Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Penrith will have to shed players soon enough. Lots of rookies on smaller contracts who will be worth twice as much after this year or next year. They won’t be able to hold them all and we need to keep a lookout for the good ones, already nicked Blore off them.

Staines re-signed with penrith, there goes that

Thats ok - too much of a risk.

Throw the sink at Burton Pleeeease!!!!!

I’d say penrith will be letting go of Mansour soon anyway so Staines can fill that void

Yes please @ Burton. There’s no way he gets a run at penrith next year unless injuries

Penrith have talked about making him into a backrower, John Sutton type...but surely he can’t get a look in there either with Yeo (probably their next captain), Martin (probably most improved in the comp), Kikau (not going anywhere) + Capewell who they just signed, not to mention Leniu in the wings.

He surely sees his pathway is blocked from every angle

Staines resigning for Penrith is an absolute disaster for the Tigers with JAC still very much in the air.

The guys played two games. Other clubs were also chasing them who aren’t even in the market for JAC and he was asking for stupid money

Would’ve been nice to get him and it’s a shame we didn’t but let’s not freak out over it too much yet

Absolute disaster seems a bit strong. Is JAC very much up in the air though?

After next season we will have a lot of cash and we'll definitely land some big fish.

Missing out on signings is nothing new for us, especially with bugger all cash.

We desperately need speed. You can't have BJ, Momo, AD, Mbye in the same backline as there is just no long range threat. If it is true we have missed out on JAC 'and' Staines, that means finding legit speed from anywhere in time for 2021 is going to be difficult. 2021 is shaping up to be more of the same, unfortunately.

It was never going to be better than "more of the same" for next year - that is the reality of it.

2022 is a different kettle of fish however.

You can only hope. If we don't land some decent signings from 2022 the club is doomed.

I’m not one of those people that is 100 percent convinced JAC is going to Souths but they beat us for Latrell and Arrow so recent history is definitely on their side.

In regards to Staines, yes he only played two games but he’s a genuine fullback (As oppose to JAC) with massive upside and speed. I would also target Daine Laurie now because he’s fallen further down the pecking order

They will let guys like Masour go.

They are in a good position in that their vets have all been easy to move on the past couple of years. Maloney...RCG....Tomau...Mansour at some stage will move to give Staines the spot.

Out biggest prob is our vets are on huge money 'and' impossible to move.

It’s a massive long shot and I doubt it would ever happen but there’s talk that Josh McGuire might leave cowboys. Would take him any day of the week to play 13 for us still a quality player. Just a hope more than anything lol

100%
The broncos pack has gone backwards since he left

A no from me, a big grub and the Cowboys pack hasn’t really gone forwards with him in it either.

Yes, we already landed a big whale a couple of years ago and he’s done bugger all for us ?

You don’t win comps being nice guys. We need a grub somewhere in our forwards

However I agree he isn’t the same player he was 3-5 years ago

We could use a grub in our forward pack we need some niggle. He still carries them most weeks his stats are very good too.

BUGGER

Penrith have fended off rivals like Canterbury to re-sign gifted rookie winger Charlie Staines on a three-year deal.
The new deal means the 20-year-old outside back has committed to Panthers until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Staines’ signature is significant for Penrith given his standout form in his maiden NRL season.

If they make grand final just about all their guys will want upgrades unless they’re willing to earn less to stay there which might happen. Good chance they lose a few decent guys in the coming years though
