We have way too many holes and question marks.

We have holes and questions marks over the whole team don't we. Do we have any proven performers that are in form and established players in their position ? I reckon Tamou, Luciano and Nofo are the only three who fit into that category.


I agree with this, but IMO we have talent and potential all over the park and critically in key positions. Worse case scenario they all perform at plodder level but there is a very high ceiling.

Previously, we did have proven performers in these positions but they had been proven to be average standard with no upside.

There is only potential to be great, IMO not the potential to be worse.

For example

Cory Thompson v Mbye/Laurie
Mbye v JTJ
Benji v Douiehi
Aloiai v Joffa
Huth v Tamou

In all of those match ups, at worst the new will match the old

I think the biggest difference may not be recruits but improvement in BJ, Talau, Douhiei, Twal, Simpkin, Blore. They know what to expect hopefully they deliver.

I agree and to take my point further, we know for a fact (based on his previous performances) that BJ's 2020 form was at the bottom of his range. Is that because of age or other factors? If not age then there is ONLY potential to improve.

Talau worries me. Lots of hype and he has the physical assets but he has had a fair crack and has not looked likely to have an impact. He is only young and I hope he lifts.

There is something about Douiehi. You can see he is a good player but its almost like how/where does he fit? At FB, there were some good signs but he isnt fast and was poorly positioned many times. In an incredibly short period of less than one game, he looked good at 6. IMO his skills look like he is a 6 and based on Madge & Brooks interviews thats where he plays..

Simpkin. I havent seen him play but there are MANY people lining up to name him the next Harry Grant. Could be anything or nothing. I always think back to when the Australian Schoolboys Captain Michael Withers came into Balmain 1st grade, you could see he could play but, nothing. Actually Douiehi reminds me of Withers but Im hopeful that that is not the way he will end up.

Blore IMO is the least risky. He HAS shown good things that he can do on both sides of the ball but has incredibly weak cardio. He is young and fit so this can only improve do good reason to be confident about him.

Billy Walters won’t be out that long. Had a relative at the members function on Friday and he talked to billy who was hopeful he’ll be back around round 3.

Hopefully that means Brisbane more likely to take him then

Yeah for sure. I’m interested to see if the club will give him up. He’s our backup half and hooker especially if we run two hookers he’ll be one injury away from a spot. If it’s decent enough compensation you can’t say no, he’s not exactly a guy who looks like he will improve and become a good first grader

A very tentative term REASONABLE.Top 8 sides don;t have reasonable. Reasonable don;t win games.Top 8 sides only carry a couple of reasonable backs,not the whole backline.The augument was to upgrade where possible.I;M saying reasonable means we need an upgrade in the backs to the position of GOOD.

Madge has already said in a recent interview that he was keen on Smith and liked the way he played hooker and the game in general.

would you rather have a decent lock, or a third hooker on the books... I would offer him good money to play lock, if not be content to play against him.

Think overall signing these 3 would be good for us . Widdop if he cost no more than $300 a season , he can play 3-4 positions and he has what we need , a goal kicker .
Mansour brings the ball back well and again he won’t cost much with Penrith paying some .
Sironen , was a blugger when last here , but he had improved hits the line hard and is a good defender . These 3 would really top us off

Don't really like Mbye at hooker though. Ordinary defence and never engages the markers.

I think we should sign Mansour, Widdop & Sironen to finalise our 2021 squad. It looks like we won’t be getting Laurie so I would be putting Widdop at 1 & won’t cost too much either he also provides improved goal kicking & experience. He could also rotate with Douiehi if necessary. Mansour would be our best left winger for sure & Sironen would come in for Garner.

Not a bad squad & definitely capable of making the top eight with plenty of depth.

Packer won't see FG next season and we're not likely to sign Widdop or Mansour because they're both over it.
