Re Mansour if we get him cheap and Laurie comes a year early then I’m for it. The Panthers will pay some frieght for 21.

Based on recent moves it’s clear we won’t pay overs and would be confident Mansour wouldn’t be on overs. With our young kids he also would provide some great experience which we saw this year at the Panthers.

It’s very clear we lack a true winger as well which he eliminates a problem for us. It’s not the Fox but he isn’t terrible and would improve us.

That's just the wrong mindset. Mansour is not cheap as he will block the path of our juniors and we have many good young ones. The opportunity cost of Mansour is one or two of our good juniors who'll leave, as Stefano did at the Eels due to RCG and. Paulo being purchased. We are not a retirement home and we already have a slow winger who can't defend.

Para have done well with RCG and Paulo though.

The Eels can attract these players while we're building mainly from within. We don't need more players at the end of their careers blocking progression.

I mostly agree with you're saying but the Parra example isn't a good one.

That wouldn’t be a good decision from the club. It would fill our top 30 while we clearly have other positions that need filling. We’ve got tons of backline depth

Just means when they get their chance they have to take it. McIntyre example. Seyfarth didn’t but obviously has got another chance contract wise

Mansour is on a good wicket at Penrith, the only reason he's leaving is because he won't be playing first grade. He's not coming to us (or anyone else) to play reserve grade.

That wouldn’t be a good decision from the club. It would fill our top 30 while we clearly have other positions that need filling. We’ve got tons of backline depth

I’m more worried about the opposite to last year ie. a lopsided squad towards backs . If we get mansour and Laurie , where does Mbye , talau , kepoa , etc go . They’re all not on the smallest coin . Plus there’s no real depth in the back row . My only if , is , is Talau being groomed for an edge spot . If so , sign away

Yep.

For Parra losing Stefano is bad but they got Paulo and RCG in their mid 20s with plenty of footy left in them.

Mansour is already over 30 and only going to get worse. He will be Reynolds make 2 for us. We will lose youngsters who could play for us for the next 10 years, if we lose them by signing JAC or another elite player, so be it. Losing them for a washed up has been on big money would be incredibly insulting to the fans

Would rather play young fellas and get them some game time in 2021 as my opinion is that we are placed 5-8 at best on the ladder come end of next year.

That will put us in good stead for 2022 I reckon with young fellas like Simpkin, AJ, Talau, Stefano, Madden etc. all better from having experience with the big boys.

Therefore I would say no to Mansour (unless possible contingency on Laurie) and would rather look for a second rower or lock and blood the young fellas

Should be looking ahead to 2022 when we got cash to go marquee player or two and tried youngsters to back it up.

Yeah we need a fullback. Hes 32 now so prefer to look elsewhere. Mbye at fullback for a year automatically makes me think we will not get near the finals.


Laurie’s a REAL chance to be getting here early. Add our chat with Staggs next week about a contract, and the club looking for one more decent 2nd rower. Potentially could end up with Gebbie or Blore getting a bench spot, for utility value... that’s a strange position for us not needing loads of specific cover or four out and out forwards. Bolster defence + attack.

Not worried about Mbye/Doueihi as long as one of them can aim up there and be safe... ?

Ideally Our bench would be-
14. Utility - mbye
15. 2nd row -blore
16. Front row - Twal
17. Front row -stefano/mikaele.

We just need Laurie early.

Staggs is a career centre who definitely has the nous and skill set to rove midfield further down the track... we currently have Roberts for what could be one very good season. Once BJ goes next year and if either of Momi/Talau doesn’t pan out then we’d have Kei on standby too.

That’s proper succession planning.
