If we’re desperate for a hooker, why not just have made a play for Mahoney?

Given we're linked to Hodgson and Koroisau, I would assume the thinking is for someone to hold the fort for two years, and then Simpkin becomes the full time #9.

That is the case Hodgson if we have signed him which @THE_POM has said we are close too depending what happens next week Hodgson will be our Hooker with Liddle or Simpkin coming off the bench and in 2 years Simpkin would definitely take over as the club is going with him as our next long term Hooker Liddle is not apart of the clubs long term plans as been mentioned by @willow

Is Farnworth originally from England?

He is from Blacko, United Kingdom.

UK might be our new recruitment strategy

Given Sheens is well respected in the SL and UK it would be easier to recruit players from the SL or have an English background so it helps us out

Farnworth is one I'd love. Huge fan. Fingers crossed for Hodgson and Papali'i. That would round out a pretty decent off season recruiting circuit, provided we can move Isaiah across for next year. Couple that with extensions for Stef and Dane and it's money well spent.

Farnworth can cover 1-5 so would be a huge get. Might cost big coin though. It's hard to prise players from Brisbane as the perks of living there and playing for the Broncos outweigh playing for a Sydney club. Even Brisbane coming dead last is a good club to play for.

Might not rate him. Might not be what they're looking for in a skillset from a hooker. Might think there's too much competition in the market for him so they'd have to pay overs. Might want to leave room for Simpkin to come through. There may be plenty of legitimate reasons.

I think the last reason would be it. Clearly see Simpkin in our future and don’t want to do anything to jeopardise that.

Farnworth would be juicy to score.. has it all.

Nikora.. Kinda like the people we have squad in those positions already.

Papalili - Sign him up asap.

Wot a load of [censored] , players told him not to come play under Maguire , that’s a load of crap

Source?

I think you need to ask the source of the original statement from @KH1988.

Finally found it again - don't shoot the messenger only sharing what was reported!!! (a bit scared how this copy and paste will turn out)

*Word later got back to the club that he had been advised by Blues teammates in camp to avoid playing under Maguire. He later signed with the Bulldogs.*

*Seven players in last year’s Blues squad - Luke Keary, Cody Walker, Cameron Murray, Nathan Brown, Angus Crichton, Cameron McInnes and Damien Cook - had previously been coached by Maguire at South Sydney.*

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/trust-or-bust-revelations-that-leave-tigers-on-collision-course-with-maguire-20210831-p58no0.html

Not saying this article is true, but if it is I can’t understand these players. If I had a hard nose coach that worked us too the bone and we came out with a premiership, I’d be forever great full, not bagging him.

In the documentary, one thing I noticed is at the end of THAT game against Souffs, how many of the Souffs players, including the mascot, when shaking hands with the Tigers players all said "Say G'day to Madge for me". If you cant stand the bloke that isnt an immediate thought.

Don't you think it's a good reflection on made that he coach 7 SOS players, mostly from an early age, to state of origin level.

Cook was a reserve grade hooker at bulldogs, cody was 25 playing reserves. While Kerry, Murray, Chrichton, McInnes all learnt their trade under Madge.

Its an outstanding achievement to develop so many into SOO quality tbh..something youd normally ascribe to a Bellamy or Bennett, and a timely reminder of why we hired Madge in the first place
But hes had 3 yrs to do same at WTs and with very few exceptions, most players performances have actually gone backwards..and many others have simply bailed out elsewhere(some still paid for by WTs).
And as we saw against Dogs, others just simply wont perform for him.
So what went so horribly wrong?Doubt his coaching style has changed dramatically over the years,as subject to critique as it is and should be ie personally I dont see how it cld be successful in this century..but it clearly was only 7 yrs ago
Other than finding it much more difficult(because of his reputation) to attract talent now to surround our younger players , I honestly cant put my finger on why Madge was so successful elsewhere developing players and mostly failing here

He had the Burgess boys to champion him though. Players that are leaders at the club, supporting his ideas and doing the hard yards at training, without complaining, I would imagine. He had the same with Benji, until he had to drop him, then it went downhill from there.

Should just up our offer to Papali'i by $50K a year straight after his meeting with Parra to show him we mean business.

