Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’ve been seeing everyone shrug off the idea of Pearce coming here, not sure if it’s even a possibility but I genuinely think it would be such a fantastic signing

Think what you want of Pearce, but there’s no denying his leadership on the field and his premiership winning experience from a strong system with the Roosters and we all know he is a fanatic player

I think the most beneficial aspect of this would be the impact it would have on Brooks, for the first time actually being partnered with an experienced 7 who can steer the ship around and allow brooks to play 6 and play his natural game through his running game and short kicking game, similar to how Kurt Mann was flourishing being partnered with Pearce last year.

I think Brooks and Pearce would be a great combination, I wouldn’t be against the signing at all tbh

Pearce never wanted to play for this club when he was on the up or at his peak. Besides the fact i think he is ordinary and way overpaid for what he brings to a team i wouldn't want him out of spite. Another has been looking for an easy target for a final pay day. We aren't that club anymore.

Pearce has always been average, even in above average teams.
No thanks.blood a young lad.they might suck but they gain NRL experience and will only get better

I agree with giving the young players a go.Halves are a pricey commodity on the market , and very few live up to the price paid, such as JR,Taylor,Hunt,Pearce and another half dozen we could mention.Clubs seem reticent to try their young halves and prefer to buy outside. We have to percervere and not expect them to set the world on fire in the first couple of games.I doubt this would happen at the Tigers as we just move players around rather then use a specialist in a certain position, due to a lot of guys not really good elswhere.

I have to say this pack , this year , is the best one we’ve had in a very long time . The last one I remember being this good was the one with Tapau and gavet , when everyone was just realising how good they were . Too bad the backline was horrendous then .
This is the first year in a long while where the backs are as good as the forwards , or near abouts.
I have high hopes .we don’t have the names but I honestly think we have the talent . You win a few games ,have a good year and those no names become “marquee” players .
Harry Grant is a case in point of this .

Good halves are so rare nowadays.Pearce is better than I give him credit for,I just don’t think he would work well with our club.
I’d be disappointed if we went and splurged on a better than average halve before giving a young lad a go

Don’t worry mate, plenty of the young lads will have a go this year. Possibly one D. Laurie...

Unless we sign Mansour we probably won’t get him early I reckon 🙁

It is not worth signing Mansour to get Laurie early

Don’t sleep in Mbye man. His major flaw was catching bombs . And we have the one ex player in the club famous for uncatchable kicks.
If we arnt utilising this asset , I’d be shocked .

Michael Tannous looks promising, plus another couple, but as yet to young,.Then we have to keep them as all other clubs will swoop as we have done.Madden may be given a try,and i think Laurie would be great but until we get another FB that will be his position. We all hope Douiehi works out in the long run.

Tedesco, Simona, Richards etc weren’t exactly horrendous but agree our pack bashed other teams in 2014 and this current crop of forwards has a similar feel

I am bullish on Tannous, much more so than Madden. Seems to have an air of arrogance about his play which is what a good half needs.

Tedesco was a pup , Simona was fixing matches , and pat was just a little bit past it . It sux cause Simona could have been anything if his mind was right .

2014 was the year teddy made a bit of a name for himself, him and brooks combined pretty well. And fixing or not, Simona (still would be)was probably our best centre since lawrence was in his prime. He had extreme pace to burn

Richards well...he was more than capable of filling a hole but for the expense of koroibete was one of many recruitment / retention blunders

I like the look of Michael Tannous as well. Plays very direct with speed. Looks well balanced on his feet and has a great side step. Still young. Not sure what’s happening with reserve grade this year. He is named in the Balmain 2021 SG Ball team but was doing pre season with The NRL extended squad. I’m guessing 2022 at the earliest for NRL?

Madden is in the Top30 and a possibility for R1 depending on trial form. He will have to grab whatever opportunities in NRL with both hands as Tannous will be competing for a halves spot in 2022.

SG Ball age has increased to under 19’s this year. I’m guessing it’s because of how all the lower grades have been disrupted with COVID.

Development players for 2021 are Kelma Tuilagi, Reece Hoffmann, William Kei.
You’d imagine Tannous would get a development contract in 2022. Or if Walters moves to Brisbane, Hoffmann might get a 2021 Top 30 spot and Tannous a dev spot this year as we are thin in the halves. With 3 spots in the Top 30 still vacant anything could happen.

Blake Austin had a great year too- we were forming some really good combinations and then it all w went to crap.
