Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

100% the Dogs want Reynolds back and it’s been discussed at Dogs leadership level as has Foran being released to Manly. I know this as a fact from Dogs people.

Where that leaves us with SJ is interesting as Zorba is close to Des and he may know this information as the Dogs would have told Forans manager he can go at anytime. Des loves him.

Issue is Manly can’t afford him and would have to release players. API, Walker, Taupau are all players Des may release but I’d take all 3 over SJ.

If this is true I’d let Josh Reynolds go to the dogs and take Johnson and Taupau and I think we would be contenders for The top 8.

6\. Johnson
7\. Brooks

Would that work?

That would be a major upgrade to always injured Reynolds and we get a good goal kicker to boot always liked Johnson and the wife says she finally gets some eye candy in a Tigers jersey !

Interesting. Cheers for the link.

What was said?

Paraphrasing, Peters said two things involving WT. First, he said his mail was Johnson to WT and, second, Cleary's actions had damaged his reputation.

Is that for next season or 2020? I thought Johnson was contracted to the Warriors for a couple more years, not that contracts mean anything these days.

Interesting what Zorba said about Brisbane's draw for next season also - how they have 8 from their first 10 matches at home on a Friday night, out of the heat of the early part of the season with 7 days turnaround every week! What the hell!

He alluded to how Brisbane are always favoured by the draw and said what most supporters have said for years now, that it's not a fair competition. When it has become so damn obvious that commentators are openly admitting it, why isn't someone doing something to stop it? Surely the powers that be can see that the blatant favouritism towards a select few teams every year is ruining the game?

Why would the dogs want Reynolds. Lewis was a revelation in the 6 last year and they signed young Jack Cogger as backup. I can see them releasing Foran but not signing Reynolds. As for the Broncos they get temhe best draw because it brings in the most money and that benefits every team

I'm no Broncos lover but when another club can pull crowds of 30K consistently every week, as well as strong TV audiences, then the NRL and broadcasters will favour them.

Tigers IMO get far more FTA coverage than their form warrants, but we also rate well.

It has nothing to do with favouritism and everything to do with viewership. It's the same type of deal that sees Cowboys play most of their home games on Saturday evening, because that suits the club and the broadcasters.

Thought the Knights had signed many more than that
Jnr tatola was already at Souths
Im sure baileys thrilled at Bennett coming

That's the official NRL transfer tracker. I left out the re-signings, must have missed the Souths one.

This is the issue (not saying you're doing it, incidentally - but the people who think the Tigers are somehow off the back of the pack recruitment-wise definitely are). We all know what the Tigers have done but generally only have a vague idea of what's going on elsewhere other than that we know there are players signing for other clubs. If you look at the actual transfers on a club-by-club basis it becomes clear that the Tigers are at least holding their own and in fact probably doing more than most.

But who likes facts nowadays?

Sorry 2041 but the only valid analysis of recruitment and retention is to compare our top 30 to every other teams top 30\. And that is not pretty reading. If (and it’s a huge if) numbers 29 and 30 are top shelf experienced first graders, maybe, just maybe, we can agree we are improving in this area where we have failed for a long, long time.

I wholeheartedly agree that the club has been a basket case off the field. However, it can't go from basket case to model performer overnight, ie from a roster that legitimately couldn't be expected to finish outside the bottom four to a contender. The only fair question to ask is "are we improving?" I think recruitment over the past few months is at least a positive sign.

Actually if we think about it rationally the biggest problem is pretty clearly production of our own talent not recruitment. Other than one club that pretty much everyone assumes cheats the cap, nobody gets good purely by signing other teams' established first graders. It's bad cap strategy and all it means is you'll always be paying fair-to-high value. You need a mixture of home-grown talent on cheap contracts - and at the moment we have very little of that.

The people who say "we don't need more development players, we need established first grade talent" are completely missing the point. We are actually doing ok to well at recruiting the latter, at least in recent times. But we need both.

Agreed. After getting sick of being a development club we over compensated imo and stopped altogether.

Yes I see your point Jirskyr, but it's still an unfair leg up that most of the other teams just never get. I mean 8 home games at night in the first 10 weeks when the weather is still hot, 7 day turn arounds, no travelling Come on! That's unprecedented! Split it up a bit, they can still get their precious tv ratings when they play there at other times throughout the year.

All it will do is give the Donkeys a huge advantage for the first 2 months of the comp, not to mention it will probably be coupled with their on field leg ups from the refs also, if last season is anything to go by. No doubt all geared to help Wayne get his parting Premiership - sorry, but it stinks!

Not sure Spud but I think he's contracted for 2019 so it's more likely to be 2020 if he sees out his contract. I'm only repeating what Peters said and personally don't think it's likely. In any event I've become a fan of Brooks. Wouldn't have said that a year ago but he certainly came on yhis year.

I’ve been saying this for ages and have copped heaps for my belief - the Broncos continue to get a leg up right across the NRL because it pays to have them succeed. They only made the top 8 in the last 2 seasons due to refereeing calls. Three games this last season and similar the year before. When was the last time the Broncos lost because of a dud decision? When was the last game you watched the Broncos and felt they didn’t get the 50/50 calls?
Now we have a footy feast at Suncorp and it’s an away game for the Broncos!!!! That’s unbelievable. How can that be argued as fair? Add to that the argument you mentioned regarding the first 2 months of the season and you’d think that’ll be enough to get them into September football.

Agreed. We all know the reasons why it happens but if the NRL is meant to be a fair competition then it shouldn't happen regardless. If it's all about money then why bother with play footy at all. The fact is the Broncs get an advantage and benefit from that year in year out. Seems like $ beats fair go in the NRL.
