Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Panthers have made the SMH this afternoon. Does anyone have a link not behind the paywall? Thanks.

The Penrith Panthers will reach out to the European cybercrime unit that assisted former Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold to find out the origins of a social media rumour threatening to derail their season.

The rumour, which questions the integrity of several of their star players and at least two staff members at the club, has been circulating among media for a month. The accusations relate to a former female staff member and alleged sexual relationships during her time at the club, with the Panthers planning on involving the police.

The Penrith Panthers have called in the experts to track down the origin of a rumour that has angered many at the club.

The rumour mill went into overdrive last week on social media, with the club on Tuesday made aware of a text message that had also begun circulating. Furious Panthers chief executive Brian Fletcher has sought legal advice on behalf of the club and plans to make contact with the same cybercrime investigation squad engaged by Seibold last month.

"Panthers have been made aware of false allegations circulating on social media alleging inappropriate relationships between a former staff member and current staff members," the club told the Herald.

"The allegations are untrue. Panthers have instructed their lawyers and are also retaining cyber investigators to trace the source and sharing of the allegations and to apply the full force of the law including reporting the matter to the police. No further comments will be made until the investigations have concluded."

As with the Seibold case, there are some at the Panthers who believe the origins of the rumour may be linked to someone with strong ties to the sport. Seibold handed the findings of his investigation to the NRL earlier this month, but the governing body wasn't provided enough evidence to take it further.

The European cybercrime unit, which uses ex-army professionals with expertise in the area, provided a list of names to police and the NRL after Seibold became the victim of a brutal social media attack against him and his family. The accusations against Seibold were of a different nature and he has vehemently denied them.

The Panthers, who were first made aware of the rumour last month, recently notified the NRL because one of the claims involved an alleged COVID breach. It is understood the NRL was satisfied that the club had not broken any of the code's strict biosecurity measures.

It's interesting, there's not much difference between Talau and Schuster. Both have similar builds and skillsets.

We immediately took it to turn Talau into a wing/centre whereas Manly have left Schuster in the halves. I don't see Schuster as a long term 5/8 though

Did the club ever play Talau at 5/8 in NSW Cup last year ? I only ever saw him in the centres. Sounds like he played a lot of 5/8 through the juniors, and also on the most recent junior Kangaroo tour of the UK with Madden as the half I believe.

Not having a go at you Fletch but I think the whole “he played all his juniors at 5/8” argument is a furphy. In juniors the big/strong/fast/good kid gets thrown the 6 jersey. As they get older the chaff gets separated.

Genuine question, I don’t know the answer, where did Talau play in Flegg? Remember Curtis Sironen was a 6. I don’t see 5/8 in Talau.

TT Played 5/8 in bulldogs junior teams

And centre in Jersey Flegg. Kinda proves my point

If I could have either TT or Schuster in my team as 5/8, I know who i’d be choosing. I have only seen Schuster play once but he looked faster, smarter, hungrier and more skillful than Tommy.

Telegraph are reporting that Tigers will look to sign Jordan Rapana if Melbourne won’t release JAC.

31 years old, he plays decent footy but would hope it’s a dirt cheap contract

I haven't seen anything from TT yet to get me interested

Talau and Madden in the halves; Aust Schoolboys v Lancashire, Dec 2018.

Handy backs on their outside; Bradman Best, Tes Niu, Stephen Crichton and Jason Saab.

“The Schoolboys were just that bit slicker with Tommy Talau, son of ex Saint Willie Talau, outstanding - involved in making four of his side's tries and creating well always looking dangerous with halfback partner and skipper Jock Madden. The backs were slick in attack and the large pack didn't budge against the hosts.”

Hopefully just like every year, linking us with every player. And we get none 😅 hah nah hopefully JAC

Many people on this forum are more interested in the process of chasing a player, then actually signing him!😕
