We have CINI and a coupe of good young guys could be promoted fromCC

Cini can't defend mate. if he can't do it in Flegg and CC then I don't see it happening in first grade.

Yeah we need a fullback. Hes 32 now so prefer to look elsewhere. Mbye at fullback for a year automatically makes me think we will not get near the finals.

Laurie’s a REAL chance to be getting here early. Add our chat with Staggs next week about a contract, and the club looking for one more decent 2nd rower. Potentially could end up with Gebbie or Blore getting a bench spot, for utility value... that’s a strange position for us not needing loads of specific cover or four out and out forwards. Bolster defence + attack.

Not worried about Mbye/Doueihi as long as one of them can aim up there and be safe... ?

What do you mean about staggs?

Ideally Our bench would be-
14. Utility - mbye
15. 2nd row -blore
16. Front row - Twal
17. Front row -stefano/mikaele.

We just need Laurie early.

Staggs is a career centre who definitely has the nous and skill set to rove midfield further down the track... we currently have Roberts for what could be one very good season. Once BJ goes next year and if either of Momi/Talau doesn’t pan out then we’d have Kei on standby too.

That’s proper succession planning.

1.Mbye Upgrade to Laurie
2.nofo (great clubman makes dirty meters)
3.Bj upgrade to talau
4.jimmy upgrade to staggs
5.Aj (Ik this kid has trouble with his hands but abit of training and I feel he could be a serious aerial threat in the future

Plus with the young guys like rizk and kei coming though we could be set for the next decade

We are in the box seat for 2022.I know we are all keen to do well next year, and i think we are on the right track.Just remember that people we buy now ,we could be stuck with for a couple of years. We have a lot of talent coming through and we may be able to upgrade at a reasonable price. Its time to be conserative with our money and cap.

I think we need to do well in 2021 to attract a player like Stagg in 2022.

We need to turn WT into a club players can see a premiership in next 5 years.

Money does not seem to be an issue after Packer and Reynolds leave.

Does anyone here know much about Tex Hoy? I thought he looked good in limited outings last year and seems to be stuck behind others at Newy.
Apparently he can goal kick, is 91kgs at 21 years of age, fullback primary position and is off contract at the end of '21.
Seems to tick a few boxes.

I remember watching a young teenager play fullback many years ago. He couldn't tackle and was made to look very bad. To his credit, he worked all off season and ended up with the rep of being the best defensive centre in RL despite being very fast. He played for Aust and NSW. His name was Andrew Ettinghausen. If Cini can work hard in the off season he can do well as a centre because he has a good step and is elusive.

I think we should remain positive, otherwise we’ll go crazy, we didn’t sign them to be duds, injuries or bludging will always happen, but trust out new recruitment that we vet that stuff.

TYE DIE-RDABEST-Exactly what im thinking.I like our forwards,we are considerably stronger. Our recruitment, training and coaching staff are all better. We have 12 players off contract after next year and 2 to 3mil to spend depending on who we retain,.At the moment 1,6,7,and outside backs are a concern.Laurie is as yet to be proven, but a good buy.If Jimmy and Leilua fire itcould be a good year the only concern is the halves and fullback.

I dont see any upside to Mansour, he's well past his best and all it will do is stagnate the development of our young guys vying for the other wing spot which we are well covered for. AJ, Talau & even Momo he's not needed not even to grant Laurie an early release dumb play if theres any truth to it imo.

You’re right, but we don’t have a lot of experience in the backs to show the kids what’s needed to make it?

I haven’t really followed Mansour but I believe he was injured this year, I think he is 30 so still has a year or 2 in him, he is/was a good player, must have been OK, he played in the GF didn’t he?

Still not what we need imo we have experience in the backs Joey & JTJ and Noffa all pretty experienced i would say. You have to give the young bucks a chance to shine somewhere or they will move onto somewhere that will give them a crack.

The only reason you would take him would be if it was part of the deal to get Laurie early and even than you probably be better to wait a year for Laurie than saddle your roster with a short slow winger who is at the back end of his career.

Only that his father was a Newcastle surfing star, and they are true blue Newie people.
Tex has had big wraps on him for years, I can’t see him moving from Newie.

to be fair he's had a whole year to work on it in training, away from the prying eyes of fans criticising him. no-one knows what he's like now. i imagine he's improved a fair bit since his rookie flegg season. h'es definitley a dark horse for 2021

No experience??!

Mbye, BJ, Roberts, Nof. That's more than enough highly paid players providing experience...

Mmm had heard about his old man. Be interesting to see if he gets much game time this year.

Also worth noting, I had a look at the Newcastle Roster and they have a kid named Dominic Young, listed at 6ft6 and nearly a buck ten, playing the centres and signed until 2023. Never heard of the bloke but that is a big centre.

I see that Alex Seyfarth has re-signed with the WT for the 2021 season.

Heard a rumour that Penrith might be after Packer.
