERS

Off-contract 2022: Luke Garner, Luciano Leilua, Jock Madden, Thomas Mikaele, Joe Ofahengaue (MO 2023), James Roberts, Tommy Talau, James Tamou, Kelma Tuilagi, Alex Twal

Analysis:Luciano Leilua is coming off his best NRL season and is in line for a pay rise. The only problem is that the club and Leilua’s management can’t seem to agree on a price. The 25-year-old is currently on a deal worth around $450,000 per season but is reportedly seeking an upgrade to $700,000 for next season and if that is met he will then begin negotiations for a four-year extension. Leilua’s contract talks started in August but have been delayed due to uncertainty around Michael Maguire’s future and the departure of football boss Adam Hartigan. Given there’s been no deal made, Leilua and the Tigers likely haven’t reached an agreement yet, which leaves him open to rivals. Tigers skipper James Tamou will be 33-years old before next season even kicks off and may opt to retire after a quiet first year for the club. The Tigers have reportedly chosen not to activate the option in James Roberts’ contract and instead had offered him a $1,000-a-week train and trial contract. Luke Garner had been linked to a move to Manly, but the whispers around that switch have died down.

What club will fork out 700g for big Lucy. I think 500g would be absolute tops. Although with the Dolphins now looking for 30 players, I guess demand and supply will have a massive inflationary effect on the player market.

...show something..anything...during one of his several opportunities in NRL to ensure we dont have to buy a Hastings and/or Peachey
We seem to have numerous players who just cant make the next step up...whereas Souths have 2 young 7s who get a chance and take it with both hands
Madden /Cini etc need to make more of their opportunities and maybe keep getting selected

We have now resorted to just what we have already and where we put them..

If the Roosters are to hold onto Manu and also pick up B Smith as rumoured they will be force for years to come.. Will never understand how the salary cap works and 100% the NRL don't care either

Yea its a joke - the report is that Manu will forego $500k to stay at the rorters. The NRL will just rubber stamp it.

I think the Roosters have had a sponsor called "Paperpak' for years now that help them out with retaining players.......The company logo doesnt seem to appear anywhere on their jerseys so its a bit of a mystery , isnt it?

They make brown paper bags.

I don't think he's worth that SC. I don't think he's an 80 minute player and his defence is terrible. If someone else wants him for $500k I'd be happy for us to let him go.

Nobody in their right mind would pay 700k for Lucy.He is not an 80 minute player and very ineffective in defence. If he can get 700k elsewhere let him go.

And the original article stating that he is coming off his best NRL season ever is arguably wrong. I'd say that instead 2020 was better.

Considering the bad-will his brother had towards us when he left, I would guess that Lucy would be unlikely to stay. A shame really, for if Lucy really knuckles down and works on his reading of the defence then he could be a keeper.

Though I also agree with jadtiger that he's ideally a solid bench second rower with his current limited motor.

His 1st game was solid, the game against the Titans ruined his confidence. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes an ample 1st grader but I am glad WTs have chosen not to be the team that waits for that to happen.

It's seriously comical how many automatically assume/expect Nov 1 coincides with signing news and get upset when there isn't any. It's literally just another day on the calendar with the only signifigance being players can leagally sign with another club for 2023. Negotiations can take weeks or in some cases months to sort out.

No club will. I think the 700k rumours have been debunked though. Most likely looking somewhere between 550-600.

That would be great for the club imo.
Can't see him forfeiting all that cash though

probably got a job with the Panthers doing much less for a bit less coin. Close to home for him...
He's played a long while now...
