Rankin used to be our goal kicker,

As if we needed a goal kicker playing "Taylor ball".

True but he was there more for his scintillating pace and raw power.

correct, imagine the team with him at the full speed, and Packer with his damaging decoys!

Question: would people rather Widdop (1y)/Noffa (3y) or Laurie (4y)/Mansour(2y). If I had to choose I would probably take Laurie/Mansour

Hard call. Both scenarios have upside and downside.
On Nofoaluma, I really want him to re-sign as I value loyalty but if I’m honest, as footballers I thing him and mansour are interchangeable

Certainly not sure of why, but Nofo hasn’t seemed to be showing loyalty atm?

But I do think wingers are the easiest position to change, quick blokes are coming through every day.

I’ve heard Nofoaluma is getting itchy feet about wanting to play semi final footy and also thinks his value has gone up. You could call that disloyal but you could also call it fair. I think we are heading towards finals footy but we regressed on field in 2020 and maybe he’s had enough. I hope he stays though.

I thought he would have re-signed by now. The longer it drags on the leas likely he stays imo.

I can’t remember the last time we’ve had contract negotiations drag out and a players gone to the media about it and we actually kept the player at the club

Plenty of good wingers available in 2022 and we’ve got some decent rookies at the club already. It would suck to lose him, but he’s not irreplaceable

Lets just remember his contract ends at the end of 2021. The 2021 season hasn't started yet and he doesn't have as big of a calibre as others and he is a winger. But he wants to see his worth which is understandable but i am confident due to many things he will stay.

Question for people like @Everything-WT or @cochise who seem to be close to the club. What’s the mood inside? Quietly confident with a plan or are they getting frustrated at not landing the major signings they want?

Are you not seeing the plan? Our development over the last 18 months is impressive. We dont need a major signing. Look at the Storm. They grow there stars

Same. I hope I’m wrong and he becomes a star, but I think people overlook his error rate and as a result he was heavily targeted in every game he played.

To inform those few that don't already know, Kepaoa has had corrective eye surgery for a problem when looking upwards, which almost certainly was his issue under the high ball. Plus it was really only the one game and he looked ready otherwise, so looking forward to him contributing and with any luck it will be from fullback.

Yeah I’m aware, I’m sceptical that it will magically fix his hands, but I hope it does. He wasn’t just targeted with bombs.

I think it will make a difference, he was getting double vision when looking up. Could explain a couple of the dropped passes from Benji as well as they were balls that were fairly high as well.

Why on earth would you take the field, as a winger, if you had double vision looking up.
It’s not as you don’t expect to get bombed.

Last time he was off contract it played out a similar way to this. Including suggestions that he was heading to Parra.

How so? He has a contract for 2021 so he's under no pressure to re-sign.

Completely hypothetically, maybe the club (or another club) has said we'll see how you go in the first 10 rounds and we'll assess your value then.

I'm not bothered by it at all. He either signs or he doesn't. I think it's clear we've learnt the lesson of paying overs and rushing in. Taking a considered, calculated approach is better for everyone.

@Everything-WT has his own source by following the players on instagram and who they follow etc.

Oh behave..... putting down a fellow supporter for being passionate, great fan you are champion lol

Haven’t seen you say anything valuable or interesting once, so don’t be all jealous when someone else does which contributes to this forum bc I for one appreciate the inside word and am sure many others also do

The elephant in the room is Nofa not signing yet

If he doesn't and pushes to leave early to Parra, we're in need of an experienced winger

If that happens I say yes to Mansour (200k / 2 years + club option ) but only if we get Laurie in 2021

I'm keen to see what Laurie has to offer. The sooner the better

For me, it's a big room because I can find at least 2 elephants in there.
One is your reference about Nofa, and for me (and maybe more crucial me thinks) is the lack of a consistent high-percentage goal kicker.

The amazing Pat Richards at training this week.... I’m sure he is passing on the technical aspects of kicking to Doueihi

He doesn't seem too shy to be part of the 2021 promotional stuff, nor the club in using him in that role. I think that seems to indicate he''ll be sticking around?

Yeah he was involved in the filming of some promos with fans last week.

People keep talking about " Taylorball " as though we never scored any points. In fact under Taylor we did no worse in try scoring than we have with other coaches since Sheens. The whole point of it was going back to basics to eliminate mistakes and not have to expend all our energy in defence which was atrocious. The team actually had no problem scoring tries under Taylor - its just that they couldn't defend.

2013 - Potter 70 tries in 24 games ranked 14th
2014 - Potter 73 tries in 24 games ranked 14th
2015 - Taylor 86 tries in 24 games ranked 7th
2016 - Taylor 88 tries in 24 games ranked 10th
2017 - Taylor 7 tries in 3 games
2017 - Webster 3 tries in 2 games
2017 - Cleary 60 tries in 19 games
2018 = Cleary 61 tries in 25 games ranked 16th
2019 - Maguire 83 tries in 24 games ranked 8th
2020 - Maguire 80 tries in 20 games ranked 7th

Very true,melbourne dont buy stars.

This is such a fallacy. Melbourne just recruit their stars at a younger age. The most recent batch to blossom, the likes of Tino, B Smith, Kamikamika, Grant, Munster, were all identified as superstars in the making long before their NRL debuts.
