Nick Politis came out today saying rumours of Marshall signing with them were unfounded. Said they were happy with their halves options.
You would think that Benji would take a hint and retire as it looks like no club wants him.
I said this last year that he needs to retire and enjoy a big send off that the club would of gave him.. He will regret it and miss the send off he deserved.. Ego gets in his way
I don't think it's an ego thing. He wants to play because he wants to play, it's not about ego. He doesn't seem surprised about not having offers and has actually turned a few down. I think he's just looking for an opportunity that suits him. Also, he wanted to keep playing for us, and I don't think there was any ego in his final game for us when he made the game about Lawrence at the end. Benji was a flamboyant player, but he was also a great clubman for the Tigers. I think his desire to play on isn't an ego thing, it's just wanting to play footy while he can. If it was about money he'd have gone to England, if it was about ego he'd probably pursue a media career where I'm sure he'd be a big attraction, his playing on in the NRL, even accepting a squad role, is about the most humble thing he can do. Why does Benji cop it? And 'legacy' stuff is something fans and commentators dribble on about, I reckon Benji plays because he loves it.
Great post mate
Good points but benji comments end of this season showed there is still elements of ego there playing for the tigers.
If tigers are to ever change benji cannot be in the wests tigers squad I’m certain of that.
Given how much he takes over a team when his playing I’m not sure which club would suit him for the benefit of one season.
Sometimes you just have to know when it’s finished.
It’s a shame COVID is around I could see him really shining at Wembley/old Trafford and finishing on a big high in pommy land.
