If that’s a 4 year deal with the 4th not as a club option, we’re idiots.
Club loyalty is one thing taking the team to a top 4 finish is another . With the Chairman getting involved tells me the club has learnt nothing , would any top 4 club sign Nofo to a 4 yr deal someone that has no idea how to defend … my prediction he will be playing Reggie’s in 2022 .
Cry me a river
There will be a lot of that this season
Tears of joy
I can't fatham how we got suckered in to keeping Nofo for another 4 seasons after his 28th birthday. For much of his contract at the Tigers, despite his heart, he was already overpaid and people thought he didn't deserve what he was getting.
Now we sign him for another 4 years (plus the 1 he already has, so 5 years). 2 Further years to his 30th birthday was the right deal, 3 was being generous, and 4 years Nofo + manager have taken us for a ride. Be prepared to have another 500-600k sitting in reserve grade in 3 years time, or be prepared to have a youngstar (say Fitzgibbon) have their path blocked by this decision.
The salary cap implications this has later on is significant and people who think this is a good re-signing can't think long term. Give me AJ & Talau on the wing and put that extra 600k to geting Harry Grant.
Well don't think the $600k a season is correct, elite wingers usually demand around $450k/$500k a season.
He would also most likely qualify for most of the term relating to new contract of $200k shared salary relief for long term players and one club players.
So lets split the difference and estimate he is on $475k.
Now lets compare that to some current players we have
Mybe - $950k / Packer $700k / Doeughi $600k
Do you think being the best player in 2020 that the new deal in fair in comparison to $ those listed above? (I do)
I agree maybe the extended terms if 4 years is longer than required as most players recently have signed 2 or 3 year deals, but looks like they made an exception for Nofo because he is a 1 club player, also think that's reasonable, also considering it's his last contract.
last year i believe is a club option, in the meantime he still has to compete against the younger guys coming through to maintain his position and $ that's the flip side over a longer period of time.
I think if you also asked the majority of forum members we prefer that we retain our 1 club loyal players just like us supporters that remain loyal during a finals drought.
I don't mind Lee getting involved on a rare occasions like this as long as it yields results and does not become a habit.
Really up to Pascoe/Hartigan/Madge to ensure the salary and talent lines up against results.
