Because we have been burnt in the past... We just need to pick better and we have the staff now to do this unlike Cleary's recruitment.
need to get the first one over the line and if that means an extra 100k then so be it... Make it happen

It is not just that. Barret is "a player's coach". The Turbo bros love him and player's talk. A lot of coaches like Cleary and Barret treat each player differently.

Madge is one way...10000% and intense.

That works for Bellamy as you get grand finals and glory.

But not many people want that intensity. Madge will only attract a certain type of player...and that means we need to be patient. LL, AD want Madge's style, but not everyone does. Bennet gives blokes a week off...everyone is his best mate...

Do you know any of this to be true directly, or all hearsay? I'm not a fan of making grand statements about the personalities of people you've never met, nor even had second-hand information about.

Benji said it on 360.....I am presuming he knows what he is talking about.

"From a guy like Madge (Maguire) who only knows one way of, 'we're going to train as hard as we can, we're going to get as fit as we can and it doesn't matter what it takes to get to that, we're going to build mental toughness'... and I really enjoyed that," the New Zealand star added.
**"But I think what's happened now is the generation has changed where I think the kids are a little bit different these days where individually people need different types of training, or different types of understanding.
"Some people don't handle tough love, and understanding that is probably the biggest challenge that Madge is going to have for next year."**

Yeah well Benji, it seems to work for Belamy and the Storm.

I don’t get it aye what do players think is going to happen? It’s a tough sport you need to be tough to play it obviously the harder you train And practice the more rewards you get seems pretty obvious to me

Munster
Grant
Brandon Smith

No we don’t need to overpay. That’s what we have been doing and it totally unbalances the cap. We end up in the dilemma we are now with nearly $2M sitting idle and not playing. I hope we get JAC but if we don’t just move onto the next.

Remember when souffs signed Inglis ..?

No, so your point is lost on me.

Marquee signings attract more marquee signings and put bums on seats
Souths were a rabble before Inglis joined them .
We need a marquee signing to get out of the mediocrity rut that we continually find ourselves in ..
Addo Carr is easily worth 1 Mill ...
Time to up the ante !

No just no. That’s not how professional systems work.

So Doohey on $600k works ?
BJ on $650 works ?
Offering Tamou a pension works ?

No wonder we suck !

We are building nicely, given the cap disaster Voldemort left us in. No need to blow the cap again and leave us in the same position that the despicable Voldemort left us.

Going from 9th last 2 seasons to 11th this season you call that building nicely

Within the constraints of having $2M sitting on the sidelines, yes it is building nicely. Once those outrageous salaries are freed we can progress further. What we don’t need todo is make the same mistakes again and have an unbalanced cap.

It’s funny that many are make or break on JAC.

Scoring points wasn’t an issue this year, preventing them was our biggest issue which is managed through the forwards/halves and fullbacks.

JAC isn’t a fullback. I would prefer to spend the money on a rising fullback and half over JAC.

Next year we aren’t going to be a contender and 2022 at this stage we won’t either depending if we can snare some awesome signings which lets face it is doubtful.

Will it suck missing JAC if we do yeah but tbh I think we need the money spent on other positions more than on JAC.

Our lack of pace in the backline except for two players is a significant issue. It allows us to turn half chances into tries, improves our defence and it attracts spectators. So bringing in x factor players has multiple benefits for the team.

If we continue to miss out on quality players when they become available, do we question the coaches drawing power?
I like Madge, but I would be going big for Bennett. Just might attract the players we need.

If we can't sign anyone for 2022 over the next few months yeah you would have to question Madge and the clubs drawing power.

The exit of Marshall from 2021 is a significant change for the club in a POSITIVE direction. A season of Doueihi at 6 and Brooks at 7 (barring injuries) will bring the most stable, coachable and infuential halves pairing the club has had in more than a decade.

Sure, a signing or two in other key positions would help, but, no Marshall defensive inconsistency and predisposition for the "glory play", is a great start to a better year in 2021.

Benji's defence can be attributed to his serious shoulder injuries. I understand that but the better teams can accommodate him by having an Ellis type forward on the inside and a defensively strong centre on the right side. Our centre positioned near Benji was the opposite of what was required. Not a strong defender, lacking agility/pace and the forward should have been on the left next to Brooks.

I agree onthe main problem - defence but feel JAC would be a great boost to confidence and the mentality of the team.

Nothing wrong with paying big bucks for players as long as they’re good players. Giving someone like JAC extra money is fine he’s in the prime of his career and is an Australian level player, he will be good. Big difference compared to paying overs for someone like Packer

I’ m just guessing here, we’ve all bought a new bike/car and the first thing we want to know is what have I got here? The only way to find out the limitations of the players is to take them to their limit. Madge is just looking for keepers. Benji didn’t pass obviously. imo

I think the first one will need overs just to get the ball rolling... Not 3 or 4 like the past.
Just need to get that first major signing to add to our excellent junior recruitment and off we go..

Agree the first player needs overs to start the change, Harry Grant would be the player to pay overs to and hope others come
Think Brooks and Douhie can go ok at halves
Fullback if we dont get anyone put Nofo back at fb potentially

Seems its not just the young players that need special attention and lots of hugs. Looks more like Benji didnt get enough love and is having a shot at the guy who got rid of him.

Agree. The coach shouldn’t be shackled by the weight of a termidor tank.

The Mole: Mitchell Pearce return to Sydney Roosters gradually falling into place
By The Mole

The dominoes are slowly but surely falling into place for Mitchell Pearce to make a return to the Sydney Roosters in 2021.

Pearce played 11 seasons and more than 200 games at the Roosters before moving to the Knights in 2018. Forced out by Cooper Cronk's signing, the 31-year-old appeared destined to finish his career in Newcastle.

But Kyle Flanagan's indifferent year at the Roosters, coupled with the Knights' poor finish to the season, started the ball rolling for a shock game of halfback musical chairs.

The Roosters told Flanagan that he was free to leave and he has joined Canterbury.

In the meantime, the Knights have been linked with both English ace Gareth Widdop and Eels playmaker Mitchell Moses.

Add to that the possibility of Pearce being asked to take a pay cut at the Knights and the fact he misses his family in Sydney, and it's just a question of whether the Roosters can negotiate a release and still stay under the salary cap.

Stay tuned for further developments.
