Im not prepared to loose jake Simpkin.

This signing would be perfect to keep him. An experienced dummy half to ease him into grade and in 3 years it’s his team. I think It works well for all

Yeah I'm sure Simpkin would happily wait around for 3 more years in reserve grade decreasing his market value. Signing Api will mean we'll lose an absolute young gun. Not a smart move

Not sure anyone really sees it that way tbh. Simpkin can still play his role off the bench or start if Api is injured. Simpkin is definitely not physically up to starting every game and playing 80mins and Lids is so far off what this team needs atm. There's a place for both Simpkin and Api.

Disagree, Simpkin will want out. He didn't re-sign to be in reserve grade

How old is he? I wouldn’t think he would be expecting to first choice hooker for another couple of years, at least, maybe longer?

Only just turned 20, still elligible for Flegg.

It's incredible that a guy who is STILL eligible for Flegg played numerous 80 min games for us last year, he will be a top 3 hooker in the game over his career. I'm not hyped with this Api signing because I guarantee Simpkin has one foot out the door after this. We're letting go of a 20 year old future star to sign a 30 year old pretty good one - and we aren't in a premiership window.

Inb4 everyone says Simpkin will wait his turn - you don't think the Dolphins will be offering him a chance to start and return home to Queensland? You think he'd rather stay here playing reggies?

I like your post but what is it you think simpkin has that will make him so good? I see a solid enough hooker who is not quite up to 80minutes at the moment, but I don't see a top 3 hooker and I wondered what you think he has?

I probably still prefer the Hodgson option but am very happy with Api. I preferred Hodgson because he seemed a better organiser and a bit grittier and that's what I think we need.

Really impressed and surprised that we've signed quality players for not too heavy a price.

58 tackles in 85 mins on debut aged 19 with 2 years of Flegg eligibility left. He was also the best player in KOE cup, again when he was Flegg eligible. He's a future stud and we cannot afford to lose him

Wasn’t even voted the best player in our team, but you have him the best player in a comp we weren’t winning… you his granddad?

He was 19!! He had two years of Flegg eligibility left. The fact he played first grade at all is incredible

What's that got to do with what I said? (Or your outrageous claims?)

Well 2023 is starting to look better, but dare I ask what about next season?
Not looking good at all

More movement at the station coming in the next week or two.

Give us a clue Master ??????

Nothing new Cotric should get done next week along with Stefano being extended. Also a big hope of Nanai getting signed for 2023 and being swapped with Luciano. Both are managed by Sam Ayoub whose close with Madge, Sheens and Robbie.

Ray Stone is in the outer at the Eels wouldn’t surprise me if we brought him back as Liddle will seek a release given Api signed. Liddle may end up at the Eels.

Always liked Stone and I guess Liddle is probably kicking around a few now so with Api coming maybe a swap give young Simpkin a baptism of fire as no 1 hooker. Be good if we get the swap done with Luc I can see him being a lip dragger. Everything is aimed toward 23 now I guess but would be nice to build some momentum until then. Be good to get Thompson done have you heard anything on that?

Zero apart from the dogs want him out.

Who the best Signing sine Ellis

Sydney morning herald saying melbourne offering us brandon smith for stefano as a swap

Not sure why there was such strong sentiment against this pre Api signing.
Sure, Stef is on the road to being a top prop, but Smith is **without question** a much more impactful player, an absolute marquee and more importantly - a player any club would build their team around.
Having said all that, now that we have landed Api we have clearly decided on our hooker, so there is no point in this swap. This, it is moot I guess - just a theoretical discussion.

Thomson and Cotric will make up for this frankly overrated Api news

Mate …. you just need to take a blue pill and chill.
All this negative rubbish …..

Take the blue pill and pretend Api will be good. Take the red pill and understand he'll gladly collect his retirement contract and be half as good as he is now

So current Origin player and premiership and close to best on field in the GF who is only 29 is only going to be half as good in 12 months. What an absolute delight you Must be to be around

Cook is the first No9 picked in origin.

Api is ok but gonna be onthe wind down as he hits 31+

If it was 2022, then I would be excited.

The swap was only offered by Melbourne after Smith had signed for 2022. Meaning we'd only have the Cheese for 12 months and in return lose our best forward

Yep.

Brandon Smith is starting to spiral out of control. I can’t see him seeing out his contract at the Roosters. The guy is a knob.

Stef - how can you not love him. Hard working kid and very humble.

2022 is more rebuilding.
Getting the young guns ready and more experienced.

Getting a few guys like Brooks, Nofo and Liddle to play well so we can put them on show and hopefully ship em off to NQ or the Dragons.

What about shipping off your mate Doueihi? He’s a bit of a liability? Two knee reconstructions, the clocks ticking. Not to mention Twal, he look like a tree stump out there, no line speed, they more or less just trip over him! Can even pass the ball, EVER?? He has the imagination of a fence post.
I always love it when they pass it to him on the forth tackle with his devastating evasiveness and ball skills close to the line...

DOWNVOTE!!!!!

What about the idea of Brandon Smith to the Panthers for 1 year and Api released to the Tiges early?

Why wouldn't the Roosters just sign Brandon Smith for 2022? They have never had trouble fitting people under the cap before.

Api is a year younger than Damien Cook, he still has plenty of good footy left in him , he will be 32 at the end of his tigers contract

Great signing, gives young jake more time to develop hopefully coming off bench and playing some lock as well

We would of been losing one of our best young players for a one year rental of the cheese before he skipped off the roosters in 23 id rather just ride out 22 with liddle and Simpkins , hope sheens told the storm to turn that phone sideways, shine it up real nice and shove it straight up…

He's under contract till '24, you really can't leave anytime you like, unless the club agrees? what part of that is hard to understand?

Liddle and Koroisau will work together. Both have x factor and playing both in shorter periods will bring out the best in them and a better result for WTs. SImpkin can learn in the NSW Cup remembering Grant was in his early 20s when he secured a regular starting position at WTs.

Utoikamanu and the young prop from the Knights - Chritisian ____________ (apologies I can't find his surname) are an outstanding pairing. Being a former prop himself, I'm sure Sheens will recognise their talent to build our new team around. Having Sheens aboard will improve our chances ten fold of retaining Utoikamanu and our other talented young players.