Doubt we'll manage to get Farnworth from Brisbane or Nikora from the Sharks - the Sharks will be lean in the 2nd row from 2023 and will want to keep him.

I like Nikora. We can do with him

Very Sheenius style of player.

We already had Herbie in Momorovski. Should have kept Momo.

Herbie is quicker than Momo.

From what POM advised, reckon we could look to swap Garner to Manly for someone. Our backrow would still have options of Seyfarth, Offa, Blore, Peachey, Twal etc. His form does not warrant a tag of must retain.

I would have thought Daniel Sykes was going to be a back-row option next year after getting time in reggies this year. But he is off to the Panthers - would love to know the story behind that move

Poached I'd say.

Still waiting on a return phone call from Hartigan.

Plus the fact that they are all playing or played SOO. Must have been doing something right as a coach.

There's a meeting this morning between the club & The Raiders in relation to Hodgson with final offers to be presented. Believe we upped the $ we are contributing but not by much. A result is wanted from today so he can join pre-season training next week.

Curtis Scott deal was torpedoed by Sheens after having 1 phone call with him, not sure the issue but apparently wasn't sold on him joining the club.

Isaiah Papali'i had discussions with his the club & his management yesterday afternoon, our offer is better than the Eels & seems keen to join, but he does have a meeting with Eels today & they have upped their offer to him but still don't think will match our offer, expect a decision early next week.

Also appears Israel Ogden no longer with the club.

Club has also reached out to the management of Herbie Farnworth & Briton Nikora to gage their interest in joining the club in 2023.

Thanks mate, Do you know which position Peachey is training in, will he start the year in the centres? Is Luciano looking to sign on? Any other guys we are looking at for next year

Peachey from initial discussions is to be 13, Hastings will train at 6 alongside Brooks. Doueihi looking like he won't be back till around mid to end of May.
Luciano want's to stay but still a bit of a difference between what his management is asking for & the club is offering.

Honestly if Madge is going to persist with Brooks running the show instead of just running the ball at 6 then we are doomed before a ball is even kicked.

If thats the case, why wouldn’t Hastings start the season at 7? There’s zero guarantee AD comes back and walks into the halves.

Numbers are just that. Whomever is most dominant will be the 'halfback'. Traditionally this isn't what Brooks does, but we'll see what happens this time with his tenth halves partner

If we somehow get Hodgson and they don't take Liddle I would be on the phone to Dogs for a swap for Cotric..
I don't think they will get Moloney from Eels so might be tempted.

Looks like we have recruited well from QLD with the focus on pathways

The Wests Tigers have six of the best – Queensland schoolboys merit prop Herman Tofaeono (Keebra Park SHS), 2021 joint Justin Hodges medallist Chris Faatugu (Marsden SHS), outstanding Wavell No. 13 Junior Taungatua (Wavell SHS), middle forward Mou Taumaletila (Marsden SHS) and utility Kienan Tempest (Marsden SHS) who is a David Stagg clone.

Throw in brilliant Kirwan SHS outside back talent Dudley Dotoi from Far North Queensland and you have a bag full of good kids headed to the Wests Tigers.

And yet the majority of the forum are still carrying on like Jason Taylor is running things.

People need to wake up to the fact that this club is indeed doing good things and stop blaming them for the past mistakes.

Maybe the club should communicate a lot better with there stake holders … if this younger talent is on the books TELL us ,explain what’s happening and the direction the club is taking . COMMUNICATION costs nothing it’s easy but the most fundamental resource that organisation do not use effectively.

Still feel it wouldn't matter. Most people are still hung up on Josh Addo Carr etc

I actually met Addo Carr on Cup Day. Lovely fella. Asked him why he didn't come back to the Tigers and he said we didn't want him

At the price he was asking...

Can only take a man at his word

For sure. I just recollect a heads of agreement or was that latrell?

There was a HOA but only if the Storm agreed to a release for 2021. WT wouldn't agree to a player swap to secure the release so the Heads of Agreement was null and void

Doesn't that suggest we wanted him?

Fact that we wouldn't agree to any player swap to secure his release would suggest we didn't want him that much
