Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

don't really see Crichton leaving Penrith but if we can hurt their cap by offering top dollar and forcing them to go close to our offer then that's still a win.

What becomes of laurie?

once again don't think Crichton leaves Penrith but if he comes here to play fullback Laurie will play 6. a lot of good judges (Gus included) believe that he's naturally better at 6 than he is at 1. if your next question is what comes of Doueihi it's likely he goes to the centre.

Pretty sure a few of us suggested we stick it to Ivan by offering crazy money to Crichton a while back when he baulked at the handshake deal.

As the article said severely doubt we sign Crichton. Wouldn’t even make much sense as we’d be paying Mbye big dollars still (unless he left) and we’ve got Laurie but nothing wrong with making Ivan pay a few extra bucks for him 😂

**Only option would be Laurie 5:8, Doueihi centre and Crichton fullback.**... which honestly would be pretty good lol

Where would that leave Leilua and Roberts? I know Roberts has only signed for a year, I guess they are expecting him to fail or maybe they’ll punt Leilua? Anyway it’s all just speculation from some newspaper nerd.

Schoolboy Cup Highlights

Hard not to get excited about this fella. Lightning acceleration, a good step and cut out pass.

The defence in that clip is atrocious bordering on comical.

...is what every boomer says when watching schoolboy highlights. If you only watched NRL highlights and never the game, the defence would look awful too.

I remember reading the same comments on Angus Crichton and Cam Murray's highlights - maybe they didn't just look good cause of bad defence when they ended up playing Origin 2 years out of school

I don’t see Joey being around next year even if he does okay, he’ll be 30 years old and we’ve got lots of young centres. Think they’ll prioritise the youth over him.

The option for Joey next year is in the clubs favour. You watch him have a career year in 21.

I like the idea of going hard for players even if we don't get them. It means other teams have to up their offers.

The war between Wests Tigers and Penrith has a new chapter with the joint venture club discussing making a major play to sign off-contract young gun Stephen Crichton for 2022

Ever since Panthers coach Ivan Cleary walked out on the final two years of his Tigers contract and doubled down by blowing kisses at a fan last season, relations between the two clubs have been about as cordial as the Australian and Indian cricket teams this summer.

The Crichton contract scenario has been on-going since the end of last year when the Panthers claimed coach Cleary had a handshake agreement for the Dally M centre to remain at the foot of the mountains.

The handshake hullabaloo has since been torpedoed meaning the Wests Tigers are currently crunching the numbers with a view to making Crichton a massive offer.

Here’s where it gets interesting. The Panthers have heard the Tigers intend to make Crichton an offer to play fullback in 2022.

Cha-ching. We all know the difference between fullback money and centre money.

Where does this leave Daine Laurie, the young gun Penrith fullback the Tigers have also signed for 2022?

The Tigers have discussed a plan where Laurie goes to five-eighth, Adam Doueihi goes into the centres and Crichton becomes fullback.

The reality is Panthers local junior Crichton is probably a snow flake’s chance in hell to want to leave his mates and his junior club out west.

Bennett won't coach Maroons in 2021

0:30

But what the Tigers offer will do is make the Panthers sharpen their pencil even more in relation to Crichton’s new contract.

The other silver lining may be the Panthers entertain releasing Laurie to join the Concord club this season.

However it shakes out, there’ll be no shortage of fireworks when the Tigers host Penrith at Leichhardt Oval in round 13 and then vice versa at Panthers Stadium in round 25.

The Panthers remain confident of retaining of NSW State of Origin squad trio Crichton, Isaah Yeo and Jarome Luai before the start of the season.

Now that's what I'm talking about
Kiss that Ivan

The real issue in this article is the Roosters pushing to make Suaali eligible for the NRL. Who would have thought? This is a big d to make for the NRL as it is potentially precedent setting.

4 years for Nofa lol.

Well, at least its comforting that in a dynamic and changing world, the Wests Tigers still do Wests Tigers things.

He has just turned 27 - he should be at his peak over the next 3 years - depending on the coin i don't see much downside.

Trouble is he's here for 5 years.

True - but he will only be 31 at the end of 2025 season. Probably still get a season or 2 contract at a reduced rate in the NRL or a nice pension in ESL. Some on here wanted to sign Mansour who is already 30.

He’ll be 32 in 2025. He’s turning 28 in May so in 2025 come May he’ll be 32. It’s old for a winger but it’s not too bad as long as he’s not on huge dollars at that point. Guess it’s the sacrifice to keep him around for his prime which is another 2-3 years hopefully.

