Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Averillo may not have excelled anywhere but gee he looked better at fullback in the games he played for the Dogs than what our fullback dished up.

I like him as well… same with Casey - plenty of mongrel.
How they’re keeping Okunbor over schoupp is weird, even Averillo, he’s got a bit of talent, and they’ve tried him everywhere - but he hasn’t really excelled anywhere…
Weird over there, they really gotta keep their own or they’ll burn the place down.
Averillo is a good player but doesn't fit anywhere.

I think it's best for him to go to a club that can fit him in, in the one position.

I agree Casey is the goods hey.
JayO, no good.
Schoupp a loss.

Didn’t Madge try to get Laurie Daley in as an assistant for us and it was shot down because of his involvement with Fox? Is that right?
Glad that didn’t eventuate. Anyone that would drop Robbie Farah “because he is to smart “ & replaces him with Nathan Peats is a class A fool. Good to see QLD handed our bums to us that year. Laurie Daley a good player, but should leave coaching alone.

Tigers excited by Kumuls star's World Cup heroics

Wests Tigers hold high hopes for young Papua New Guinea winger Jimmy Ngutlik, who scored two tries against Wales in the World Cup - including one of the best solo efforts of the tournament.

The 21-year-old is currently contracted to Wests Magpies in the NSW Cup but will train with the Tigers' top squad when he returns to Sydney and may well force his way into the NRL in the next 18 months.

Coach Tim Sheens started the trend of bringing islander wingers into the game when he signed unknown Fijian Noa Nadruku in the 1990s at Canberra and knows how potent the spectacular speedsters can be.

"He's got a lot of pace, that's for sure - we will monitor him closely this season," Sheens told Wide World of Sports.

Putting 2 + 2 together & getting 7...

Brooks- Rumoured to Knights. They clearly want him. Sheens says he wants him to stay. Uses the trusty "he's on our roster for now" comment that never feels like an endorsement..

Will Smith = Signed. Backup?

Kurt Falls- rumoured to be coming. Backup?

Jackson Hastings- Unofficially our #13. Rumoured to want to play #7. Now linked with a couple of clubs away from Tigers & apparently doesn't get on with potential addition Bateman.

Adam Doueihi- No commitment from management to re-sign. Has recently punted manager.

Daine Laurie- No commitment to re-sign.

Mitch Moses- Rumoured to be the #1 target of Sheens/Marshall.

David Klemmer- Rumoured to be pursued by Tigers among others. Apparently Tigers willing to pay the full wage of Knights contract- putting Tigers in 'box seat'. Klemmer coming has (rumoured) no relation to Brooks going. Apparently Klemmer prefers other destinations, but those clubs unwilling to fork out for full contract value.

Tyson Frizzell- Recently rumoured to be a Tigers target.

John Bateman- Rumoured to have signed. Gave the trusty "I'm leaving it to after the WC to make a decision" line that never sounds like the truth.

Aaron Woods- Recently rumoured to be returning to the Tigers. Klemmer's best mate.

Let's see if we can put the pieces together..

1. Brooks has been linked to Knights for some time. Sheens uses the 'he's our player for now, Knights haven't asked about him' line. This is not a 'hands off' line. Our understanding is that no Brooks-Newcastle swap has any impact on our top target- Klemmer. But, what about Frizzell?

2. Klemmer to Tigers has been linked for a while, but nothing over the line. Recent report is talking about other clubs being in for him but not matching the contract value for Knights. Woods only recently linked to return to club, Klemmer's mate. Bargaining tool to swing the pendulum?

3. Bateman has been linked as signed & giving no indication he hasn't. Waiting for the WC run to be over, but expect this to be confirmed.

4. No extended contract for Doueihi or Laurie until the new year. Dependant on the Moses contract talk perhaps?

5. Will Smith & Falls offer coverage for Brooks/Hastings leaving.

6. Hastings linked to Bulldogs. Sheens + Gould had meetings earlier in the year with no outcome. Could Hastings be released to Bulldogs once/if Moses is confirmed along with potential Frizzell/Klemmer/Bateman additions?

Conclusion:

I believe that Woods coming is the hook to adding Klemmer.
Brooks is likely still moving, but instead of for Klemmer, perhaps for Frizzell.
Frizzell addition could allow Bateman to play #13, negating Hastings.
Hastings released to Bulldogs for ? Kiraz? Okenbor?
Smith & Falls cover at half in case Doueihi/Laurie doesn't work.
Moses is chased hard & Doueihi/Laurie contract extensions/value are assessed on the success of Moses joining.

See? 7.
You had me until Okenbor....

Thanks for posting this article TW. Jimmy has a lot of raw talent and is different. It would be interesting if WTs potentially fielded two PNG wingers - Jimmy Ngutlik and Jahream Bula.

A few weeks ago things were looking very optimistic for next season, we were been linked to some good footballers and trying to snare the odd big fish. As the cards slowly begin to fall, it seems Groundhog Day all over again.

Okay API and Papi are great additions, but we need plenty more and I think we are in for slim pickings again.

well that sorts out the questions regarding Ngutlik. hopefully he comes back from the World Cup and rips in during preseason and trials. few good young wingers in the system with Scolari, Hill, Ngutlik and Bula, hopefully they get a crack at some point providing they progress through Cup properly.

By most reports and rumours, we’re still in the driving seat for Klemmer (paying full freight) and Bateman (probably waiting for World Cup to finish).

If we can just add Klemmmer and Bateman to that recruitment, it’ll have been a very good offseason. Our forward pack would have a great blend of youth and experience that we haven’t had since Ellis was here.

I just saw his highlights reel. He gets mowed down a lot.