He is turning 28 in November - not sure where you are getting May from.

He will still be 31 when the 2025 season is over.

If an exception is made for one player it also has the potential to backfire. Ironically, chooks told LM he wasn’t a FB option because he was too big. This kid is already the same size as Daniel Tupou and at just 17. He may be a winger but just doesn’t know it yet?

If that’s a 4 year deal with the 4th not as a club option, we’re idiots.

Club loyalty is one thing taking the team to a top 4 finish is another . With the Chairman getting involved tells me the club has learnt nothing , would any top 4 club sign Nofo to a 4 yr deal someone that has no idea how to defend … my prediction he will be playing Reggie’s in 2022 .

Cry me a river

There will be a lot of that this season

Tears of joy

I can't fatham how we got suckered in to keeping Nofo for another 4 seasons after his 28th birthday. For much of his contract at the Tigers, despite his heart, he was already overpaid and people thought he didn't deserve what he was getting.

Now we sign him for another 4 years (plus the 1 he already has, so 5 years). 2 Further years to his 30th birthday was the right deal, 3 was being generous, and 4 years Nofo + manager have taken us for a ride. Be prepared to have another 500-600k sitting in reserve grade in 3 years time, or be prepared to have a youngstar (say Fitzgibbon) have their path blocked by this decision.

The salary cap implications this has later on is significant and people who think this is a good re-signing can't think long term. Give me AJ & Talau on the wing and put that extra 600k to geting Harry Grant.

What 600K? - Non Fact!

Just like the rest of your post it is all i your mind.

Noffo playing reserve grade in 3 years time - Non Fact!

Noffo blocking a youngsters path - say Fitzgibbon - Non Fact!

Has Fitzgibbon even been signed? Isn't he on a Trial and train?

Harry Grant is a thing of the past - look forward, not backward.

I see that Jarred Mullen has signed with the Sunshine Coast as a starting point for a NRL comeback.

Should we consider him a a cheap backup half option.

Has a nose for finding the line

James hooper article old news told u a month ago he was coming to WT....

Some facts wrong surprise fullback postion has already been offered by our . coach. Our offer so far better than penrith dogs or roosters. We are very likely to have confirmation next week.

Three reasons why we get his signature better money fullback offer and our location .

You said a month ago he was signing in 3 days

Would definitely love to get him

Hope you are right

Your source may be good but let's face it only Crichton really knows what he's doing

So confirmation next week?

Already signed Just waiting til next week to announce?

Or your a Panthers supporter just stirring the forum?

Time will tell but if he stays at Panthers after everything youve stated you lose all credibility

Reliable poster on the bulldogs forum has said momirovski has signed/ or is close to signing with bulldogs. Anyone here heard anything else?

Trust me, he’s not going anywhere

I hope you are right. Easily one of our best players.

I believe he will play plenty of 1st grade this year. And agree. I don’t get why he has so many critics

It's not that he has critics. A lot of us see a slow technically very good centre. People on here overstate how good he is. I want him to stay but surely he won't be the first picked option in the centres or if he is given a go there I fully expect Roberts and BJ or even Talau to get his spot at some point.

He is an average player. I've seen people state Madge has guaranteed him a spot and that he is potentially the captain. This is guy who hasn't at any point proven he is anything more than a fringe first grader.

I reckon as a squad member he is a great option or as a moneyball player where you stack other positions in the team he is a great option. We have BJ, Roberts and Talau all vying for a centre spot. I wouldn't pick Momo ahead of any of them assuming those guys are available.

He's faster than Dooey, scores at a better rate than any of our other centre candidates, kicks goals, tackles well and has played in two premiership winning teams. Wish we had a few more average players like him.

To me if BJ & Roberts are anywhere near there best, they will be the centres. They have a far higher ceiling than Momo, who I also agree is just an average first grader. Momo should also never be considered for the wing, as he is far too slow (Didn't Klemmer run him down vs the Knights at Campbelltown?).

Keyword “if”

Momo has already proven he has what it takes to be a strike centre for us as evident in 2019. BJ was terrible last year and while I hold high hopes for roberts, hasn’t proven anything just yet

Madge DOES rate him. Hence why he extended him for a further 2 years.

He is not and never will be a strike centre.

You’re right. A strike centre would have a strike rate of 14 tries in 19 games or something like that.
